Chapter 286: So We Should Thank You?
Chapter 286: So We Should Thank You?
The short and plump Auror captain, after a brief moment of surprise, questioned sternly.
"These Dementors were sent to investigate the Hogwarts Express and search for fugitives. Why did you drive them away and kill them? You're obstructing the Ministry of Magic's search operation!"
The two Aurors looked visibly displeased. As accompanying law enforcement, they were responsible for overseeing the Dementors' search mission. Not only had the mission not been completed, but a conflict had also erupted. They would likely face reprimand upon their return.
Hermione and Ron looked at Ivan with concern. They had initially thought the Dementors had attacked the train and were happy that Ivan had defeated so many of them. They didn't realize the Dementors were sent by the Ministry of Magic.
Facing the two Aurors' accusations, Ivan remained calm and replied.
"Sir, I was about to report that we were attacked by Dementors. Harry-Potter was injured and fell unconscious. I had no choice but to use a Patronus to repel them."
As he spoke, Ivan stepped aside so the two Aurors could see the unconscious Harry.
Hearing that someone was injured, the short and plump Auror captain's expression changed. He turned and noticed Ivan's pale, unconscious friend lying behind him. He hurried over to check and found that it was indeed due to the Dementors. The captain also noticed the lightning-shaped scar on Harry's forehead, his heart sinking. He asked hopefully,
"You said his name is Harry-Potter? Could it be the same Harry-Potter who defeated the Dark Lord?"
"Exactly, that very Harry-Potter! The Dementors that came in to search attacked Harry, so I acted to kill it. The other Dementors then swarmed around like mad."
Ivan explained and then looked at the young wizards gathered at the door, addressing them.
"If you don't believe me, you can ask everyone!"
The young wizards, who had just been frightened by the Dementors, were now indignant. No one liked these evil creatures that drained happiness, so they all rallied in support of Ivan, venting their anger.
"Hals is right! Those Dementors were absolutely despicable!"
"The Dementor that searched our compartment wouldn't leave. It was clearly thinking about attacking us. Luckily, Hals drove them away."
"I'll tell my dad, and he'll lock those Dementors in Azkaban."
"Lock them in Azkaban? They'll lock themselves in?"
The two Aurors, seeing the agitated crowd, could only laugh bitterly. They had come to interrogate, but now they were being interrogated.
The short and plump Auror captain inwardly cursed the Dementor that had turned to ash. Before the mission, he had specifically warned these mindless creatures to be cautious and not to harm the students on the train. Yet, this still happened, and it had to be the famous Harry-Potter!
If word got out that Dementors had attacked Harry-Potter due to their negligence, they would be buried in complaints the next day.
"Mr. Hals, do you have any further questions?" Ivan asked.
The short and plump Auror captain hesitated, then said, somewhat resentfully, "No, no, you did well, driving away those out-of-control Dementors."
"I only did what was necessary", Ivan said modestly, his Order of Merlin medal seeming to shine brighter.
The two Aurors then noticed Ivan's medal and recognized him. No wonder this young wizard could drive away so many Dementors.
Realizing what had happened, the two Aurors exchanged a wry smile. They decided to gather the scattered Dementors and return to the Ministry of Magic to explain the situation. Such a major error would likely earn them more than just a scolding.
Just as they were about to use Apparition to leave, they heard Ivan's voice behind them.
"Mr. Aurors, I believe this incident was entirely due to the chaotic and evil nature of the Dementors. I will write a letter to the Ministry of Magic to explain the situation."
The short and plump Auror captain turned back, looking at Ivan with surprise and gratitude.
"Thank you, Hals."
Thanks to Ivan's reminder, the two Aurors realized they could shift the blame entirely onto the Dementors.
What did the Dementors think? They couldn't speak, could only express simple ideas, and no one would listen to a Dementor's complaints.
With this in mind, the two Aurors quickly vanished using Apparition.
As the new professor, Lupin took charge, calming the young wizards at the door and sending them back to their compartments. He then looked at Ivan, who had returned to his seat, calmly reading a book as if nothing had happened, with a peculiar expression.
Lupin had witnessed the entire incident and was initially worried that Ivan might be taken away for questioning. However, Ivan had skillfully deflected the Aurors' accusations and even earned their gratitude.
Lupin gained a new appreciation for Ivan's quick thinking.
Recalling the previous two Defense Against the Dark Arts professors who had been exposed by Ivan, Lupin felt a headache coming on. He doubted how long his Werewolf Wizard identity would remain hidden.
Without the Dementors, the stopped train soon started moving again, the bright train whistle echoing in their ears, and thick white smoke billowing from the chimney.
While continuing to read his Potions book, Ivan also spared a thought for the system bar.
He had expected to receive an achievement for driving away a group of Dementors in front of so many people, but unfortunately, nothing happened.
He wondered what the criteria for achievements were. Was it because he hadn't done enough?
After a moment's reflection, Ivan dismissed the thought. While obtaining achievements to gather five legendary points was crucial, it wasn't the most important thing right now.
Acquiring the Time Turner and completing the potion's improvement were the top priorities.
