Chapter 294: Elite Cavalry
Chapter 294: Elite Cavalry
September 25, 2017
After conquering the large Horse Bandit Camp, Lu Haikong initially had no plans to return to his mountain camp so soon.
After all, there were still some resource points that 'Heaven's Eye' couldn't detect, similar to the ones found in places like Wolf Valley.
Lu Haikong had intended to train at these spots, but news from the mountain camp reached him, stating that someone was planning to attack their camp. Without hesitation, he dropped everything and rushed back to the mountain camp.
As Lu Haikong arrived at the camp, a highly skilled cavalry unit of about a hundred riders appeared outside its walls.
The number of cavalry wasn't particularly large, but their equipment was top-notch. The armor they wore appeared exquisite, lightweight, and sturdy, clearly not of ordinary quality. It was Elite-level gear.
Each of the hundred cavalry members was equipped with five Elite-level items: armor, helmets, long spears, longbows, and specially designed horse armor. One could imagine the wealth of such a cavalry unit.
Even more impressive was their leader, whose entire ensemble was of Elite-level quality. This cavalry unit, exuding an aura of opulence, halted outside the mountain camp's walls.
They would have liked to charge into Lu Haikong's camp, but they were spotted five li away and by the time they reached the walls, the camp was already prepared.
Below the walls, dozens of wooden barriers were set up, and the Second Battalion warriors had taken their positions on top. Simultaneously, as the cavalry arrived, the Elite Guard, led by Pan Feng, was ready at the gates.
Seeing the camp's thorough preparations, the cavalry dismounted and their leader, with an air of arrogance, surveyed the scene without a hint of concern about the defenses or the encirclement.
"Where is your Chieftain? Tell him to come out and speak with me!"
The commanding tone in his voice was clear. He didn't seem to regard Lu Haikong highly, treating him as just the leader of a minor mountain bandit camp.
This condescending attitude instantly infuriated everyone, especially the Second Battalion warriors. To them, Lu Haikong was a revered figure, and the enemy's audacity to speak in such a manner was intolerable.
"Who are you to demand an audience with our Chieftain? Face my grandfather's axe first!"
Pan Feng, known for his fiery temper, couldn't tolerate the arrogance of the enemy general. Without hesitation, he mounted his horse, brandished his Ghostly Masked Axe, and charged at the opponent.
The enemy general, possessing keen insight, recognized Pan Feng's prowess. His pupils constricted, knowing this brute force was not to be underestimated. Yet, he remained silent, even stepping forward to discipline Pan Feng.
As Pan Feng entered the enemy's cavalry range, a cold smile appeared on the general's face. "A mere mountain bandit dares to challenge me? Fire!"
To everyone's shock, the general waved his hand, signaling his cavalry to attack Pan Feng.
This was outrageous. While Pan Feng wasn't afraid of a hundred archers, a sneak attack could be deadly.
To make matters worse, the bows and arrows used by those guys were all elite-level, with extremely high killing power. As a large volley of arrows rained down, Pan Feng was caught off guard, unaware of the immense power of these arrows. He was nearly turned into a pincushion.
Thankfully, Lu HaiKong had previously gifted him a set of elite-level armor, or else Pan Feng would have been in a dire situation. Even so, he still ended up with over a dozen colorful wounds on his body.
Pan Feng was furious at the enemy's despicable tactics, but he had no choice but to retreat. If he hadn't been injured, he might have been able to withstand a few waves of such an arrow storm, but now, he dared not charge forward under this level of arrow fire. Doing so would be a suicidal act.
However, as Pan Feng attempted to retreat, the enemy commander had no intention of letting him go. It seemed like he wanted to make an example of Pan Feng.
"Pursue and shoot down that mountain bandit who dares to offend this general!" the commander ordered.
Setting aside the commander's character, his cavalry unit was exceptionally elite. At his command, the cavalry sprang into action, galloping towards Pan Feng while drawing their bows to shoot him down.
Soon, another wave of bowstrings twanged, and a fresh volley of arrows descended upon Pan Feng. In this situation, Pan Feng's rage knew no bounds.
"You despicable scoundrel! Do you think my old man is easy to bully?" Pan Feng roared, and his 'Unmatched General' ability activated, releasing a terrifying aura of malevolent energy. For a moment, his aura seemed to solidify, but the effect was fleeting, lasting only an instant.
As Pan Feng unleashed his power, the arrows that were about to strike him suddenly lost their momentum and dropped like dumplings, devoid of any force.
Pan Feng quickly retreated to the safety of the wall, but the cavalry continued their pursuit. The second battalion on the wall responded with their own arrow volley, even though they were not primarily archers. Still, as defenders, they had some training with bows, and their 'Basic Archery' skill was above level 10.
In the 1619 version, the book is correct!
However, the bows and arrows they used were of poor quality, with both the bows and arrows being made of wood. Such arrows could barely harm the cavalry.
Fortunately, the cavalry unit halted as they entered the range of the wall's arrow fire and skillfully retreated out of the archers' range, returning to their commander.
"I didn't expect you, a mountain bandit, to be so adept at escaping," the commander said, his face filled with mockery.
Hearing this, Pan Feng's face turned red with anger, and he almost spat out a mouthful of blood. He had never encountered such a shameless person. Not only did the commander refuse to engage in a one-on-one duel, but he also ordered his cavalry to launch a sneak attack. And now, he had the audacity to speak such words.
"I was curious to see the kind of person who could establish such a mountain camp and the quality of his followers. But it seems he's not much better than you."
"Forget it. I don't even want to see him. Tell him that if he wants to do business in the future, he must come to Dingxiang City within three days to pay his respects to my lord!" With that, the commander turned and left, disappearing from Pan Feng's sight with his cavalry unit.
