Chapter 294: Information
Chapter 294: Information
Ten minutes later, Wu Bei wiped the sweat from his brow, removed his hand from his neck, and sighed in relief. "It's done."
He turned back and said, "Little Brother Chen, I'm going to enter the Boundary Vessel to find some information. I'll send some of it to your Interface Nexus, so you can review it. If you discover anything, you can also conduct an active search. I'll cooperate with your efforts."
Little Brother Chen agreed, "Okay." Wu Bei removed his damp outerwear, wiped his face and neck with a handkerchief, and walked into the Resonance Nest through its opening.
Chen Chuan had been wondering if the small opening could accommodate Wu Bei, but as Wu Bei approached, the opening naturally expanded outward, seemingly adapting to its owner's needs.
The previous field domain adjustments seemed to have been effective.
Once inside, Wu Bei sat down and removed a vine from above, inserting it into an implant slot at the back of his head. After a while, more vines, as if controlled by someone, began to wrap around his body.
The Resonance Nest, which had been flickering with faint light, became brighter, and the surrounding vines, like tangled wires, also glowed, casting shadows on the ground.
Chen Chuan observed this for a while and felt a constant stream of information being transmitted through the Interface Nexus.
Inside the Resonance Nest, Wu Bei accessed the stored information from You Xing's past year. The most frequent records were of You Xing accepting requests from clients on a platform, going on assassination missions, and recording the deaths of his targets.
You Xing seemed to enjoy watching the deaths of his targets and had recorded the entire scene, including his own emotions, leaving behind a clear and complete record of each target's death, allowing Chen Chuan to experience the process firsthand.)
From the records, it was clear that You Xing had a connection to several companies and a mysterious organization, repeatedly mentioning the Black Gate. However, each time it was mentioned, a sense of fear and desire to delve deeper was felt, but he dared not fully explore it.
Chen Chuan suspected that there might be something more important hidden within, possibly related to the ghost story. He decided to delve into the information about the Black Gate.
As he did so, the surrounding scene suddenly changed.
He found himself in a brightly lit hall with fluorescent lights, facing a platform with people in black kneeling before it, and an unseen, glowing object in front.
The object seemed to emit its own light, but the light also seemed to converge upon it.
Just then, he noticed his Second Self starting to slightly dematerialize, and his Snow Lady Sword began to vibrate in his hand. He focused his gaze on the light source, and as he tried to see more clearly, the surrounding light dimmed, and the scene returned to the previous room.
Wu Bei removed the vines from the back of his head, rubbed his forehead, and seemed to have a headache.
He said, "This is my first time using the Resonance Nest. I'm not quite adapted to it yet. The resonance intensity rose too quickly, exceeding my Domain Boundary. Fortunately, all the remaining information has been recorded. I'll send you the information I just accessed."
Chen Chuan looked at him, sensing that Wu Bei was unaware of what he had just experienced. At that moment, his Interface Nexus received some textual information.
He glanced at it and saw that it contained not only You Xing's assassination records but also his business dealings with several companies. These companies often hired him for dirty work and provided him with a legal identity, which explained the source of the Resonance Nest.
According to the records, over the past year, You Xing had relied on the ghost story and his advanced domain technology to achieve success in every mission until this last one.
However, there were no clues about the current situation.
Chen Chuan thought that You Xing had the ability to destroy the Interface Nexus but chose not to. Perhaps he wanted Chen Chuan to follow the clues and uncover the truth, whether it meant dragging the client down with him or ultimately being killed by the client. Either way, You Xing's dying wish would be fulfilled.
But the prerequisite was finding the clues.
If they weren't in the Interface Nexus or the Resonance Nest, there might still be information he could access.
Chen Chuan asked, "Wu Bei, did You Xing's Interface Nexus have any record of sending messages to a specific location?"
Wu Bei replied, "There is one, but the recipient's information has been erased, so I don't know who it was sent to."
