Chapter 286: Battle
Chapter 286: Battle
In the region known as the Lazaran Wilds, countless Lazarans, yearning for a peaceful and stable life, have made their homes here. Unfortunately, the greedy bandits have never shown any intention of leaving them alone.
Whether it's the savage Dothraki from the north or the Slave Cities to the west, they have long used this area as their hunting grounds, wantonly insulting, oppressing, and plundering the Lazarans, whom they disdainfully call the Sheeplike People.
This time was no different. With the support of a large number of archers, the Dothraki cavalry used lassos to remove the wooden stakes from under the walls. They then quickly whipped the captives they had previously taken to build a small earthen ramp at the base of the town's wooden walls. Despite the arrows, spears, and even stones raining down from the walls, these efforts were futile. The earthen ramp was rapidly growing to the same height as the low wooden walls, and soon the cavalry would be able to ride up to the ramparts.
But the bandits, who had been jubilantly cheering for their impending easy victory, suddenly let out cries of alarm. They saw two figures floating in the sky. Some of the more daring tried to shoot arrows at the floating figures, but the man simply waved his small wooden wand, and the arrows flew back to strike their owners.
"Alright, let's finish this. Leave none of these bandits alive", Liam said, waving his wand. Bolts of electricity shot from its tip, striking the Dothraki below. What frightened the Dothraki the most was that these bolts, after turning one person into charred remains, would scatter and electrocute those around them on their horses. At the same time, Rose Crystal released a dense shower of tiny purple Crystal Spikes.
This mythic aerial assault completely shattered the bandits' morale, especially when they realized their counterattacks were ineffective.
In a panic, they abandoned their captives, loot, and even their weapons, fleeing in all directions. But even the swiftest steeds could not match the speed of flight, and the Dothraki were eventually all killed by Liam's lightning or Rose Crystal's Crystal Spikes.
This was less a battle and more a one-sided massacre. The Dothraki bandits, under the assault of magic, were as vulnerable as the people they had wantonly burned, killed, and plundered.
After eliminating the last fleeing bandit, Liam landed at the town gate. Unfortunately, the townspeople did not speak English, so Liam flew back to where he had left Lata to bring her for translation.
Lata was still trembling when she got off the broom, as flying had been too thrilling for her. Upon seeing the ground covered with Dothraki corpses, she first gasped in shock, then burst into tears.
Liam understood her feelings, so he waited for her to release her emotions before interrupting her cries and asking her to translate for him and the people on the town walls. To his surprise, she stopped crying, knelt before him, and kissed his shoes, singing in a melody-like tone.
Rose Crystal watched this scene with a surprised look, which made Liam feel a bit awkward. However, seeing how serious Lata was, he feared that stopping her might violate some custom and cause a negative outcome. So he stood still until she finished and stood up.
"Master", Lata's opening words startled Liam, but Rose Crystal, in a cool tone, said, "Big Brother, you should accept her. After all, in this era, a parentless orphan like her will face many dangers. If you're not comfortable with it, she can follow me."
In the end, Lata became Rose Crystal's servant, a decision that satisfied all three of them.
Lata then shouted something to the people at the town gate, and the door quickly opened. A group of people emerged and formed two lines on either side of the road, then knelt before Liam.
"What's going on?" Liam asked Lata, surprised.
"They are just showing their gratitude to their savior. After all, no one has ever been willing to help us like you, Master", Lata said with a bitter smile.
After the people of the town finished clearing the battlefield, it was already evening. During this time, Liam performed the ritual to pacify the undead and received the gift of the undead, learning the Dothraki language and a low-level form of High Valyrian used by the Dothraki. As the ethereal figures of the undead in the air gradually transformed from their grotesque forms to peaceful ones, they bid farewell to their loved ones and dispersed into the world. Everyone looked at Liam with a mixture of awe and reverence.
This admiration made the town elders open up to Liam, sharing all the information they had. The elders introduced him to the three slave cities to the west—Astapor, Yunkai, and Meereen—that frequently raided them for slaves, as well as the Dothraki who came from the north to plunder and kill. According to the elders, the Lazarans, centered around their towns, were constantly under threat from these two groups.
Finally, when the elder mentioned that there was an Ice Wall to the north of the western continent, stretching nearly five hundred kilometers long and over two hundred meters high, Liam realized that he was in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.
However, having only read a basic plot summary in his previous life, Liam knew nothing more than the fact that the Dothraki warlords to the north were the husband of Daenerys Targaryen. Given the slow spread of information in ancient times, few people knew what was happening a thousand miles away. The only information about the timeline was that the royal family in the western continent had changed about a dozen years ago.
Based on his previous experiences entering other worlds, Liam suspected that the story was about to begin. But he had no idea what the Lazarans were, and they might not even exist in the TV series.
That evening, the town held a grand bonfire celebration to mark their survival. The festivities continued well into the night before finally coming to an end. Liam and Rose Crystal were then invited to stay in the best house in town.
Unfortunately, even the best room in Liam's eyes was small, dirty, and rudimentary. So, after closing the door, Liam took out a sleeping bag from his Dimensional Bag and promptly fell asleep. Rose Crystal sat quietly by his side.
Upon falling asleep, the first thing Liam did was try to enter the Emerald Dream of this world. If he were in Westeros to the west, he wouldn't attempt this, as the Old Gods there would make it akin to intruding into someone's home.
After casting the spell, Liam found himself in a gray, misty version of the town he was in. There were tiny white lights scattered throughout the town.
"Does this world not have an Emerald Dream?" He recalled the knowledge Rogen had imparted: not every world has an Emerald Dream. It only exists when the Supernatural Power in that world reaches a certain level. If the Supernatural Power is too weak, the world will only have a Spirit Realm where all forces are mixed and chaotic, rather than distinct realms like the Emerald Dream formed by the power of Life or the Realm of the Dead formed by the power of Death.
This situation proved that the Supernatural Power in this world was indeed very weak. After calling on Rose Crystal, whose soul was closely linked to his, the two of them began to explore the town in this Spirit Realm.
The tiny white lights in the town represented the town's inhabitants, while the rest of the town was shrouded in a gray mist. It seemed that tonight's search might be rather uneventful.
