Chapter 287: Rebuilding Home
Chapter 287: Rebuilding Home
As winter melted into spring, the charred remains of the forest fire were now buried under a blanket of snow, transforming the once desolate mountainside into a fresh canvas. The scorched branches and leaves had returned to the earth, nourishing the soil and beginning a new cycle of life. Signs of rejuvenation were beginning to emerge from the desolation.
Naoki led a group of Pokemon along the muddy path up the mountain, their eyes scanning the surroundings. Three Pack Saddles were laden with bags of tree saplings and grass seeds, carried by their trusty Tauros. After months of preparation, they were finally ready to return to this place and begin the restoration.
At first, the Pokemon that lived in the forest were playful and energetic, eager to see their homes rebuilt. But as they drew closer and the extent of the devastation became clear, the group of Sentret grew somber, their past traumas resurfacing. They remembered that fateful night when the entire mountainside was engulfed in flames, a night of desperate escape where some Pokemon made it out alive while others perished. The thought of their fallen comrades weighed heavily on their minds.
Sensing their distress, Froslass took the initiative to comfort and encourage them.
"Mama!" The Sentret looked up at the sound of Froslass' voice.
"Ba-bu!" Budew flew up to Froslass, its eyes determined. They would help too!
"Roar!" "Gao!" The other Pokemon chimed in, eager to lend their support.
Hearing this, the rest of the Pokemon from the ranch stepped forward as well, standing behind Budew and Froslass. They assured the Sentret and their friends that they would work together to restore their home to its former glory.
The little blacksmith, forge, watched this heartwarming scene, his eyes glistening with tears. He was deeply moved by the selflessness of these Pokemon and expressed his gratitude with a heartfelt, "Wawa!"
"Chichi!" "Gumo!" "..." Sentret, Rattata, Electabuzz, and the others added their voices to forge's, thanking their companions profusely.
Naoki, who had been walking ahead, turned around with a smile on his face, witnessing the camaraderie among his Pokemon. It reminded him of a scene from the movie "Zarude & Koko," where a group of wild Pokemon banded together to protect their forest from danger. Despite their differences, when faced with a crisis, they set aside their disputes and united regardless of type or species to safeguard their shared home.
With renewed determination, the Sentret and their friends caught up with Naoki's group, and after a short while, they officially entered the mountainside territory.
"Alright, let's start here!" Naoki raised his hand, signaling for the Pokemon to halt.
He approached the Tauros and, together with Gurdurr and Throh, began unloading the bags of grass seeds and saplings from their backs, placing them on the ground. Looking out at the Pokemon assembled before him, Naoki paused for a moment before handing out packets of grass seeds, assigning tasks to each group.
"Budew, Dragonite, Scyther, Butterfree, and Pelipper, you'll be in charge of spreading the grass seeds."
"Ba-mo!" Budew eagerly stepped forward, taking a packet of seeds from Naoki's hand. The other Pokemon followed suit, each taking a packet and awaiting further instructions.
Naoki turned to the Espurr siblings. "You two can use your psychic powers to survey this area and divide it into sections. Each Pokemon will be responsible for a specific zone."
Understanding his plan, the Espurr siblings nodded and began marking out sections for Budew and the others.
Naoki then addressed Smeargle. "Smeargle, you can use your paint to mark the ground and help everyone identify their areas."
Smeargle nodded vigorously, ready to assist.
Naoki looked at the remaining Pokemon. "Throh and I will plant these saplings. Diglett, you and Gurdurr will work together. Diglett, use your Dig attack to create holes, and Gurdurr will plant the saplings. Can you do that?"
"Chichi!" Diglett stood tall, proud to be of assistance.
"Great! Let's get to work, everyone!" With Naoki's command, the Pokemon dispersed in different directions.
Butterfree and Dragonite flew at low altitudes, scattering the grass seeds evenly across the land below. Naoki observed their work with a satisfied nod. Once they were done, he would ask Leafeon to use her powers to accelerate the growth of the grass and saplings.
