Chapter 292: Mew's Secret Base, Astonishment Caused by Life Milk!
Chapter 292: Mew's Secret Base, Astonishment Caused by Life Milk!
Mew and Teddiursa had left, and life on the ranch returned to its usual peaceful state.
However, on that morning, an anxious and flustered Glaceon came rushing over, its face filled with terror. "Buui!"
Naoki was taken aback by this sight. What could have frightened the usually aloof Glaceon so much?
He munched on a piece of translated sunflower seed crisp as he spoke, "Calm down and tell me slowly."
Glaceon took a moment to calm itself and swallowed its saliva. With a terrified look on its face, it began to recount the events of the previous night.
"Buui buui! Buui..." (There's a ghost in the cave! Last night, as I was sleeping on the ice stone, at midnight, I suddenly heard an eerie, malicious laughter emanating from within the walls...)
Even now, recalling this event, Glaceon was still filled with dread, its face half-shrouded in a sinister fear.
"Buui... Buui!" (The walls of the cave are made of solid stone. There's no way anyone or any Pokemon could be in there... It must be a ghost!)
That laughter was sharp and grating, sometimes faint and sometimes strong, unlike anything a human or Pokemon should be capable of producing.
"A ghost?" Naoki was astonished. How could there be a ghost on the ranch? He had been living here for over a year, and aside from the Ghost-type Pokemon Gastly and Haunter, he hadn't encountered any other spectral Pokemon.
Was Glaceon referring to a ghost or a Ghost-type Pokemon?
Seeing Naoki's skepticism, Glaceon hurriedly assured him, "Buui! (It's true! That ghost is still laughing nonstop!)
"
"What? Really?"
Naoki immediately stopped what he was doing and, along with Golurk and a few other Pokemon from the ranch, made his way to the back of the old house, where Glaceon had made its home in an ice cave.
As he approached, Naoki could already hear the piercing and shrill laughter coming from within the walls.
Hearing the ghostly laughter, Naoki's sister, Marilli, hid behind her brother, "Aii..." (There really is a ghost laughing...)
Glaceon shivered, "Buui? (I'm not making this up, am I?)
"
Marilli's brother, Marcello, sighed helplessly.
Naoki, however, didn't feel too frightened. The sound didn't seem like something a typical Ghost-type Pokemon would make.
After a moment's thought, he stepped into the ice cave and pressed his ear against the wall, trying to pinpoint the direction of the laughter.
Golurk waited patiently for a moment, then asked, "Ah ga sii?" (What is it?)
"It doesn't sound like a ghost," Naoki replied, stepping back outside to search for the source of the sound from the exterior.
Soon, he located where the laughter was coming from.
Naoki pointed to the spot and instructed Golurk, "It's here. Punch this spot with your fist!"
Golurk obediently complied.
It balled its fist and delivered a powerful punch to the wall, causing a loud crash as a hole was blasted open.
Naoki stepped forward, cleared away the debris, and peered inside.
To his surprise, the wall wasn't solid. Instead, there was a small hidden space within.
The space was filled with a jumble of items, including stuffed toys, Pidgey plastic figurines, and toy race cars.
And the laughter? It was coming from a fluffy bear stuffed toy.
Naoki was bewildered by this discovery.
What was this all about? Who had set this up?
He reached into the hole and, with his arm just long enough, managed to pull out the laughing stuffed bear.
Unzipping the bear's back, Naoki found the sound-emitting component inside.
It seemed that the batteries were running low, causing the laughter to be faint and ghostly.
"It's not a ghost, just a toy," Naoki said as he showed the toy to Glaceon and Marilli.
As he removed the batteries from the toy, the laughter stopped immediately.
Glaceon, upon seeing the cute bear, paused for a moment before realizing what had happened, and its face turned bright red with embarrassment.
It had embarrassed itself again! How mortifying!
Glaceon meekly replied, "Bu yi..." (I see...)
Marilli also breathed a sigh of relief, but then she noticed something, "Aii? (Who put these toys here?)
Golurk thought for a moment and speculated, "Ah ga sii? Ah ga sii... (Mew? I've seen it come here and use its psychic powers on the wall...)
"
It recalled that among the Pokemon on the ranch, only Mew enjoyed playing with toys and often kept them in its nest.
