Chapter 286: Flame Leader, Charcoal Companion!
Chapter 286: Flame Leader, Charcoal Companion!
As the flames rose from Charcoal Companion's body, Jinghe's vision finally revealed the Pokedex information of Charcoal Companion.
【Charcoal Companion】
【Type: Fire】
【Ability: Flame Body】
【Known Moves: Paralyze, Glare, Spark, Scare, Clean Smoke, Flame Cyclone, Phantom Flame, Night Shadow, Charged Flame Assault, Burn Clean, Smoke Spray, Flame Jet.】
【Mood: Joy, Confidence (Once I fully unlock my potential, I'll make all enemies tremble in fear!)】
【Status: Excellent (The flames within it are overflowing, almost ready to burst forth!)】
【Friendship: 80 (It senses the kindness in your Wave Guide!)】
Wow.
Charcoal Companion has almost mastered all the moves it can learn through level-up.
And for moves that require learning or a move tutor, it knows Flame Jet.
To develop its move pool, it will likely require a significant investment of time, energy, and resources.
But it seems manageable.
It doesn't seem as bad as imagined.
Aside from the potential expense of charcoal, the rest doesn't seem too unbearable.
Among the moves Charcoal Companion knows, several overlap with Jinghe's own Gramps.
For instance, moves like Scare, Phantom Flame, and Night Shadow.
Since Charcoal Companion is essentially a life form attached to charcoal, it makes sense that it exhibits some characteristics of Ghost-type Pokemon.
Gramps might be able to help it refine these moves further.
Additionally, Charcoal Companion seems to possess not only Wave Guide energy but also Psychic energy.
This is understandable.
After all, Charcoal Companion, whether it evolves into Ember Blade Demon or Crimson Armor Knight, can learn numerous Psychic-type moves.
"What's going on here?" Jinghe asked, glancing around.
The old man smiled slightly and replied, "You wouldn't know this. In the breeding houses run by breeders, there are always a few Pokemon like this serving as leaders to help manage and resolve conflicts among the Pokemon in the breeding house."
For instance, if two Pokemon in the breeding house have a dispute, these Pokemon would step in to mediate.
Jinghe looked at Charcoal Companion.
This little guy is similar to the Wartortle that Ash once fostered at Professor Oak's lab, right? A leader among troublemakers, the Flame Leader?
"Guka?"
Suddenly, Charcoal Companion lifted its head, and a wave of Psychic energy intertwined with Wave Guide power spread out.
The next moment, its legs bent slightly, and flames appeared beneath its feet, instantly enveloping its entire body.
Like a cannonball, it dashed towards the lake within the breeding house.
Boom!!
A blazing flash of fire vanished before their eyes, leaving a charred brown mark on the ground.
【Charged Flame Assault: A Fire-type move with 50 power. After using this move, the user's Speed increases by one stage.】
Jinghe's expression was slightly taken aback.
Is this Charged Flame Assault for real? Are you sure it's not Flame Charge? Don't think I didn't witness the real Flame Charge during the Quartz Conference.
Useless Pokedex!
【Pokedex: ??】
"Let's go and take a look," the old man said.
The two of them headed in the direction of Charcoal Companion.
Upon reaching the lakeside, they saw a Claw Crab and a Carapace (Dajia) facing off against each other on the grassy shore.
The giant claws of Claw Crab were aimed at Carapace, its expression stern.
Carapace, however, didn't back down. The thick, spike-covered claws on its head clashed repeatedly, creating a "bang bang bang" sound filled with menace.
Between the two confronting Pokemon, a round, purple Berry lay motionless.
From the looks of it, these two seemed to be in a dispute over the ownership of the Berry.
Jinghe somewhat understood the situation.
So, Charcoal Companion's Wave Guide and Psychic abilities were trained to detect conflicts early on? Facing the two tense Pokemon, Charcoal Companion strode forward with a serious expression.
Carapace, being a Bug-type, was one thing, but Claw Crab was a Water-type Pokemon.
Jinghe opened her mouth to remind them, but seeing the old man's cheerful expression, she held back.
The next moment, Charcoal Companion reached between the two Pokemon, and upon seeing it, both Carapace and Claw Crab immediately retracted their claws.
Moreover, Jinghe noticed a hint of awkward smiles on the faces of the two Pokemon.
Charcoal Companion spoke in a deep voice.
"Guka!" (Give me some face!)
Carapace and Claw Crab looked at each other and nodded repeatedly.
Question marks appeared above Jinghe's head.
Is its Intimidation that strong?
Crack—
Charcoal Companion picked up the Berry from the ground, applied a little force, and split it in half.
It handed one half to Claw Crab and the other to Carapace.
This division was fair and resolved the conflict.
Then, Carapace and Claw Crab each split their half of the Berry into two again and gave half to Charcoal Companion.
Jinghe: ???