For now, it was time for him to lend a hand as well.
Just as Naoki was about to grab a shovel to start digging holes for the saplings, he noticed the remaining Pokemon looking at him expectantly.
Naoki: "..."
Froslass: "Mama?" They wanted to help too!
Naoki thought for a moment and then came up with an excellent idea. "We need a cheerleading squad!"
His eyes scanned the Pokemon who were waiting for their assignments. "Froslass, Aurorus, Rattata, Jynx, Smelt, Burmy, Lickylicky, Jumpluff, and Breloom, you will form our cheerleading squad and boost everyone's morale!"
"Wawa..." Forge felt that this task was too easy for him; he wanted to contribute with some physical labor.
"Mama!"
The Lilligant and Aurorus nodded eagerly as well.
Glaceon could only sigh helplessly and reluctantly agreed, even though shouting and cheering loudly was not really her forte...
It was truly a difficult task for Glaceon.
However, seeing how everyone else was working diligently, she couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
So, Glaceon pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind.
She followed behind the socially awkward Froslass and Aurorus, wandering among the busy Pokemon.
When they reached the area where the Noivern was working, Froslass tilted her head back and shouted loudly, "Mama!!!"
Aurorus also chimed in softly, "Nyu!"
Glaceon could only muster a meek, "Bu'i..."
"Mama?" Froslass turned to Glaceon, shaking her head to indicate that her voice was too soft for Noivern to hear. Then, she demonstrated, "Ma—Mama!!!"
"Bu'i?!" Glaceon was startled by the loudness.
Froslass and Aurorus looked at her expectantly.
Glaceon opened her mouth but could only manage a soft, "Bu'i..."
"Mama!" Froslass nodded, encouraging her. "Mama! That's it! Shout it out!"
Glaceon's face reddened, and in a fit of determination, she shouted, "Bu—'i!"
"Mama!" Froslass was satisfied.
And strangely enough, after shouting like that, Glaceon didn't feel like it was that difficult after all.
With Froslass leading the cheer squad, they continued to boost the morale of the next Pokemon.
"I think I just heard Glaceon's voice," Naoki said, pausing from planting saplings with Noivern and looking up in surprise at a particular direction.
Noivern also looked in that direction and nodded, "Gao!" She had heard it too.
"I can assure you, that's the loudest I've ever heard Glaceon shout," Naoki commented.
Glaceon must have really wanted to contribute something for these surviving Pokemon, going so far as to muster such a loud cheer!
Noivern agreed with a nod, "Gao!"
Naoki finished planting that sapling and then moved a few meters away with Noivern to plant the next one.
"I wonder when the Paritia League will start their work on restoring the ecology of the back mountain," Naoki mused.
The area of the back mountain was vast, and their strength was limited; they couldn't possibly cover it all. So, the rest of the area would have to be left to the Paritia League.
Even though their work schedules might overlap, it wouldn't be a problem.
At most, they could come back later after the Paritia League finished planting the trees and help accelerate the growth of those trees.
Time ticked by, and Noivern's team worked efficiently. In less than two hours, they had finished scattering all the grass seeds that Naoki had purchased.
Naoki's team was also almost done planting the saplings, enough to form a small forest.
In addition to these ordinary saplings, Naoki also had a separate package.
When he opened it, it was filled with Berry seeds.
The restored back mountain needed food sources, so Naoki intended to plant these Berry seeds throughout the forest for the hungry Bunnelby and their friends.
Just as Naoki was about to start planting the Berry trees, the Noivern beside him suddenly turned her head as if she had noticed something. She looked past Naoki towards a particular direction.
Naoki turned and saw several figures that had appeared there without him noticing.
Some of them wore blue work uniforms, holding iron spades, and were accompanied by Pokemon like Diglett and Jaws.
Naoki watched as the Diglett were using Dig to create holes in the ground.
Then, the people in blue uniforms began planting the saplings they had brought into the holes.
A short distance away from them were a few more people.