It couldn't have been Teddiursa since Teddiursa gave everything it found to Naoki and kept nothing for itself.
Hearing Golurk's words, Naoki instantly thought of a particular move.
It was Secret Power!
This was a very unique move, not only capable of attacking but also creating secret bases within grass patches, trees, or caverns.
It was clear that Mew loved this spot, but it probably forgot to turn off its toys before leaving.
With the toy left on, the batteries slowly drained, causing the laughter to become faint and ghostly.
No wonder Glaceon mistook it for a ghost...
It was all a misunderstanding.
After uncovering the truth, Naoki shared his speculation with Glaceon. He then placed Mew's teddy bear back inside and used rocks to cover the hole that Golurk had punched.
He decided to wait for Mew and Teddiursa to return and explain the situation to them later.
"Alright, it's all taken care of. Everyone can go back now!"
Meanwhile, at the Soaking Town Market Headquarters...
Zack had brought the two bottles of Gogoat milk for a comprehensive inspection.
Pokemon milk was unique and special, much like the fruits found in nature, and it even had the effect of restoring the energy of injured Pokemon.
When consumed by humans over an extended period, their bodies would become stronger and healthier. Research had shown that children who drank Pokemon milk tended to be healthier and more robust than those who drank regular milk.
Additionally, a single Gogoat could produce up to twenty liters of nutrient-rich milk per day, making this milk a vital food source for humans, just like rice and flour.
Compared to Gogoat milk, female riding-type Gogoats produced less milk, and the nutritional content was not as rich.
This limited the sales of Gogoat milk, with only a small portion of people opting for it, while the majority preferred the tastier and more abundant Pokemon milk.
Zack had always believed this to be the case.
However, everything changed when Naoki Farm began selling their Gogoat milk.
The high-quality Gogoat milk contained a startlingly high level of nutrients, far surpassing regular Pokemon milk. Moreover, drinking it over a long period could help invigorate weak and elderly individuals.
And now... after a year of maturation, the Gogoat milk from Naoki Farm seemed to have reached a state of perfection.
With this in mind, Zack handed one of the bottles to the inspector at the Soaking Town Market Headquarters.
Due to the abundance of nearby farms and ranches, the headquarters was equipped with professional fresh milk testing equipment.
The inspector took the bottle and poured its contents into the testing apparatus, casually asking, "Which ranch did this milk come from?"
"It's not from a ranch," Zack clarified. "It's Gogoat milk from Naoki Farm."
"Oh? Is it the famous magical Gogoat milk from town?" The inspector's interest was piqued.
Zack grinned and replied, "Yes, indeed!"
"In that case, I'll have to thoroughly examine its nutritional content!" The inspector was intrigued, having heard tales of the legendary Gogoat milk.
Rumor had it that Mrs. Dantes' bedridden husband, who had been weak and frail, gained more vitality after consuming meals made with Gogoat milk. Every morning, he could be spotted jogging on the streets.
The testing apparatus slowly started up, and the computer in the room swiftly analyzed the milk's composition and nutrition.
As the inspection progressed, the data graph on the computer screen, representing the quality of the fresh milk, began to soar.
"It's... off the charts! This is super-perfect quality Gogoat milk!" The inspector was astonished.
Zack leaned forward to take a closer look.
But the next second, they witnessed the data graph at the pinnacle explode.
Both of them wore expressions of sheer amazement.
It had exceeded the limits! This indicated that the nutritional content in the bottle far surpassed their expectations!
"Over eight hundred types of beneficial nutrients for the human body! Astonishing!"
The inspector's fingers flew across the keyboard, and soon, she discovered something even more remarkable.
"There's a very unique energy in the Gogoat milk!"
"What kind of energy?" Zack inquired eagerly.
"I don't know," the inspector admitted, shaking her head. "But I can assure you, it's not harmful to humans. Wait—such a dense concentration of active factors!"
Her face reflected her shock.
She stared at the bottle of milk, unable to believe her eyes, and turned to Zack. "If I'm not mistaken, this bottle of Gogoat milk possesses terrifying healing abilities!"
"Similar to Pokemon milk?" Zack asked, his voice laced with anticipation.
The inspector nodded vigorously. "But its effects are several dozen to a hundred times stronger! I must conduct a specific test to gauge its healing capabilities!"
