Chapter 294: The Labyrinth
Chapter 294: The Labyrinth
“This should be the place.”
Lonely as Snow carefully examined the mission map, repeatedly comparing it with the concealed cavern before him.
Flying Witch eagerly said:
“Alright, let’s go in.”
“Wait—”
Lonely as Snow interrupted in astonishment, first looking at Flying Witch in confusion.
“We’ve got three spellcasters on the team. Shouldn’t we make some preparations first?”
Flying Witch nonchalantly replied, “I’m already level six. I’ll just carry you guys through. Besides, I’m a sorcerer, I don’t have that many spells.”
Lonely as Snow then turned to the African Duo.
Emperor scratched his head awkwardly and said, “Don’t look at me. I’m only level two. I barely have any spell slots and don’t know any buffs. I already used up my spells outside, so inside the labyrinth, I’d just be standing around.”
“Let me try.”
Kyuri stepped forward, touching Lonely as Snow’s armor, generating a barely noticeable magical fluctuation.
Instantly, Lonely as Snow’s armor began to glow faintly.
Cantrip 【Light Spell】
“…”
Lonely as Snow was silent for a moment, inwardly sighing, his bitterness growing.
His mind was filled with the reckless sorcerer and utterly useless apprentice wizards. What kind of absurd teammates were these?
Lonely as Snow took a deep breath, mustering his courage as he stepped into the dark cavern.
The three unreliable spellcasters followed close behind.
This place was once used by underground merchants to store smuggled goods. After an ancient mechanism was triggered, the ground collapsed, revealing a labyrinth sealed for centuries.
Staring at the winding maze passages, Lonely as Snow whispered:
“Let’s sneak in quietly. Try not to make too much noise…”
“It’s best if we can avoid combat and complete the mission directly.”
“Got it.”
Flying Witch responded.
However, before Lonely as Snow could finish, Emperor’s attention was caught by several shimmering silver coins scattered on the ground.
“There’s money on the ground!”
“These silver coins must belong to the underground merchant. If we follow them, we’ll complete the mission.”
“Hehe, and maybe make a little profit too.”
Emperor happily picked up the coins, moving deeper into the passage.
“Wait—don’t go that way!”
Lonely as Snow called out urgently.
But Emperor, lost in the dream of clearing his debts, ignored him, happily collecting coins as he ventured further into the maze.
In the end, Lonely as Snow could only shake his head helplessly and follow.
“Guess I’ll have to run dungeons to make money.”
“One hundred and three coins.”
“One hundred and four coins.”
“One hundred and five—huh?”
“What’s this…”
Emperor suddenly smelled a foul stench. A viscous liquid dripped onto his head, jolting him out of his daydream—it was the saliva of some unknown beast.
His legs trembled uncontrollably as he pale-facedly looked up.
A towering, muscular minotaur holding a massive axe loomed over him, its eyes filled with rage and brutality.
Emperor let out a terrified yelp, stumbling over his words.
“Oh crap! M-monster!”
“Help me!”
“ROAR—”
The minotaur bellowed, lifting its colossal axe high. The bloodstained weapon descended with a nauseating stench.
“Clang—”
The sound of metal clashing rang out.
At the last moment, Lonely as Snow raised his greatshield, blocking the lethal blow just in time.
Yet even with the shield’s protection, the minotaur’s immense strength left his hands numb from the impact.
“What are you standing there for? Run!”
Seeing Emperor frozen in fear, Lonely as Snow shouted.
Emperor finally snapped out of it, bolting to the rear, wishing he had a couple more legs.
But the minotaur had already set its sights on Emperor. Dust flew as its massive hooves scraped the ground, and it charged at him with furious determination.
Seeing his clueless teammate about to get trampled, Lonely as Snow had no choice but to step in again.
Raising his shield, he channeled its power, causing it to glow.
【Divine Challenge: Guardian’s Provocation】
Lonely as Snow issued a challenge, forcing the minotaur to engage him instead.
An invisible chain seemed to tether the minotaur, preventing it from attacking the nearby, trembling Emperor lying on the ground.
“Phew, that was close!”
Emperor patted his chest, still shaken.
Enraged that its target slipped away, the minotaur roared furiously.
It turned to face the heavily armored Lonely as Snow, its hooves scraping the ground again, preparing to charge and crush this meddlesome human.
“Moo—”
The minotaur, consumed by rage, charged like a runaway freight train.
Seeing the dire situation, Lonely as Snow shouted for help:
“Flying Witch, help me!”
“On it!”
Flying Witch, who had been waiting, waved her hand, conjuring a massive fireball.
Fortunately for Lonely as Snow, there were no mishaps this time.
“Boom!”
The fiery projectile struck the charging minotaur’s back, exploding on impact. Its hide scorched black, and its fur ignited into flames.
“Awoo—”
The minotaur’s charge halted as it cried out in pain, flailing to extinguish the fire.
“I am the pure-hearted war god!”
“So—Minotaur, die!”
Seizing the moment, Lonely as Snow dashed forward, smashing the greatshield into the minotaur’s head.
“Bang!”
Caught off guard, the minotaur stumbled, disoriented.
Surrounded and under relentless attacks, the beast lost its sanity, lashing out aimlessly in fury.
Emperor and Kyuri also tried to contribute but lacked proficiency in spellcasting.
“Ignis! (Fire Arrow)”
Two small flames shot forth but missed entirely.
For a moment, an awkward silence hung in the air, broken only by the minotaur’s roars.
Lonely as Snow: “…”
Flying Witch: “…”
Ultimately, Flying Witch stepped in to end it.
She puffed her cheeks, gathering power for a few seconds, then unleashed a torrent of fiery blasts, engulfing the minotaur.
【Agannazar’s Scorcher】
The minotaur, engulfed in flames, let out its final wails before collapsing. The maze now smelled faintly of roasted beef.
“See, it’s always up to me.”
Flying Witch clapped her hands confidently, turning to Lonely as Snow with a bright grin.
“What do you think, Lonely as Snow—huh?”
“Baa~”
Lonely as Snow was gone.
In his place stood a weary-looking sheep, bleating plaintively.
Flying Witch sheepishly stuck out her tongue.
“Oops, my bad. Don’t worry, the effect will wear off in two minutes.”
“Baa…”
