Chapter 29: The Crimson Light Spirit Beast
Chapter 29: The Crimson Light Spirit Beast
When Lu Qing heard that familiar scratching at his door, he could hardly believe his ears.
Hadn't Old Doctor Chen said that his medicinal powder was extremely effective, and even a wild beast would retreat upon smelling it? How dare this creature come back?
Lu Qing was exasperated. Would he be deprived of sleep again tonight? Something had to be done, or he feared he would never sleep soundly again.
After two consecutive nights of disturbed sleep, Lu Qing's temper had become a bit irritable.
He wanted to see what creature dared to be so bold.
Lu Qing tiptoed to the front door with a club in his hand. Suddenly, he swiftly unlatched the door and flung it open.
This sudden action startled the creature outside.
Since awakening his supernatural ability, Lu Qing's eyes had undergone subtle changes that were not easily noticeable.
Firstly, his vision had improved significantly, allowing him to see clearly even at great distances.
Secondly, he had become very sensitive to light sources.
Although he couldn't see in complete darkness, the slightest hint of light was enough for him to make out objects quite clearly.
At that moment, under the bright moonlight, Lu Qing finally saw the creature that had been bothering him for the past two nights.
It was a small, black beast.
Two feet in length, it resembled a cat or a panther, with two large eyes like light bulbs.
Its fur was puffed up, its tail erect, and its limbs crouched as it glared warily at Lu Qing.
Upon seeing the black beast clearly, Lu Qing actually felt relieved.
Fortunately, the beast didn't seem very large or ferocious.
After all, it was the same creature that had been scared away by a door slam the night before, so it probably wasn't very brave.
For some reason, the black beast didn't run away this time. It remained crouched, staring at Lu Qing warily.
Lu Qing stood quietly, facing the beast without making any rash attempts to drive it away.
He wanted to use his ability to gather information about the beast before deciding on his next move.
Lu Qing maintained a calm demeanor and directed his gaze at the beast.
However, his eyes widened in surprise almost immediately.
A faint crimson light emanated from the mysterious beast.
Black Night Spirit Raccoon: A mountain spirit beast, juvenile form, female.
Incredibly fast, with sharp claws that can crush stones and tear through metal.
According to legends, the Black Night Spirit Raccoon loves to eat fish but is born with an aversion to water, leaving it to yearn for fish from afar.
A crimson-light-level wild beast?!
Lu Qing was astonished and nearly jumped in surprise.
The supernatural light emanating from the mysterious beast had already reached the crimson light level.
Wasn't that on par with Old Doctor Chen's level?
No wonder the medicinal powder had no effect.
Lu Qing took a few deep breaths to calm his emotions.
He felt a surge of relief.
Fortunately, he hadn't acted rashly just now.
He never expected this little creature to be a crimson light-level spirit beast.
Moreover, according to the information that appeared, it was incredibly fast with sharp claws that could crush stones and tear through metal!
Such exaggerated lethality might even surpass that of a tiger or a leopard. Thankfully, the beast was timid; otherwise, he might have already been lying on the ground, defeated.
Lu Qing quietly hid the club behind him and put on a harmless smile.
"Little one, did you come here because you want to eat fish?"
The black beast continued to eye Lu Qing warily, seemingly not understanding what he was saying.
Chapter 29: The Black Night Spirit Raccoon
Lu Qing didn't expect a wild beast to understand his words.
He cautiously shifted his feet and quickly fetched two dried fish from the kitchen, careful not to startle the small black beast.
As Lu Qing held the fish at the doorway, he noticed the black beast's eyes glint with interest.
As he had expected, this little guy was lured by the fish.
Lu Qing recalled the third note's description.
He waved the fish in front of him.
"Sorry for scaring you earlier. These two fish are my apology gift to you."
In the night, the black beast's eyes, like light bulbs, followed the movement of the fish.
Seeing this, Lu Qing felt relieved.
"Take it," he said, tossing the fish into the yard and intentionally throwing it a bit farther away from the beast to avoid provoking it.
The fish landed on the ground, causing the little beast to retreat a few steps, its eyes fixed on Lu Qing.
Lu Qing remained still, standing quietly in place.
Sensing that Lu Qing had no intention of attacking, the black beast's puffed-up fur gradually calmed.
It glanced at the fish on the ground, its nose twitching a few times before it suddenly sprang into action.
Lu Qing could only see a black shadow dart past, and the next moment, the fish on the ground had disappeared.
Immediately after, the little beast's figure leaped over the fence and swiftly vanished into the night mist.
Lu Qing quietly waited for a while to ensure the beast had left before closing the door and returning to his room.
As he lay in bed, his heart began to pound uncontrollably.
He couldn't help but feel anxious about the earlier encounter.
Although the black beast seemed timid, who knew if it would attack if provoked?
As the saying goes, even a cornered rabbit will bite.
Moreover, this wasn't a rabbit but a powerful spirit beast!
Its claws were sharp enough to crush stones and tear through metal!
If it could tear through metal, what chance did his flesh and blood stand?
Lu Qing dared not take any risks.
Fortunately, the black beast was not only timid but also lacked aggression.
Otherwise, Lu Qing wasn't sure if he would have survived the encounter.
"How come I've never heard anyone in the village mention such a powerful beast?"
As his emotions calmed, a question arose in Lu Qing's mind.
Then, he recalled the descriptions from the notes that appeared with his ability.
The beast seemed to be in its juvenile form. Could its parents be nearby?
Probably not. If its parents were around, they would have shown up by now.
Lu Qing remembered the note also mentioned that the Black Night Spirit Raccoon loved to eat fish.
Perhaps it had migrated from another place, been driven away by its parents, or lost them to some misfortune?
Lu Qing considered various possibilities but couldn't come to a conclusion.
However, he had a hunch that after tonight, the black beast would likely return.
He had no basis for this feeling; it was just a gut instinct.
"Looks like I can't give up on fishing after all," Lu Qing thought helplessly.
Recently, he had planned to take a break from fishing and focus entirely on studying medicine.
After all, once Old Doctor Chen sold the Red Moon Carp, he would have a substantial sum of money that would ensure a comfortable life for him and Xiao Yan for quite some time.
But now, with this black beast taking an interest in him, he had to adjust his plans.
It was a crimson-light-level spirit beast, after all—not something he could afford to provoke. For now, appeasement was the best strategy.
"What a nuisance!" Lu Qing sighed.
