Chapter 289: You Always Bring Me New Surprises
Chapter 289: You Always Bring Me New Surprises
"Is she always like that?" Hermione looked at Luna's retreating back and couldn't help but speak up.
"Yes, she's a bit odd, always has been", Ivan nodded.
Hermione pursed her lips. Compared to Luna's peculiarities, she actually wanted to ask Ivan about what happened during the summer. Did he lose someone close to him?
However, Hermione was also worried that asking might bring up painful memories for Ivan.
Just as Hermione was hesitating, Harry and Ron, seeing that they weren't moving, walked over.
"Harry, are you okay?" Ivan looked at Harry and asked.
Harry, who had just woken up, still looked a bit pale. He complained, "I feel awful."
Professor Lupin had just taken him to the hospital wing, and Madam Pomfrey had made a big fuss, insisting on giving him a full body check as if the Dementor had given him some serious illness just by being close to him.
"I bet there were others on the train who had the same experience, right?" Harry said with a forced smile. Seeing everyone's silence, he added nervously, "No one else?"
"Come on, Harry, everyone knows you were attacked by the Dementor. It's not a big deal", Ron patted his shoulder, trying to comfort him.
But I wasn't attacked at all.
Harry felt a bit depressed, unable to understand why he was the only one who fainted.
He remembered clearly that the Dementor hadn't even touched him.
Harry didn't want to admit that he was just too cowardly, but he couldn't think of any other explanation.
Ivan saw through Harry's thoughts and said, "Dementors affect everyone differently. The more painful your past experiences, the more they affect you."
"But there must be a way to make me immune, right? I heard from Ron that you used a spell to drive away dozens of Dementors!" Harry said, a bit excited. He found it hard to accept that he could be scared into unconsciousness by a Dementor.
"That was the Patronus Charm, remember? In our first year, we saw a blueish-white Phoenix in the Great Hall. That was Dumbledore's Patronus!" Ivan explained.
"Of course I remember, and you used that spell to defeat Quirrell!" Harry quickly recalled.
"Can you teach me, Ivan?" Harry asked tentatively, worried that Ivan might not want to teach him such a powerful spell.
"Sorry, Harry, I might not have much time lately", Ivan hesitated. He had to take over a dozen courses, accumulate credits, and complete the improvement of his potion. He didn't think he could spare the time to teach Harry.
Harry was a bit disappointed, but Ivan quickly told him he could learn from Professor Lupin.
Although the Patronus Charm is a high-level spell, it's not particularly difficult to learn. As long as you put in the effort, you can master it.
They walked into the Great Hall, chatting all the way. Ivan noticed they were a bit late, and the long tables of the four houses were already full. The Sorting Hat had just finished its new song, and Professor Mcgonagall stood on the stage with the Sorting Hat.
The group hurried to find empty seats before Professor Mcgonagall noticed them.
"Ivan, you were amazing today!" Ivan had just sat down when George leaned over, very excited.
Fred chimed in as well.
"Yeah, we all saw you drive away those awful Dementors on the train. I bet many adult wizards couldn't do that. By the way, what was your Patronus? A white horse? That's really beautiful, though we didn't get a good look at it."
"Hmm, more or less." Ivan spoke ambiguously, not wanting others to know about the uniqueness of his Patronus.
Apart from George and Fred, the young lions at the Gryffindor table also turned their gazes toward him. Ivan’s reputation was already quite significant, and with his recent heroic deeds, many were discussing what had happened on the train in private.
Their voices grew louder until Professor Mcgonagall, who was in the middle of the Sorting, turned to look at them. The young wizards quickly quieted down.
The Sorting Ceremony ended quickly.
As the last first-year walked down the steps, the Great Hall erupted into enthusiastic applause. They couldn’t wait to enjoy the feast.
However, Dumbledore stood up and walked to the front of the stage, surveying every student in the Great Hall as he delivered a welcome speech.
Before the young wizards could start complaining, Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued.
"Before you all indulge in the delicious feast and get your heads filled with food, I have a very important matter to remind you of."
"Our school has welcomed some Dementors from Azkaban. They are here on official business from the Ministry of Magic, and you are all aware that they conducted a search on the Hogwarts Express."
At this point, Dumbledore glanced at Ivan, having already heard about what happened on the train.
Just as he had expected, every time they met, Ivan always brought him something new—surprises or, rather, troubles?
Ivan was also looking at Dumbledore, recalling how Sirius had mentioned that his father was once a member of the Order of the Phoenix. From Sirius’s evasive answers, Ivan suspected that his father’s death might have something to do with this old professor.
Ivan felt as if he were in a thick fog.
What role did Dumbledore play in all of this? Why did Aisha hate Dumbledore so much?
If she truly hated him so deeply, why did she send Ivan to Hogwarts?
Numerous questions swirled in Ivan’s mind.
Their gazes met, and Dumbledore nodded slightly. Ivan immediately activated his Occlumency and looked away.
Even though Ivan didn’t sense any intrusion into his mind, he was already accustomed to it.
Dumbledore’s gaze didn’t linger on Ivan for long before he pulled it back. His expression turned serious, and his tone made everyone listen carefully.
"These Dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the school. I must remind you that no one is to leave the school while they are here. No tricks, schemes, or disguises will deceive the Dementors—not even an Invisibility Cloak!"
"Be especially cautious not to engage in any conflict with the Dementors! They are extremely dangerous, and there are many of them. A young wizard who has learned the Patronus Charm is not enough to deal with them!"
Dumbledore surveyed the crowd, seeing that they were all sitting straight and had taken his words to heart. He nodded in satisfaction.
He deliberately did not mention Ivan’s heroic act on the train or award him any points for his bravery in attacking the Dementors. He didn’t want anyone to think that such actions were commendable and to be emulated.
While Ivan’s previous actions were dangerous, they were unique, and the young wizards wouldn’t have a target to emulate.
This time, however, there were many Dementors in the school.