Charcoal Companion didn't refuse, nodding in satisfaction. After accepting the Berries, it patted Claw Crab and Carapace on their bodies, expressing praise.
"Guka!" The sound echoed as the Coalomass received affirmation from the Claw Crab and Carapace, who then revealed their cheerful smiles.
One retreated into the lake, while the other returned to the woods.
"Respectful Return?" Jinghe murmured.
The Nurturing House elder spoke up, "This is a sign of respect for Coalomass. If it doesn't accept, neither Claw Crab nor Carapace will eat."
He added, "It's one of our traditions here."
'What a unique tradition,' Jinghe thought to himself.
Coalomass walked back and offered a smile to Jinghe, handing him a quarter of the Berry.
"Guka!"
"For me?"
"Guka!" Coalomass nodded.
"Thank you," Jinghe said, taking the Berry without hesitation and popping it into his mouth.
As he bit into it, juice splattered, and a sweet aroma instantly filled his mouth.
"Mmm, sweet!"
Seeing this, Coalomass smiled and tossed the other half of the Berry into its own mouth.
The elder looked on with surprise at Jinghe's casual consumption of the Berry.
'You eat the Berry with such practiced ease, it's almost heartbreaking.'
Humans could eat Pokemon Berries, but it was rare to see someone as comfortable as Jinghe.
The elder sighed inwardly.
The fact that Coalomass shared the Berry with Jinghe indicated that it truly acknowledged him.
Finally, Jinghe followed the elder back to the wooden house of the Nurturing House, with Coalomass strutting behind him, exuding confidence like a returning king.
"Have you made your choice?" Minjiang, waiting outside, spotted them and noticed Coalomass following Jinghe.
"Coalomass?"
"Yes," Jinghe confirmed with a nod.
Minjiang looked to the elder for confirmation.
The elder hesitated, reluctant to let go, "Rest assured, it's the most powerful one."
Hearing this, Minjiang laughed triumphantly and patted Jinghe's shoulder, "Haha, I knew it! Choosing the Troublemaker was the right decision, right?"
Jinghe couldn't help but give him a sideways glance.
'Thank you very much.'
If it weren't for his suggestion to choose a Troublemaker, they wouldn't have picked the most well-behaved one among the troublemakers.
But, to be fair, aside from Coalomass possibly having higher charcoal demands, Jinghe was quite satisfied with the choice.
It was confident and capable.
The only slightly troublesome aspect might be the challenge of finding the Celebration Armor and Cursed Armor for Coalomass's evolution in the future.
Perhaps they could ask the Gigaforg to craft a set? After all, their family's Gigaforg had maxed out its forging skills.
As long as it didn't involve electronics or circuitry, they could make almost anything.
Of course, the availability of materials was a prerequisite.
"Come visit us again when you have the chance," the elder waved goodbye to the pair, especially Coalomass.
After leaving the Nurturing House, Minjiang finally voiced the question he had for Jinghe.
"Teacher Jinghe, are you interested in switching to the Battle Class next semester?"
"Battle Class?"
Jinghe was taken aback but quickly shook his head decisively.
"Next time, for sure."
With that, he left with Coalomass in tow.
Battle Class? He could teach the Battle Class, but it would be too time-consuming. He might even have to temporarily leave the school or Johto for personal matters.
If he switched to the Battle Class, he wouldn't have as much free time.
Upon returning home, Jinghe immediately called out to the little ones.
"Woof?" Ice Nine-Tails looked at Coalomass, wagging its tail and tilting its head in confusion.
"This is our new partner, Coalomass," Jinghe introduced.
He then turned to Coalomass, "They are..."
"Guka!"
Before Jinghe could finish, the confident Coalomass had already greeted Gramps, Ice Nine-Tails, Gigaforg, Hachubo, and Bear Apprentice.
'Wow, is Coalomass the legendary "Extroverted One"? A social butterfly?'
A social butterfly? Gramps seemed to take a liking to Coalomass.
Although Coalomass emanated heat, and Gramps was all about the cold, he felt they would get along well.
After all, Coalomass was also half-ghost.
So, another one he had to worry about? Could it survive in the Pokemon world?
Jinghe wondered, 'Am I leaving behind a bunch of troublemakers in the Pokemon world?'
Soon, with Coalomass's experience in coordinating Pokemon relationships at the Nurturing House, it quickly established a good rapport with Jinghe's Pokemon.
Even Lotadex and the Servant Siblings acknowledged it.
Even the introverted and completely opposite Ice Nine-Tails showed no signs of rejection towards Coalomass.
If Coalomass was the "Extroverted One," then Ice Nine-Tails was the "Introverted One."
One ice, one fire, one introverted, one extroverted—a perfect balance.
"Hengga~~"
"Guka~~"
As the big brother, Gramps took Coalomass around to familiarize it with the surroundings.
Feeling the warm atmosphere inside the house, Jinghe took a deep breath and sighed, "This winter... it seems we'll finally make it through."
