Chapter 288: Kuro's Face Drops Into a Scowl
Chapter 288: Kuro's Face Drops Into a Scowl
"Fish, look at the size of this fish! There's even a shark!"
Several children shouted excitedly as they pointed at the thrashing fish on the ground. Among the wriggling catch, a shark flapped wildly.
With this much seafood, food wouldn't be an immediate concern.
"Roar!"
A colossal sea beast burst through the ocean surface, crashing down toward the town. The townspeople's faces paled instantly—this creature meant serious trouble.
"Lion Bite!"
Klah was about to leap from the window to confront the beast when the sea erupted again. A swirling waterspout shot up, its spiraling column twisting into the shape of a lion. The aquatic beast was swallowed whole by the roaring water lion.
Deng Shi, the surrounding water turned red as chunks of flesh floated inside the massive pillar. The sea monster had been shredded into meat.
"Kuromr., he's gotten even stronger! Can the Float-Float Fruit really do this?"
Klah swallowed hard. This wasn't just enough to make someone faint—it was a full-on meat grinder.
"He can't do it, but he can."
Lida bit into her apple. "His physical strength is strong enough to power any technique. Some grow strong because of their abilities, others are strong to begin with—abilities are just bonuses."
Take Garp, for example. With his incredible physical constitution, any Devil Fruit he consumed would become terrifyingly powerful.
Same with Kuro. While the Float-Float Fruit was currently his best fit, other Devil Fruits would still unleash immense strength through him—because he was formidable on his own.
"Not bad", Kuro murmured, watching bloodied seawater cascade back into the Grand Line. He nodded in satisfaction.
He'd developed this move back on Moe Island, tweaking it a bit since then. This level of destructive power worked just fine.
With homes and food secured, the townspeople had their basic needs covered.
Kuro landed gracefully, returning to his mansion to sit behind the desk with his legs casually crossed.
"Let's proceed."
He said it so casually.
"Huh?" Lida blinked.
Kuro grinned around his cigar. "I'm turning this place into a unique water-themed city. Tourism's a solid start."
Lida: "...What?"
You're a Navycommander, and you're opening a business here?
Well, technically there were no laws against the Navy running businesses.
This world's Navy was notoriously flexible—so long as you upheld Justice and fought pirates, you could do damn near anything. Even Navy officers fighting matches in the world's largest entertainment district with pirates wasn't unheard of.
Kuro had no qualms about it. This venture served his own interests too. After all, the richer the locals became, the more comfortable his own life would be. Who wanted to live in some backwater dump when you could feast on gourmet food and fine wine?
"Start by drilling a hot spring. Klah, handle that. Find people who can locate a good spring source."
"Understood, Kuromr." Klah adjusted his glasses.
He didn't mind. After arriving in West Blue, things had quieted down compared to the Grand Line. Setting up an island base was practically a vacation.
"Kuromr."
Suddenly, a maritime horn blared across the sea. Klah glanced out. "Our reinforcements and supplies are here."
In the distance, several warships approached steadily.
"Lieutenant, we've arrived at Pegasus Island."
On the Warship Deck, a determined Ensign pointed ahead. "They say pirates have taken over the place."
"Pirates mean elimination."
Beside him, a burly, even more resolute officer stared toward the island. "According to our intel, our superior officer has already arrived here. Let's make contact first. If there are many pirates, we'll eliminate them all—Justice comes first!"
"Understood, Kaslieutenant!" The Ensign saluted sharply, admiration in his eyes.
The bearded man before them was Kas himself.
After his impressive performance during the Summit War, he'd been promoted to Lieutenant. To avoid shadowing Kuromr. too much, he'd been assigned to West Blue for training.
This Pegasus Island was his first assignment. From now on, he'd march step by step to catch up with Kuromr.'s footsteps!
"Acceleration—Advance!"
Kas slammed his fist into his chest. "Triple speed!"
A glowing aura erupted from him, engulfing the ships. Deng Shi, the warships accelerated rapidly toward Pegasus Island's harbor.
"Hm?"
Kuro's eyebrow twitched as he looked out the window at Klah's words. This sudden acceleration felt eerily familiar.
No way. Don't tell me I'm that unlucky.
"Acceleration ability?" Lida asked, surprised.
"Looks like it", Klah nodded.
"Shut UP, both of you!"
Kuro shot them a glare. "Who says this has to be an Acceleration ability? There are tons of people in the world with acceleration powers! Take Dio Brando—he can accelerate so fast you won't even see him!"
As someone well-versed in 'relativity,' time stopping was practically the same as acceleration to ordinary people.
"And don't forget Bandit Waldo! He could do it too! Why assume it's Kas?!"
Lida watched Kuro's dodgy explanation calmly. "But Kuro, I haven't heard of the first guy you mentioned, but the second one—aren't they a pirate? And hasn't been around for ages?"
Pirates wouldn't be on Navy warships.
"Impossible! Definitely not Kas! I told him I was heading East Blue! Why would he come here instead?!"
Kuro cursed, turning back to the sea.
Those warships moved like ghosts, accelerating faster and faster until they neared the harbor.
Kuro's face dropped into a scowl.
Through the window, he saw the ships disembarking a certain bearded face full of resilience. Without even looking at his body, he could sense that fiery spirit from eight hundred meters away.
No doubt about it—Kas.
But how did this bastard end up here? Wasn't he supposed to return to East Blue?
"Hey, Kas! This way!"
Lida waved enthusiastically from the window, calling to Kas at the harbor.
Kas had been staring blankly at the townspeople picking up fish when a familiar voice snapped him out of it. He looked up, face twisting into complete disbelief.
"Is that... Lidamiss? Klahmr.? And Kuromr.?!"
His body trembled, eyes widening. "Does this mean Kuromr. is the base commander of Pegasus Island? No—Commander Kuro?!"
Tears streamed from his eyes as he wept with joy. "What incredible luck! What divine fortune! To serve alongside Commander Kuro again! Though I know I'm unworthy, when opportunities arise, I shall seize them! Commander Kuro, I swear I won't disappoint you!"
