Chapter 291: Selling Shares
Chapter 291: Selling Shares
Lu Jiaxin called the He family's old residence, and although a servant answered, they wouldn't let Gu Haifan take the call, saying that he was running a fever and couldn't come to the phone. She had originally planned to return to Hong Kong in another half-month, but now that she had been able to get through to Gu Haifan for three consecutive days, she couldn't wait any longer.
Lu Jiaxin asked Gu Wenfeng, "When will that person you mentioned arrive? I'm planning to head back in the next couple of days."
Gu Wenfeng had recommended someone who was supposedly even more skilled than himself and well-versed in various firearms. In times like these, the stronger the bodyguard, the better.
"He'll be here early tomorrow morning, and we can head back in the afternoon," Gu Wenfeng replied.
Lu Jiaxin was a little surprised. "I thought you'd try to talk me out of going back."
Gu Wenfeng shook his head. "If you don't go back now, you'll never be at peace for the rest of your life should something happen to Gu Haifan. And since you don't want Gu Man'er's money, they wouldn't go so far as to harm you."
Lu Jiaxin smiled, but it was a cold smile. "My surname is Lu, and my guardian is Su Heyuan. Even if they harm me, they won't get a single cent. But just in case, I'll make a will this time before I go back. If anything really does happen to me, all the assets under my name will be donated to the country."
With so much money under her name and no spouse or children, if she didn't leave a will, Su Heyuan wouldn't be able to get his hands on much of it. The lion's share would go to her biological father, Lu Hongjun. The thought of him living a carefree life with her money made her sick.
"Don't worry, we'll protect you and won't let anyone hurt you," Gu Wenfeng assured her.
Lu Jiaxin was a person who cherished her life, but there were too many uncertainties in life, and these were things that people couldn't control. "I'm just taking precautions. I want to live to a ripe old age of eighty!"
The next morning, the person Gu Wenfeng had recommended, Wang Lin, arrived. His tall and erect posture immediately gave away his military background.
Wang Lin stood as straight as a pine tree and introduced himself.
In fact, Lu Jiaxin had already learned about his background before he arrived. Wang Lin was twenty-eight years old and had taken leave a month ago to return home and marry his childhood sweetheart. Wanting to give her a surprise, he hadn't informed her beforehand. However, when he arrived, he found her in the arms of another man, a slick and oily-looking man. Young and hot-blooded, Wang Lin couldn't contain his anger and gave the man a thorough beating, breaking six of his ribs.
After leaving the army, Wang Lin didn't return to his hometown but stayed in Si Jiu City. His former comrades helped him find a job, but before he'd even worked a month, his previous leader found him and told him about a job that was supposedly perfect for him. Upon hearing about Lu Jiaxin's situation, he agreed without hesitation.
Lu Jiaxin looked at him and asked, "Do you regret it? If you had controlled yourself then, you would still have a promising future in the military."
Wang Lin replied without hesitation, "I don't regret it. If I had endured that situation, I wouldn't be a man."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "I know the military's discipline like the back of my hand. I was aware that if I took action, I would have to leave the military, so I didn't hold back."
Lu Jiaxin was curious about the other man's injuries. "Did you really just break his ribs? Nothing more?"
Wang Lin didn't hide the truth. "His legs are also useless now. If they're not treated properly, he'll become a cripple."
Lu Jiaxin quite liked his personality. Even knowing the consequences, he had chosen to act according to his heart, and he didn't regret it, even though the outcome was tragic. He was clear-headed and responsible, unlike some people who acted impulsively and then regretted it later, only to be unable to bear the consequences and sink into despair.
"Aren't you afraid he'll take revenge on your family?" she asked.
Wang Lin wasn't worried at all. "I only took off my beloved military uniform; I didn't die. He wouldn't dare."
Lu Jiaxin then asked, "Do you hate your fiancee?"
Lu Jiaxin's curiosity about Wang Lin's past continued, and she asked if he hated his ex-fiancee for her deceit.
