Chapter 283: Wrapping Up
Chapter 283: Wrapping Up
"I heard Azure Sky Horse has side businesses too, like how our guild runs a tavern," Rod whispered to Mila, seeking information.
"Yes, but they probably call it a bar or nightclub, right?" Mila tried to gently inform Rod of Azure Sky Horse's true nature.
"The staff there includes people like them and beauties like Jenny. Besides serving drinks, they also provide... services that fulfill customers' emotional needs through communication and companionship."
Rod pondered over Mila's words, shocked. "That's not just..."
He didn't finish the last part, feeling that this industry was somewhat borderline.
Azure Sky Horse's side business brought in substantial revenue, and with their guild's strength and reputation, they never lacked for tasks.
Moreover, unlike Fairy Tail, they didn't cause trouble every day, so their guild was incredibly wealthy.
Otherwise, how could they afford those super cool, flying Magic Blast Ships?
These three before him might seem a bit eccentric to Rod, but their skills were undeniable.
After accepting Rod's conditions, the trio immediately got to work.
First was Hepeki, who waved his hand and summoned a golden, semi-transparent keyboard and screen.
His fingers danced across the keys, bringing up several maps, and finally, he locked onto the most suitable one nearby.
Next, he likely used a search and sense-type magic, marking small red dots with numbers on the map.
"These are the densest rat gatherings. I'll send the locations to you. Lotus, you take the odd-numbered ones, and If, the even-numbered ones."
A progress bar appeared above Lotus and If's heads, and when it filled up, they both responded, "Received!"
The two sprang into action, like they had navigation, and headed straight for their destinations, each placing a hand on the ground.
In Lotus's area, over a dozen rats fled their hole listlessly, but just a few steps out, they collapsed.
On If's side, several rats emerged from their hole, only to be covered in snow and frozen into ice sculptures.
The pair wasted no time and rushed to the next location.
Hepeki had finished his task and, with nothing else to do, decided to explain to the astonished Rod and Mila.
"My magic is 'Ancient Manuscript,' as you can see, I can compress and send information to my companions.
Lotus uses Air Magic, which can drain oxygen from a specific area, so those rats suffocated as soon as they fled.
If uses Snow Magic to lower the temperature inside the rat holes, forcing the rats out, and then freezing them."
Mila praised, "Such a well-coordinated team effort."
"Of course," Hepeki said proudly, "we're the best team in the guild. If Mr. Night was here, it would be perfect."
Rod inwardly questioned if Hepeki had targeted him initially.
Why did these people seem unaffected when receiving information, while he had been in so much pain?
He figured it was probably a matter of data volume.
Could he overload their brains with useless information and kill them? Rod suddenly found this magic troublesome.
Perhaps it required the recipient's consent for transmission? Besides Ancient Manuscript, the magic Rod found most troublesome was Lotus's Air Magic.
"Draining oxygen is too unfair! If I became his opponent, I might suffocate without even realizing it."
"There should be some restrictions, like the casting range and activation speed."
Mila spoke, "Even without these, as long as we defeat him before we suffocate."
Rod gestured with his fingers, "Or create some air ourselves."
Hepeki found these two a little scary, "Why do we have to assume we're enemies..."
And he guessed right.
Lotus and If swiftly cleared the remaining rats, and their progress was encouraging.
Rod, wearing the Insight Crown, rested until his mana was fully restored. He also asked Hepeki for a map to speed up their work.
The group worked diligently throughout the day, leaving countless rat corpses on the ground.
These guys, with their flamboyant appearances, didn't complain about the task at hand, which impressed Rod.
He wasn't sure about their personal lives, but in terms of abilities and attitude, they were undoubtedly excellent Archmages.
As the sun set, Rod summoned a Treant to weave some Woven Vine Chairs so everyone had a place to sit and rest.
They wiped away their sweat and exhaled in relief.
Hepeki spoke, "You seem to know a lot of convenient magic."
Rod lazily lay on Mila's lap, replying casually, "Magic serves life, changing it."
Where did he hear that from? Mila took the opportunity to caress Rod's head and play with his hair.
"That kind of mana restoration magic is amazing," said If. "If you were a girl, I'd start worshipping you."
"You, remember to visit our guild when you're free. I'll introduce you to Mila's brother."
Rod thought Elfsman wouldn't mind giving this guy, who wanted to call his sister 'sister', a good beating.
Lotus remained unfriendly, "I also think that kind of magic is powerful... but I'm not trying to praise you."
"Thank you." Rod found that after getting used to it, this dark-skinned guy might be the easiest to get along with.
The group chatted for a while, and the atmosphere was harmonious as long as they didn't unconsciously fawn over Mila.
Hepeki fiddled with the 'Digital Map' again, sliding a screen over for Rod and Mila to see, "Although we didn't completely clean them out, the larger rats have basically disappeared, and the remaining few field mice are insufficient to affect the normal lives of nearby villagers. So, our mission ends here?"
Rod extended his hand, "Pleasure working with you."
Hepeki shook his hand, "Pleasure working with you.
I never would've thought that in just one year, someone who didn't even know the Common Tongue could become such an excellent Archmage."
Rod smiled, "You still remember me? I thought you guys weren't interested in men at all?"
Hepeki struck a cool pose, placing a hand on his nose bridge, "Maybe that's just my character setting?"
...
The Azure Sky Horse trio left, and Rod and Mila also set off on their journey back to the village.
Rod sighed, "Although they're so handsome, they're all good people."
Mila looked at Rod curiously, "Did Mr. Hepeki give you some weird grammar again? You don't even know how to use transitions now."
Rod asked, "Then how should I have said it?"
"You should've said... although they're not as handsome as you, they're still good people." Mila winked at him.
Rod looked at her, "Do you know that when you compliment someone like that, with a flirtatious wink, there will be consequences?"