On the left was a woman in a white uniform with a nurse's cap and long pink hair.
In the middle was a woman dressed in a sleek police uniform, with a Growlithe by her side, surveying the surroundings as if assessing the situation.
On the right was a woman with her hands behind her back, standing with an elegant posture and a gentle expression as she chatted with her companions.
Naoki froze for a moment as he recognized them.
They were... Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, and Yasu?
At the same time, the other Nurse Joy also noticed Naoki from afar and exclaimed in surprise, "Oh? Isn't that Mr. Naoki from Naoki Ranch over there?"
Hearing this, Officer Jenny and Yasu immediately turned to look.
From a distance, Yasu recognized the figure she had met a few times before.
—It was that talented trainer who chose to stay in the countryside and manage a ranch despite having the skills of a champion!
A rare talent! Yasu's eyes lit up, and a warm smile appeared on her face. She took a step forward and walked towards Naoki.
Seeing this, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny followed suit.
"This news will get out eventually," Naoki thought. "Might as well use this opportunity to boost Tsareena's reputation and gain more followers."
As he opened his mouth to speak, Nurse Joy beside him suddenly exclaimed as if she had noticed something.
"That Pokemon!"
Following her gaze, Yansu and Yasu also spotted a very unique Pokemon among the group.
It had an enormous head and emanated a faint blue aura, floating in the air with its feet off the ground.
Yansu was taken aback for a moment, surprised to see yet another unfamiliar Pokemon.
The Pokemon seemed to sense her gaze and turned its head slightly, its eyes meeting hers in midair.
The next second, Yansu saw a gentle smile appear on the Pokemon's face.
Before she could react, she heard Nurse Joy exclaim in a loud voice, "Oh my! Could that Pokemon be... the Bountiful King?!"
Upon being recognized, Tsareena turned its gaze towards the humans, sensing the faith they held in it.
With Nurse Joy's reminder, Officer Jenny, who had been serving in Glaseado Town, immediately recalled the legend.
It was the tale of the Bountiful King from Naoki Ranch, a Pokemon said to bless the crops and flowers of those who worshiped it, ensuring a bountiful harvest and vibrant blooms.
Many residents of the town had purchased statues of the Bountiful King to display in their homes.
And indeed, the town had enjoyed a year of favorable weather and abundant crops.
Mayor Thomas even commissioned a massive statue of the Bountiful King, which was proudly displayed in the town's celebration square.
And now... the Bountiful King had appeared here! Officer Jenny was astonished.
Noticing the expressions on Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny's faces, Yasu furrowed her brow in confusion.
Had she missed something? Pondering this, she asked, "Bountiful King?"
Nurse Joy, already excited, nodded vigorously. "Yes! It's the legendary agricultural deity said to bring bountiful harvests and flourishing flowers. Many residents of Glaseado Town keep statues of it in their homes, and I even bought one from the store to display in the Pokemon Center!"
Hearing this, Yasu's expression showed her interest.
An agricultural deity? That sounded fascinating!
And from the looks of it, had Naoki managed to capture it?!
Naoki was not surprised that Tsareena had been recognized, and he spoke up at the right moment.
"Indeed, it is Tsareena. To be honest, the reason I came to the back mountain today was to ask for its help in restoring this place to its original state."
"Restore it to its original state?" Yasu was taken aback.
Naoki nodded. "Yes, Tsareena possesses the ability to make plants grow instantly. With its help, it will only take a moment to return the back mountain to its former glory."
Hearing this, Yasu wore a look of disbelief.
To be honest, she found it hard to believe, as she had never witnessed such a thing.
Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy were equally stunned.
They had encountered Pokemon strong enough to shatter rocks and create sandstorms that ravaged forests, but they had never seen a Pokemon capable of transforming seeds and saplings into full-grown trees in an instant.
To bring forth an entire forest in the back mountain...
Such a powerful ability...
While the Bountiful King was known to bless crops and ensure their growth, could it truly accomplish this feat for such a vast area?