Wang Lin fell silent for a moment before replying, "It would be a lie to say I don't hate her. But since I've already broken off the engagement, we won't have any more interactions. Whether her life takes a turn for the better or worse has nothing to do with me anymore."
If she had been honest with him, he might have forgiven her. But the fact that she had cheated on him while still maintaining their engagement was something he couldn't tolerate.
Lu Jiaxin quite liked his ability to let go, and she smiled as she said, "My train leaves at 3 p.m., so you should get some rest now."
This was her way of agreeing to let him stay, and Wang Lin felt his entire body relax. His leader had mentioned that Comrade Lu, despite moving to Hong Kong, still cared deeply about the mainland and had donated over 20 million yuan. Wang Lin was more than willing to risk his life to protect such a person.
Lu Jiaxin headed to Pengcheng first, staying there for two days before finally returning to Hong Kong. As for Wang Lin, since he had been hired on short notice, he didn't have the necessary travel documents and had to remain behind temporarily until the paperwork was sorted out.
Accompanied by Xue Mao, Lu Jiaxin went directly to Yan Yihua's law firm upon her return to Hong Kong. She had already communicated her plans to Yan Yihua during her brief stay in Pengcheng—she intended to sell her shares, transfer her shares, and finally, make a will.
After waiting about ten minutes at the law firm, Su Heyuan arrived. Seeing Lu Jiaxin, he couldn't help but laugh. "Look at how tanned you've become. Aren't you afraid of scaring away Third Young Master Nie?"
When Yan Yihua had first seen Lu Jiaxin earlier, he'd been startled by her transformed appearance. In just over a month, she had become a tanned young woman. However, his professional demeanor prevented him from showing any surprise. Only Su Heyuan dared to bluntly comment on the young lady's changed looks.
Lu Jiaxin rolled her eyes at him and said, "I'm only seventeen. What's the rush? You, on the other hand, should hurry up. If you don't, you'll soon be stepping into your thirties and becoming a middle-aged uncle."
When it came to witty banter, Su Heyuan was no match for her.
Clearing his throat, Yan Yihua interrupted the playful exchange. "Mr. Su, Miss Lu, I've already prepared the contract. Please take a look."
Previously, out of respect for Nie Zhan, Lu Jiaxin had asked him for advice, and he had answered her diligently. However, he never expected that this would bring him so much business.
Lu Jiaxin carefully reviewed the contract, ensuring there were no issues before signing it and passing it to Su Heyuan.
Without even glancing at the document, Su Heyuan quickly signed his name and then asked, "Jiaxin, where's the thing you promised me?"
Seeing his anxious expression, Lu Jiaxin took out the planning document from her bag and handed it to him.
Su Heyuan skimmed through the document, and when he finished, his face lit up with a broad smile. "With this, I no longer have to worry about the company's future."
Although the company had made significant profits over the past year, there was also a lot of competition, and they had lost a portion of their orders to rival companies. Even though Lu Jiaxin hadn't been directly involved in the company's operations, she had a keen sense of fashion trends, and with her guidance, the company would surely thrive.
Yan Yihua glanced at the two sheets of paper in Su Heyuan's hand. Previously, he had been puzzled as to why Lu Jiaxin, being a student with no time to manage the company, held 60% of the shares. Now, he understood. Not only was she the company's chief designer, but she was also the one steering the company's direction. With this new understanding, he realized that Su Heyuan was the lucky one, and he couldn't help but admire Third Young Master Nie's foresight.
Smiling, Lu Jiaxin said, "You have a government-organized meeting to attend at 10:30 a.m., don't you? Take it with you and read it slowly. If there's anything you don't understand, we can discuss it over the phone."
Su Heyuan was eager to dive into the document and had no intention of waiting for a phone call. "I'll go to the meeting first, and then we can have lunch together afterward."
"Come find me directly at the Manhua Hotel. I hear the food there is quite good."
"Okay."
