Chapter 287: Seafood King Kuro
Chapter 287: Seafood King Kuro
"Speaking of which, Lida—are you familiar with Flower Country?"
After seeing Zeff off, Kuro turned to the girl beside him.
"Flower Country?"
Lida tilted her head thoughtfully. "Doesn't ring a bell. I've never been to Flower Country, and now that I think about it... I don't think I've ever set foot in West Blue either."
She frowned slightly. "West Blue..."
"What about West Blue?" Kuro asked.
Lida shook her head. "Weird. I’m sure I’ve never been here, but there’s this strange sense of déjà vu."
Kuro narrowed his eyes. "That old man Zeff mentioned you’re from the Luo family in Flower Country. Does that ring any bells?"
"But my surname is Flo. I still remember what Father and Mother looked like. We’re definitely not from Flower Country", Lida replied, puzzled.
Though her memories of her parents were hazy, she had a vague impression of them. There’s no way they could be from Flower Country.
"I see."
Kuro stared at the sea, committing the name "Luo family" to memory. He’d need to investigate eventually. Zeff wasn’t the type to lie without reason.
But for now, his priority was Pegasus Town.
All the island’s residents had gathered here. Kuro had told them to choose houses to live in—but only after cleaning up the streets first.
Most of the town’s original residents were gone, leaving empty, ownerless houses. Might as well let the newcomers settle here. Concentrate the population first to revive the town’s vibrancy. Everything else could wait.
As the island’s central hub, Pegasus Town had once supported a few thousand people in its prime. But after years of war and pirate raids, its population dwindled. Now, with island villagers filling the streets, it wasn’t as bustling as before—but at least the town was regaining some life.
People meant productivity. Once numbers grew, the town would naturally recover. These villagers had suffered under pirate oppression, barely surviving. Even after the pirates left, their villages were destroyed, rendering them unable to farm or work.
The only solution was to gather together and survive as one.
Under the town mayor’s supervision, new residents began choosing houses, cleaning streets, and slowly restoring the town’s energy.
With pirates gone and the navy establishing a base here, hope had returned. Smiles returned to everyone’s faces.
From the second-floor window of the mayor’s mansion, Kuro leaned against the sill, cigar in mouth, watching the organized chaos below. His expression softened with satisfaction.
Gathering them here was the right call. If left to their own devices, these people would either turn to piracy or starve. No other options.
"Klah, when will my subordinates arrive?"
"Today", Klah pushed his glasses up. "They should be here soon. But Mr. Kuro, that’s not the issue—we can’t sustain the current population’s food supply with just navy rations."
"It’ll take at least two months for these two or three thousand residents to become self-sufficient. You’re talking about feeding them for two or three months, Mr. Kuro. That’s no small number."
The entire island’s population had concentrated here. Feeding thousands for months required massive resources—even if his subordinates arrived, supplies would still fall short.
"Relax. Food’s not a problem when I’m around."
Kuro grinned confidently.
He flung the window open, leapt into the air, and glided low over the sea. Palm striking the water, he summoned a massive wave trailing behind him like a loyal storm.
The wave didn’t rise—it surged forward, alive and obedient. Below the surface, swirling whirlpools churned violently, making Klah’s eyes twitch from the shore.
Anyone caught in those undercurrents would face violent disorientation—or worse.
Kuro circled outward, then thrust his hands upward. A colossal tidal wave erupted skyward, towering high enough to engulf Pegasus Island entirely.
Klah frowned. His first thought: ‘If people die, they won’t need food.’
But no—Mr. Kuro wouldn’t do something so crude. He narrowed his eyes at the wave. Something was inside it.
Boom!
The wave exploded midair, scattering like rain across Pegasus Town. The downpour carried something unexpected—
Thud!
A shadow slammed against Klah’s window. He blinked. A fish clung to the glass, staring at him with wide, accusing eyes.
Rain poured. Fish rained.
Countless fish splashed onto the streets, thrashing their tails.
Klah understood. With Mr. Kuro’s ability, food was never a problem. Sea Kings, fish—anything in the sea could be summoned. No need for hunting. Just reach out with a water current and take what you need.
"What’s so great about One Piece anyway? It can’t fill your stomach! But I—" Kuro smirked, "Kuro, the Seafood King, can!"
He’d just crowned himself a title.
If he ever retired, he could start a seafood side business. All Blue boasted fish from all four seas—so could he. Mix waters from four regions, call it All Blue, add a hot spring, and attract tourists.
Better yet, hire someone named William. Rumor had it people named William were masters of steam baths.
After a hot spring and sauna, grab fresh seafood, sashimi with sake—absolutely luxurious. He could get used to this lifestyle.
Rubbing his chin, Kuro studied Pegasus Island’s shape. "Hmm... potential."
His ability to summon water and catch fish could transform the island into a water city. If he could dig up a hot spring, prosperity would follow.
Gramps gave him this quiet spot, but quiet meant bare bones. A base commander’s salary relied on taxes, not just salary.
No money, no luxury.
Back in Shelz Town, taxes rolled in effortlessly under Mongar. Same thing—might as well collect them here.
Poor and sparse population meant little revenue. Better develop this island properly.
