Chapter 29: Eye of the Storm Sovereign
Kai Xiusu spread his wings and soared over the crumbling stone bridge—not fleeing, but racing toward the Remains of a Storm Giant.
The hurricane roared around him, hurling him left and right. Blinding lightning arcs danced like serpents behind him, striking down in relentless waves, carving deep, charred craters into the ruins below.
The Red Dragon fought through the chaotic winds, flapping his wings with desperate strength, tilting wildly as he pushed toward the storm’s heart.
The closer he drew, the more violent the Elemental Reactivity became. Lightning crackled in every breath of air, thick and suffocating.
After just a few breaths, the Red Dragon was already broken.
Despite the protection of several spells, the fury of the elemental storm had left deep, scorched scars across his body. His golden scales were pitted and eroded by corrosive rain, and arcs of electricity now danced along his flesh. Each flap of his wings sent out a sharp hiss, like sizzling oil.
At last, he was ten meters from the corpse.
"Boom!"
A lightning bolt, thick as a man’s torso, struck Kai Xiusu head-on—so fast it bypassed his perception entirely.
[Spell Nullification Barrier]
An invisible shield flared into existence, barely holding against the strike before shattering. It saved him again—this time, by the skin of his teeth. The near-miss sent a jolt of terror through his soul.
He couldn’t waste another second.
"Roar—!"
The Red Dragon’s cry was raw, almost childlike in its desperation—rasping, strained, as if his voice were tearing at the edges.
Then, with every ounce of strength in his body, he drove his wings down, forcing himself forward through the maelstrom. The storm raged harder than ever, but he pressed on, inch by agonizing inch, until he hovered mere meters from the Remains of a Storm Giant.
"I must get there!" Kai Xiusu roared.
Now, the Frenzied Thunderbolts had turned the space around him into a living inferno. One step forward, and he’d be reduced to charcoal in an instant.
There was no retreat.
Ignoring the storm’s fury, Kai Xiusu locked his gaze on the Storm Giant’s eye.
The eye was like amber, encircled by a dazzling halo of blinding lightning. Within it pulsed a power so immense, so ancient, it defied comprehension.
This was no mere corpse.
It was a weapon. A cursed relic of unfathomable might.
The physical manifestation of the Storm Giant’s dominion over Cataclysm—the final executor of its last prophecy: total annihilation.
It had cast this storm.
"Come down!"
Muscles bulging, Kai Xiusu tore the eye from the giant’s socket with a sickening rip, clamping it tightly in his claw.
"Zzzzzt—BANG!"
In that instant, the eye triggered a maelstrom of lightning. The weave of magic itself warped, forming a terrifying vortex of electric energy.
The Red Dragon convulsed. Flesh vaporized.
Lightning blazed through his claw, so intense it turned his palm translucent. For a heartbeat, his bones were visible beneath the skin.
Yet he held on—because letting go meant death.
The storm would reduce him to ash.
One second.
Two.
Three.
Breathing heavily, the Red Dragon felt the light in his claw fade.
"Rumble..."
The thunderbolts receded like a tide. The storm clouds above, driven by the wind, began to disperse.
The cyclone, once raging in the cavern, slowed, weakened, and finally stilled.
Silence. Darkness.
Peace.
The grand Mausoleum, once a monument to a fallen giant empire, now lay in ruins—just another collapsed cave, its ancient glory buried beneath rubble. No trace remained of the empire’s radiant past.
"It’s over…"
Kai Xiusu exhaled a thick, sulfur-scented breath.
Carefully, he opened his claw.
The thick, armored palm was burned, flesh reduced to charred husks, scales melted into jagged, ugly lumps. But the Red Dragon didn’t care. His eyes burned with anticipation, with exhilaration.
Resting in his palm was the blue amber eye—gleaming like a flawless gemstone, beautiful enough to be set into a noble lady’s gown.
Only the faint, pulsing blue glow betrayed its true nature—its connection to the storm, to the terror it had just unleashed.

"This…"
Red Dragon stared, eyes wide—pupils blown wide, revealing deep orange irises like embers.
Artifact.
Kai Xiusu’s assessment was simple: two words.
Just this one 【Eye of the Storm Sovereign】 made the price of this reckless adventure more than worth it.
In the mortal world, this relic would sell for over a hundred million U.S. dollars on the black market.
【Revenge Storm】 was a noble 9th-level spell—its mere casting could turn the tide of any battle.
【Control Weather】 was a rare, high-tier 8th-level spell, unmatched in versatility.
And 【Storm Resonance Body】? A devastating edge in melee combat.
Kai Xiusu clenched the deep-blue gem tightly in his claw, as if fearing he might lose it. For the first time, he understood the frantic urgency the Chimera had felt while smuggling gold.
"Boom!"
Massive chunks of rock tumbled from the cavern ceiling, narrowly missing the Red Dragon’s head before exploding into shards on impact.
Kai Xiusu looked up—and froze.
The cracks in the ceiling were now deeper, more pronounced, spreading outward in a spiderweb pattern toward the center.
"No… The underground world is collapsing!"
"Run!"
The Red Dragon flared his wings and launched into flight, dodging falling debris with agility enhanced by prior magic. He was far more nimble than a typical Red Dragon—thanks to his training.
Joy at the treasure. Dread at the danger.
Kai Xiusu was caught between ecstasy and terror.