Chen Chuan was even more certain now. He asked, "Wu Bei, can you help me block the information about my current location?"
Wu Bei said, "No problem."
Chen Chuan reinserted the vine into the back of his head and waited for a while. "It's ready," he said.
Using the Interface Nexus, Chen Chuan contacted the Wu Yi Academy's platform and found an anonymous message in the public platform's information box, sent at the moment he killed Shadow Walker.
It was indeed from Shadow Walker, who had sent the information directly to Chen Chuan before his death. However, Chen Chuan had switched to a new Boundary Vessel upon leaving, and Shadow Walker noticed this. Fearing that Chen Chuan might not receive the message, he chose to send it to the external information receiving platform of the Wu Yi Academy.
Of course, Shadow Walker's intentions were not altruistic. He merely wanted to witness Chen Chuan's encounter with his employer.
Chen Chuan intended to view the message's content immediately, but he couldn't open it. After consulting Wu Bei, he learned that the message utilized a type of directional frequency technology, and he would need to return to the Wu Yi Academy, preferably using the original Boundary Vessel, to access it.
"In that case, we'll have to head back first," Chen Chuan said. "We can take the useful items with us."
Wu Bei surveyed the surroundings and remarked, "This place is quite good—hidden and secure."
Chen Chuan agreed regarding the concealment aspect. Without the Boundary Vessel's display, finding this location would have been challenging.
However, the safety aspect was less certain. Although Chen Chuan hadn't encountered any gang members upon his arrival, he assumed they had been eliminated by the Cleaner. These individuals wouldn't simply vanish; without a deterrent, they were likely to reappear soon. Furthermore, the guest rooms upstairs indicated that this place had hosted visitors, making it unsafe to linger.
"Wu, you should head back with your belongings first," Chen Chuan suggested. "I'll wait here. If Lao Qi is available, ask him to join us as well. We can drive the cars away together and store the items in your warehouse."
Wu Bei glanced around and agreed, "No problem! I'll take care of it. I'll also pay for the Resonance Nest and the high-energy nutrient canisters. Transactions of this size on the account platform are easily monitored, and there's a transaction tax. It's better to use cash, but I don't have enough on hand. I'll gather the money and pay you later."
Wu Bei had been consistently providing assistance, and in the future, Chen Chuan would likely require his help again. Hiring a high-level Resonator wasn't cheap, so it made sense to compensate him.
However, Wu Bei wasn't concerned about money. He wanted to find a way to repay Chen Chuan, and the Resonance Nest was a perfect opportunity.
Wu Bei didn't hesitate. He was happy to say, "Deal! Let's do it. I'll take care of it." He waved at Chen Chuan and started driving down the hill, slowly turning on the car lights.
Chen Chuan watched as Wu Bei successfully navigated the road below and then turned back to continue organizing the items. As he entered, he noticed the long stick lying on the ground.
He walked over and picked it up, feeling a strange resistance from the object. He immediately realized it was a Transformed Weapon.
Such weapons were extremely rare, explaining why repeated strikes had failed to break it.
Chen Chuan couldn't help but think that he should have a display room dedicated to such weapons.
He took the long stick with him and returned to the third floor. After confirming that the Gader Car could be driven, he contacted Ni Xixian and reported the two vehicles he had seized to the Preservation Zone Patrol Bureau. They promptly issued him a temporary pass.
According to the seizure regulations, retaining the vehicles required paying a fee to the Processing Bureau and the relevant management departments, along with some paperwork. The amount wasn't substantial, and it was a way for the Processing Bureau to reward those who worked for them.
Chen Chuan decided to keep the cars, as he currently traveled by tram, which wasn't always convenient. Aside from the Silver Lightning, the Gader Car had been modified and equipped with armor plates, making it inconspicuous, well-protected, and suitable for transporting items.
Chen Chuan placed the remaining items to be transported in the car's backseat and the first-floor hall, leaving Shadow Walker's body in the pit in the middle of the room. He fetched a shovel and buried it.
