Chapter 284: The Aftermath, a Minor Inconvenience
Chapter 284: The Aftermath, a Minor Inconvenience
A delightful event had just transpired.
The couple walked hand in hand, the enchanting blush on Mila's face gradually fading.
She was in high spirits now, tightly holding Rod's arm close to her.
This time, the two were more in sync than before, and the experience was even better, yet it still made their hearts race.
Hmm, what consequences? It was just an excuse to take advantage.
No, it's me taking advantage.
She glanced at Rod, and he seemed just as delighted as she was.
So it wasn't taking advantage.
Speaking of which, Rod's jealous behavior earlier was so adorable, and she loved it.
Rod was not only happy about their recent intimacy but also relishing the current sensation.
He could feel his arm pressed against something soft.
Come to think of it, Mila, who used to be so concerned about holding hands, now seemed less sensitive to this more intimate contact in Rod's eyes, which was puzzling.
Anyway, it felt comfortable.
Rod withdrew his hand, took two quick steps forward, turned, and blocked Mila's path, causing her to bump into his embrace, which he then held tightly.
Mila looked up at him, "What's wrong? Why so sudden?"
Rod kissed her forehead, "Nothing, I just felt like hugging you again."
Should he tell her that he was happy because he remembered introducing himself to the Sky Horse Trio and that it made him feel good?
That would be too coquettish.
...
"That's it. The task of clearing the rat swarm is mostly done. The fields are filled with dead rats now. Remember to organize people to deal with them tomorrow!"
"To be safe, we'll stay an extra day until you're certain the task is complete."
The last sentence was spoken by Mila, but it was Rod's idea.
He also planned to release the Shadow Wolf and Stone Beetle to work hard and catch as many rats as possible.
Jasper sincerely said, "Thank you so much! Thank you for saving our entire village!"
Mila smiled, "This is what Archmages do."
Commoners provide compensation, and Archmages use magic to solve commoners' problems.
This relationship has naturally evolved over the past hundred years since the establishment of the guild.
Most Archmages and commoners are content with this arrangement, so Archmages are reluctant to abandon tasks, and commoners are unwilling to delay compensation.
Currently, the prevailing thought is that everyone is striving to survive, so they support each other, take what they need, strive to improve each other's lives, and enhance their own in the process.
After the couple returned to their room to rest, Jasper's wife sat down to discuss matters with her husband.
"Is our compensation too low? I asked around, and these two are very powerful Archmages who frequently appear in Mage Weekly."
"I know. Even without mentioning mana, their magic is clearly that of powerful Archmages." Jasper sighed, "But the compensation has been set, and the village's situation..."
"At least let's find a way to express our gratitude. With so much rat ash, we can save a lot on fertilizer."
"I'll think about it. I'll give it some more thought."
...
"What do you want to do?"
"Help you scrub your back."
Mila was in the bathroom, Rod was outside, and the bathroom door was half-open.
In response to Rod's enthusiasm, she gave him a professional fake smile, "No, need, to."
Rod reached out to stop her from closing the door and said with a pained expression:
"Alas, do you know that trust between people is crucial, especially between lovers? With this trust, we can reduce suspicion and misunderstandings, allowing us to communicate more openly.
With this, we can build a deeper and more stable relationship..."
Here he was again. Mira found it amusing, but her expression remained calm and collected. "Get to the point."
"The point is, even if you don't want to bathe with me, at least invite me so I can feel your trust! It's no big deal if you reject me."
"Oh?" Mira asked with interest. "Then, Rod, do you want to bathe with me?"
Rod rubbed his hands together, his smile rippling like the surface of a pond disturbed by a pebble. In an exaggerated tone, he said, "It's a~ diffi~cult~ request~!"
Bang! The bathroom door closed, almost hitting Rod's nose.
He still couldn't blend in. If Mira was as carefree as Elusa in this regard...
Thinking of Elusa, Rod shook his head. It was better to leave it as it is. This was good enough for now.
Worm wasn't called out today, so Rod took the opportunity to meditate while Mira bathed.
Rod had memorized the yellow markings on the Dragon Pit's walls, which he recognized as the symbol of the Mountain Wyvern.
With a little more mana accumulation, he would be able to attempt a summoning soon.
But it definitely couldn't be done in the city.
Time passed quickly during his training. In the blink of an eye, Mira had finished her bath and returned.
After Rod also took a bath, he returned to take over the task of drying Mira's hair. This time, he was much more skilled, efficiently blow-drying her hair without any fuss.
Once done, he gently caressed her smooth, white, long hair. "I think we got the order wrong. From now on, I should bathe first, then I can help you with your hair from the start."
Mira looked at him through the mirror, her eyes as gentle as water. "Okay."
She wished she could spend every day like this with him.
"It's your turn." Mira stood up and let Rod sit down. After a moment's thought, she said, "It seems like I should blow-dry your hair first too."
"That's true, but you'll have to endure some discomfort then."
"It's not that uncomfortable," they bantered back and forth for a while. When they finally snapped out of it, they realized they had been seriously discussing such a trivial matter.
Rod and Mira looked at each other and couldn't help but laugh.
She was already thinking about what their future life together would be like, even in such insignificant matters.
The two of them cuddled and kissed for a while before finally getting into bed to sleep.
"Where's Worm?"
Rod kept his eyes open as he lied, "It was scared by us during the day and doesn't want to come here until we return to the guild. Let's just sleep like this; I promise nothing will happen to you."
"Trust between people is gone."
Mira rolled her eyes. This guy seemed to have a habit of holding something while sleeping, but she didn't believe nothing would happen.
She looked around and finally decided to bring her suitcase up.
"Don't put that here. I'll call Worm instead."
The suitcase was hard and Rod didn't want to be woken up by it.
"Hmm~ Isn't it scared?"
"It's not scared anymore."
As Worm, the tall wall, appeared, Rod lay down, and Mira reached out to him again.
Rod grabbed her small hand and placed it against his lips. "No more magic. Let's have a goodnight kiss instead."
"Okay." Mira smiled sweetly, tucking her hair behind her ear and leaning down to kiss him.
After Mira lay back down, Rod felt something was amiss.
Finally, he sat up, leaning over Worm, and kissed Mira again.
