Chapter 295: The Mysterious Yin Pill
Chapter 295: The Mysterious Yin Pill
On the vast expanse of the ocean...
As more and more sea beasts were dealt with by the joint efforts of the Song family cultivators, the battle gradually subsided. Aside from a few stragglers still putting up a desperate resistance, the rest of the sea beasts had either perished or fled.
A sense of relief spread among the numerous cultivators as they began to scour the area, cleaning up the battlefield.
Suddenly, a loud splash broke the silence. Dozens of headless sea beasts emerged from the water, their blood staining the surrounding waters a crimson red.
Just as everyone was filled with bewilderment, Lu Chen leaped out of the water, unscathed. He placed a Water-Walking Bead into his storage bag.
"I sensed that quite a few sea beasts were trying to sneak in from the depths, so I took care of them," Lu Chen said casually, inventing a reason for his absence.
"However, the situation was urgent, and to be safe, I may have used a bit too much force. All their heads were destroyed by my artifact," he added.
Lu Chen glanced at the elegant cultivator, Song Yu, who was approaching, and offered an explanation.
"Senior Lu, thank goodness you were here. We would have lost countless Empty Spirit Fish if not for your presence," Song Yu said hastily.
"How are the casualties among the Song family cultivators after this sea beast assault?" Lu Chen asked.
"The overall situation is manageable. With this number of sea beasts attacking, we have nearly twenty injured, five of them severely. They will need proper treatment and rest," Song Yu replied.
"Additionally, a cultivator at the Qi Refining Fifth Layer accidentally fell. He was surrounded by over ten second-rate sea beasts, one of which suddenly became extremely ferocious, disregarding its own safety and attacking frantically. I couldn't rescue him in time, which led to that family member's sacrifice," Song Yu continued, his head lowered in guilt.
At the same time, he felt incredibly fortunate.
Normally, a sudden assault by hundreds of sea beasts would result in casualties ten times worse, along with a significant loss of Empty Spirit Fish.
It was only because of Lu Chen, a Foundation Establishment cultivator, that they were able to repeatedly thwart the sea beasts' attacks and easily resolve the intrusion.
Thinking of this, Song Yu and the other Song family cultivators looked at Lu Chen with gratitude in their eyes.
"Take good care of the injured cultivators, and make sure the fallen Song family member's family is well taken care of," Lu Chen instructed.
"Also, these demon beast corpses should be dealt with properly. We might be able to sell them for some spirit stones," he added.
"Yes, Senior Lu! I'll handle all the matters as soon as possible," Song Yu assured him.
"I'll also instruct someone to deal with the demon beasts immediately and sell them for spirit stones, which we can then use to make our contribution to you," he continued, understanding Lu Chen's subtle hint.
There were over two hundred demon beast corpses left, and it wouldn't be appropriate to hand over all the spirit stones to Lu Chen. However, they would definitely not shortchange him his due share.
"Good, then I'm relieved," Lu Chen nodded in satisfaction. He had contributed significantly to resolving the sea beast intrusion, and it wouldn't be like him to simply let the demon beast corpses go without any gain.
He was not greedy, but he also wouldn't allow himself to suffer losses.
After inspecting the surrounding waters to ensure no sea beasts remained, Lu Chen returned to his courtyard home.
Although the spirit herb field in the courtyard didn't have an advanced array like the Thousand Illusions Misty Smoke Array protecting it, Lu Chen had set up a second-rate array, which was considered a decent defensive measure on Empty Spirit Island.
Without resting, he opened the array and made his way to the central area of the spirit field.
The Hundred-Eyed Bizarre Wood and the remaining two Ghost-Faced Stone Mushrooms were isolated in their own section, separated from the other normal spirit plants.
Wherever Lu Chen went, the pupils followed, never leaving him out of their sight.
Under the gaze of these peculiar eyes, Lu Chen felt a sense of disorientation creeping into his mind.
A cool sensation emanated from the Immaculate Jade around his neck, instantly clearing his thoughts.
"You see me wherever I go. Be careful, or I'll report you for harassment!" Lu Chen chastised, reaching into his storage bag and pulling out dozens of fresh sea beast eyes, which he then tossed at the ancient tree.
"Freshly plucked, not the best in terms of grade, but exotic nonetheless."
Dozens of nearly transparent, slender tentacles shot out from the pupils, impaling the sea beast eyes and drawing them towards the eerie pupils to be ravenously devoured.
"A fourth-grade Hundred-Eyed Bizarre Wood, the first fourth-grade spirit plant about to mature. I wonder what kind of light group reward it will produce."
Lu Chen's anticipation grew as he watched the Bizarre Wood feast on the fresh sea beast eyes.
He turned his head to glance at the two remaining Ghost-Faced Stone Mushrooms a short distance away.
Focusing his mental energy, he noticed that the translucent progress bar beneath one of the mushrooms had filled up.
"Another one has fully matured."
Lu Chen gave the mushroom a quick inspection, taking note of the eerie visage formed by the intricate patterns on its cap, before carefully plucking it from the ground.
A thought flashed through his mind.
Ghost-Faced Stone Mushroom, a third-grade spirit plant nourished by the resentment of yin souls. It can assist in the cultivation of certain unorthodox techniques, accelerating their mastery.
He stored this high-quality mushroom in his storage bag and turned his full attention to the light group that had quietly appeared on the ground.
The light group flickered, exuding a faintly chilly aura.
With a gentle touch, the white light group transformed into countless specks of light, forming a vague, eerie face that instantly vanished into Lu Chen's body.
A thought emerged in his mind, and a round pill appeared in Lu Chen's hand.
The size of a pigeon egg, the pill was a deep shade of forest green, emanating a pure chilly aura. Its intricate pill marks seemed to writhe constantly.
Lu Chen focused his mental energy on the pill, instantly gaining a detailed understanding of it.
Mysterious Yin Pill, a fourth-grade pill refined from numerous extremely yin materials, containing a large amount of pure yin energy. It is a great tonic for many yin beasts and evil spirits. When consumed by ghost cultivators practicing corresponding techniques, it can greatly enhance their spiritual power.
"A fourth-grade pill, but it's a bit unorthodox and not suitable for my current path."
Lu Chen thought to himself. He didn't keep any yin beasts, and his spiritual power was of a pure and peaceful nature. Consuming this fourth-grade Mysterious Yin Pill might have an adverse effect.
"However, this pill would be a top-grade treasure for certain evil cultivators. I should find an opportunity to trade it for something else that suits me better."
His thoughts drifted to the remaining Ghost-Faced Stone Mushroom as he considered his options.
Of the five dormant mushrooms he had initially dug up from the secret realm, four had now matured.
Perhaps due to the majority of their growth being in an advanced state, coupled with the rarity of the Ghost-Faced Stone Mushroom species, the four white light groups had produced excellent rewards.
Two of the mushrooms had yielded the fourth-grade artifact Soul Luring Lantern, one had produced the fourth-grade artifact Thousand Wraith Eerie Mask, and the last one had just rewarded him with the fourth-grade Mysterious Yin Pill.
The only regret was that the spirit plants from the underworld tended to produce light group rewards with strong underworld attributes. Aside from the Thousand Wraith Eerie Mask, both the Soul Luring Lantern and the Mysterious Yin Pill weren't suitable for his personal use.