The two shared a knowing glance, their minds reaching the same conclusion.
They needed to go to the Pokemon Center!
Fifteen minutes later, at the Soaking Town Pokemon Center...
"Miss Joy, please help this Electrike!" the young trainer pleaded.
Miss Joy examined the Electrike and frowned with concern. "How did it get so badly hurt?"
The trainer, ashamed and tearful, explained, "It's my fault... I shouldn't have gone to such a dangerous place. Electrike tried to protect me and was attacked by a powerful Salazzle..." He begged, "Miss Joy, please save it!"
Hearing this, Zack stepped forward without hesitation. "I have a way to treat this Electrike!"
Miss Joy turned to Zack, taken aback for a moment. "Mr. Zack?"
Without a word, Zack rushed forward, pouring the bottle of Gogoat milk into the Electrike's mouth.
The next second, a miraculous scene unfolded. As the Gogoat milk was consumed, the Electrike's wounds began to heal at a visible rate.
As the crowd watched in awe, the once critically injured Electrike slowly opened its eyes and flapped its wings, rising from the stretcher.
It looked as if it had never been injured at all.
The trainer, overcome with emotion, hugged the Electrike tightly, tears in his eyes as he whispered, "It's alright now... You're alright, Electrike!"
Miss Joy stared at the scene before her, incredulous. "What just happened?"
Based on her past experience, she knew that Electrike's injuries should not have healed so quickly, and there was even a possibility that it would be left with incurable ailments.
But now... it had recovered fully?
Zack and the inspector were equally shocked.
"What terrifying healing capabilities!"
Miss Joy turned to Zack, recognizing him as the uncle who drove the large truck delivering goods to the Soaking Market. "Mr. Zack, what was that?"
Zack, still reeling from the surprise, replied, "That was... Life Milk!"
"Life Milk?" Miss Joy asked, slightly puzzled.
"It can instantly restore the stamina of a dying Pokemon and heal all its wounds," Zack explained. "There's no name more fitting than Life Milk."
The inspector, equally awe-struck, nodded vigorously. "Yes! Life Milk... It truly brings new life to severely injured Pokemon!"
The young trainer, having calmed down a little, expressed his gratitude to Zack. "Thank you so much, Uncle!"
Zack snapped out of his daze and shook his head. "There's no need to thank me. If you want to show your appreciation, go to Naoki Ranch and thank the owner there!"
Miss Joy was perplexed. Naoki Ranch? How was Mr. Naoki involved again?
The young trainer, hearing a name he had never encountered before, furrowed his brow in confusion. "Naoki Ranch?"
Zack affirmed, "Yes, because the Gogoat milk that Electrike just drank was produced by the Riding Gogoat that Naoki bred using a secret method."
"I see!" Miss Joy recalled the three happily running Riding Gogoats in the grassy field.
"Mr. Naoki?" The young trainer paused, then nodded seriously. "I'll remember that!"
To verify the milk's effects, Zack requested Miss Joy, "Miss Joy, could you please perform a full-body check on Electrike?"
"Of course!" Miss Joy smiled gently.
She then took Electrike to the examination room, and in no time, she returned to the lobby.
Facing the anxious trainer, who was worried that Electrike might still have some untreated injuries, and the expectant Zack, Miss Joy gently assured them,
"There's no need to worry. Electrike's body has completely recovered, and even the old wounds it sustained in previous battles have been healed. The Life Milk is incredibly effective!"
As expected of Mr. Naoki! The Gogoats he bred are truly amazing! Miss Joy admired inwardly.
Even the Pokemon League Champion valued Mr. Naoki highly and personally invited him to join the Pokemon League!
I wonder why Mr. Naoki refused... Perhaps someone as accomplished as Mr. Naoki, who could even capture the King of Bountiful Harvest, doesn't care about the League's salary?
Miss Joy mused.
Hearing her confirmation, Zack nodded and expressed his gratitude to Miss Joy before hurrying off.
Now that the quality and effects of the milk had been confirmed, the next step was to determine its price.
However, they were faced with a dilemma as they had never encountered such milk before and had no idea how to set an appropriate price.
Ten thousand? Twenty thousand? Thirty thousand? Forty thousand? Or fifty thousand?
