Chapter 29: Determination
Chapter 29: Determination
What the heck!
Looking at the two people before him, Naoki instantly recognized two names in his mind—Dr. Oak and her son, Peppa.
What's going on? Isn't Dr. Oak supposed to be deceased? Naoki's mind raced as he glanced at the young boy beside Dr. Oak.
The boy didn't seem very old, but from his striking resemblance to Dr. Oak, it was clear they shared a blood relation.
He must be Peppa!
So, when exactly is this? Did he travel not to the beginning of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet game's storyline but a full decade earlier?
But why would Goureton be fleeing from the Paretia Great Crater, injured, just like in the game's narrative? No, now didn't seem like the time for that discussion.
Naoki turned to Dr. Oak and Peppa, who were waiting expectantly for an answer. He nodded, feigning ignorance: "Who are you?"
Dr. Oak fixed her gaze on his eyes for a moment, then shifted her attention to Goureton by his side: "I am Dr. Oak. The Pokemon next to you is Goureton, from a distant ancient era."
"Not long ago, we used a certain technology to summon it from that time to the present, but after its arrival, it attacked us and escaped from the laboratory."
"Goureton..." Naoki pondered this new information, absent in the games, in his mind.
Dr. Oak continued, "However, the power of that ancient era, with its primal and fundamental nature, is too violent. This force will inevitably drive it to attack other Pokemon and humans sooner or later."
After the departure of this Goureton, Dr. Oak and her husband, Dr. Fortu, used a time machine to summon a new Goureton and a Miltank from the future.
They took these two Pokemon home and lived with their son, Peppa, for a while.
At first, everything seemed fine, but suddenly one day, Goureton and Miltank turned aggressive and attacked other Pokemon.
To prevent more Pokemon from being harmed, Dr. Oak and Dr. Fortu took them back to Zone 0 at the bottom of the Paretia Great Crater.
At the same time, they began tracking the Goureton that had escaped from Zone 0 and eventually found traces of it in this town of Wetwood.
Naoki's brows furrowed as he listened.
Goureton, by his side, was tense: "Grrr..."
When Naoki looked at it, the tension on Goureton's face immediately softened.
Witnessing this, Dr. Oak was surprised, but then she recalled the terrifying scene of Goureton and Miltank attacking other Pokemon and destroying the earth. She continued, "It seems you've developed a bond with it, but I'm sorry to say that Pokemon summoned from ancient times have violent temperaments, unlike modern Pokemon. We can't guarantee that it won't harm you, nor can we assure that it won't hurt other Pokemon or humans besides you."
"So, I hope you will return Goureton to us. We will take it away from the Paretia region to where it belongs."
Hearing this, Naoki's heart tightened.
He knew Dr. Oak was right; in the games, Goureton gave off a silly and adorable vibe, but its fiery temper had indeed driven Dr. Oak to bring it back to Zone 0.
Emotionally and logically, Dr. Oak had every right to take this Goureton back.
But...
Dr. Oak reached into the pocket of her lab coat and pulled out a specially made Poke Ball, preparing to capture this Goureton and return it to Zone 0.
Goureton took a step forward and roared. His massive red body lunged forward, and his dragon claws, gleaming with cold light, slashed downward.
Before anyone could react, the Poke Ball was swatted away.
The red and white Poke Ball was shredded by Goureton's dragon claws. It fell to the ground, emitting a crackling sound and a puff of black smoke before breaking.
Then, Goureton turned and made a move to attack Dr. Oak.
Naoki was startled by Goureton's sudden action and quickly shouted, "Goureton!"
At the same time, Peppa, who had been looking unhappy, sprang into action as well. He stood in front of Dr. Oak and said protectively, "You're not hurting her!"
A beam of white light emerged from his pocket and landed on the ground, from which a Mawile appeared.
Goureton ignored Mawile and paused when he heard Naoki's call. He turned around and whimpered pitifully at Naoki.
"Grrr..."
"Goureton?"
Naoki called out tentatively.
The Goureton then walked over to him, looking very sad, and used his large claws to pull Naoki into his embrace, as if he was acting cute.
Naoki was slightly taken aback.
Dr. Oak, standing opposite them, looked on with a mixture of shock, confusion, and disbelief at the scene before her.
That Goureton...
Although Naoki didn't know what had happened, he somehow understood Goureton's intentions at that moment and felt the depth of his emotions.
—He wanted to stay here; he didn't want to leave him.
Naoki's mind raced with memories as he looked into Goureton's eyes and asked, "Will you hurt me or other Pokemon?"
Goureton shook his large head. "Gao..."
With Goureton's assurance, Naoki turned to Dr. Oak and Peppa and said, "I'm sorry, Dr. Oak, but I can't hand Goureton over to you."
Dr. Oak asked, perplexed, "Why? Aren't you afraid that one day it might suddenly attack you?"
Naoki shook his head, his heart clear as a mirror. "I trust it. Instead of worrying about things that haven't happened yet, I choose to believe what I see and know about Goureton now. He won't do something like that."
Dr. Oak was taken aback by his words.
At that moment, as she looked at this peculiarly "special" Goureton, she suddenly found herself curious about what had happened to him after he left Zone 0.
Dr. Oak had a dream in her heart.
She envisioned a world where ancient Pokemon and modern Pokemon lived together in harmony.
So, after reading the Scarlet and Violet Chronicles, she and her husband ventured to the dangerous Paretia Great Crater. They built an observation station there and used the deepest crystal to research a time machine, hoping to summon ancient and future Pokemon to this timeline.
However, the Goureton and Miltank they summoned displayed violent tendencies, leaving Dr. Oak and her husband feeling defeated.
And now... she was witnessing a different side to the Pokemon known as the "Winged King" in the Scarlet and Violet Chronicles.
"If you don't mind, could you tell me what happened after you met this Goureton?" Dr. Oak asked.
