Chapter 290: Stalling at the Entrance for the Hunt
Chapter 290: Stalling at the Entrance for the Hunt (Requesting Monthly Vote)
Lin Qi nodded in satisfaction, staring at his Points balance. Over two days of relentless slaughter, he’d accumulated over 20,000 more Points than his previous total of 15,000.
The gap between him and the second-place Jiang Tao and third-place Guo Heng had grown insurmountable.
He turned his gaze to the Points Leaderboard:
[Disaster Beast Hunting Competition – Points Leaderboard]
1st: Azure Firmament Sixth College – Points: ……
2nd: Azure Firmament First Institute – Points: ……
3rd: Azure Firmament Ninth Courtyard – Points: ……
“So our Azure Firmament Sixth College has completely outclassed the First Institute.”
Lin Qi wasn’t surprised. At the competition’s start, the Sixth and First Institutes had traded first place repeatedly in a fierce battle. But today, the outcome was clear: the Sixth Institute’s total had surged over 30,000 Points ahead, cementing their position. The First Institute had no chance of catching up.
“Time for a break, then straight to the Spatial Gate entrance,” he muttered, recalling Deputy Principal Xu Wenji’s advice. To hunt Class-4 Disaster Beasts, one had to go to the deepest part of Zone 2—the Spatial Gate entrance. In half an hour, the fourth-tier beasts would be released.
Staring at the colossal portal in the distance, he clenched his fist. Half a day remained. If they camped at the entrance, they could massacre enough beasts to secure victory.
“I need to hunt even more. I need more money!”
Rising, he strode toward the supply depot.

Meanwhile, deep in another jungle:
“Haaah!”
A hulking figure swung a crimson Great Axe wreathed in blazing fire. Huo Wanyang faced down four Ironblood Scaled Boars the size of armored vehicles. Their blood-colored scales shimmered as they encircled him.
With a roar, he swung his axe. A wave of fire erupted, engulfing the beasts. Flames seared their hides, sending them into frenzied panic.
Before they could recover, Huo Wanyang carved through their throats with brutal efficiency. Seconds later, charred corpses littered the ground.
Panting, he checked his wrist display:
[1st: Huo Wanyang – Points: 33,680]
“Even using Crimson Flame drained me,” he muttered. A new notification flashed—a live update of the Azure Firmament Sixth College Leaderboard. Over 35,000 Points.
His face darkened. “Lin Qi’s still ahead? My slaughter efficiency must be lower… I need a pack of Class-3 or 4 beasts. Only then can I use my Special Ability to overtake him.”
He glared at the distant Spatial Gate.
---
By 1 PM, the competition had four hours left. Exhausted students trickled out, leaving only the most resilient.
Zone 2’s deepest region—a vast, grassy clearing—reeked of blood. The Spatial Gate loomed in the sky, a gaping portal to a boundless forest.
“Roar!”
A thunderous tremor shook the ground as beasts of all sizes surged through the gate. Flying monsters took wing, only to be cut down by Skybreaker Craft machine guns.
A group of soldiers in green uniforms stood guard, their scent ignored by the beasts.
“Expand the Spatial Gate—release the Class-4 beasts!” barked a tall officer.
The soldiers obeyed. The gate’s edges rippled outward. A massive jade-green shadow wriggled through, followed by more colossal figures. With earth-shaking thuds, they landed, kicking up dust.
From the forest, two figures sprinted forward—Huo Wanyang and Lin Qi.
“Closing the gate!” the officer ordered, recognizing the two Fourth Realm prodigies.
The Spatial Gate shrank, sealing the beasts inside. Lin Qi scanned the horde: swarms of Class-1, -2, and -3 beasts, and—most notably—a cluster of Class-4s.
The Bronze Wild Bulls stood out like moving hills, six meters long and three high, their bronze scales glinting like armor. Their horns curved like war axes, eyes glowing blood-red.
The horde turned as one.
“Charge!”
The earth quaked as beasts stampeded toward the two warriors. The sheer pressure was suffocating. Lin Qi’s blood boiled, his primal energy surging.
“Three million Xia Currency if we wipe them out,” he thought, grinning.
Huo Wanyang roared, drawing a crowd. His axe flared with crimson fire, cleaving a three-meter blade of flame. The inferno engulfed beasts like kindling, spreading panic.
Lin Qi darted forward, a black blur. His Long Spear pierced a Blazing Tiger Hound’s throat.
Points +10
Dodging a swarm of Obsidian Horn Boars, he reappeared behind them, striking dozens of fatal blows.
“Die! Die!”
The slaughter began in earnest.
---
Back at Fortress 6, students watched the Leaderboard erupt.
“Huo’s Points just skyrocketed—past 36,000!”
“And Brother Qi’s at 37,000!”
The numbers climbed by the second, a duel of annihilation.
Blood soaked the grass, and the battle raged on.
