Chapter 283: Lu Lianrong
Chapter 283: Lu Lianrong
Suisui summoned her strength once more, this time with more success.
The young man finally stirred, perhaps startled by Suisui's newfound might.
It was possible that she had finally found the right spot to exert her force. Before being doted on by the royal family, Suisui's strength had been considerable compared to other children her age. Although she had become a bit frail due to her pampered lifestyle, Suisui still believed she possessed immense strength.
Thus, she felt rather dissatisfied that she couldn't drag this young man.
He didn't seem much older than her, did he?
Well...
Once the person was truly pulled out, it became apparent that he was quite big, resembling her older brothers in size.
As Suisui dragged the young man, the others were able to lend a hand more easily.
A nimble maid directly grabbed the young master from the corner where she had been standing.
He was indeed running a fever, and the heat could be felt even through his clothes. The temperature was quite high.
After pulling him out, the maid skillfully flipped him into her arms and then carried him to Lu Xinglan."Madam, it's a young master, and he's running a high fever. His condition doesn't seem good, and he's also having some convulsions," the maid reported.
Hearing this, Lu Xinglan's face paled. The combination of a high fever and convulsions was indeed concerning.
She glanced at the child's face and found him vaguely familiar, but she couldn't quite place who he was. Turning to her aunt, who was accompanying her, Lu Xinglan saw that her aunt also recognized the child. She quickly spoke up, "He's the eldest young master of the Huayang Marquis Manor."
Upon hearing this, both Lu Xinglan and the Princess of Qi froze.
As soon as the child had been brought out, the Princess of Qi had urged Suisui to come out as well. After Suisui obediently emerged, the princess had immediately taken the child into her arms and was now soothing him gently, worried that he might have been frightened.
Now, upon learning that this pitiful young master was the eldest son of the Huayang Marquis Manor, the same person she had mentioned earlier, the princess was naturally astonished.
The two sisters exchanged a glance, both furrowing their brows to varying degrees.
Neither of them was known for being blunt or outspoken, so despite their curiosity, they refrained from asking too many questions.
With the child's condition deteriorating, they couldn't afford to delay any further.
However, carrying the child openly into the crowd might disrupt the atmosphere of the Lu Manor.
Thus, Lu Xinglan quickly gestured to the maid, indicating that she should take the child to the back courtyard."Let's go to the back garden first," Lu Xinglan instructed.
Although Lu Xinglan was already married, she still had a courtyard in her parental home, which the manor had kept for her convenience when she visited with her children or stayed for extended periods.
Moreover, everyone in their group, aside from the young patient, was a female relative, so there wouldn't be any issues with them heading to the back garden together.
As they hurried back, they happened to encounter Lu Lianrong, who was rushing over.
Upon seeing that it was Lu Lianrong, Lu Xinglan paused momentarily before reacting with delight."Sister Lianrong, come quickly! Take us to the back garden first. There's a child who's fallen severely ill, and we need a physician," Lu Xinglan requested.
At just 11 years old, Lu Lianrong stood half a head taller than Lu Xue'rou, who was 12. She exuded a crisp and valiant aura, and her brows and eyes conveyed a sense of composure beyond her years.
Lu Xinglan guessed that the banquet must be keeping her aunt and cousins busy, and they probably couldn't spare anyone to come over, which was why they had sent Sister Lianrong instead.
Indeed, that was the case.
Since the maid hadn't elaborated, she had only mentioned that a child was trapped near the faux mountain.
Assuming it was a case of mischievous children feeling embarrassed about being rescued in front of an audience, Lu Xinglan hadn't wanted to create a fuss, so she sent Lu Lianrong to assist instead.
Lu Lianrong was the eldest daughter of the second wife. Despite her young age, she exuded a heroic spirit.
After arriving, she didn't interrupt her aunts' conversation but waited until she had a clear understanding of the situation before greeting her aunts and inquiring about their well-being.
After asking about An's condition, Lu Lianrong briefly inquired about the situation before directly leading the group towards the back garden. "Let's head to my courtyard. It's closer, and we can have a physician take a look," Lu Lianrong said as she stepped forward, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the situation.
Leaning in closer, she studied the young man before her, her brows furrowing in recognition. "The young master of the Huayang Marquis Manor?" Lu Lianrong's tone held a hint of surprise.
Lu Xinglan nodded, her eyes holding a mixture of concern and curiosity. This eldest niece of hers truly resembled her second brother, exuding a formidable aura akin to that of a seasoned warrior.
As Lu Lianrong questioned them, her gaze shifted to the young patient, her hand reaching out to gently touch his forehead. The heat she felt through her palm caused her brows to furrow further. "Your head is scorching. This doesn't look good," she murmured, her eyes narrowing in concern.
Turning to one of the maids, her voice held a hint of command. "Dung Dung, you're quick on your feet. Take my token and go summon Doctor Wu from Shuni Medical Hall. He's skilled in treating high fevers in children, and this doesn't look good for Wei Mingqiao."
Dung Dung, a name that evoked a sense of solid reliability, belonged to a slender and agile young girl, likely around fourteen or fifteen years of age. Her attire set her apart from the other maids, as she was dressed in a sleek teal riding outfit, her hair pulled back into a high ponytail.
Upon receiving Lu Lianrong's instructions, Dung Dung nodded decisively. "Yes!" And with that, she was off, her swift departure leaving behind a fleeting afterimage.
Lu Xinglan had witnessed Dung Dung's speed on numerous occasions, yet each time it left her impressed.
Suisui, on the other hand, was seeing this for the very first time, and her eyes widened in astonishment, reflecting the surprise she felt.
As Lu Lianrong turned to address another maid, Hui Hui, her gaze landed on Suisui's round eyes, brimming with admiration and a hint of hero-worship. Lu Lianrong's smile faltered, and she couldn't help but address this adorable cousin of hers. "Hello there, Mingxi. I'm your cousin Lianrong," she said, her tone warm and friendly.
Suisui felt a surge of admiration for her cousin. To have a maid who could fly... well, that certainly wasn't something ordinary!
At that moment, Suisui realized that many people had been addressing her as Mingxi. Finally, she understood that she had another name.
Nestled in her mother's embrace, Suisui felt a twinge of embarrassment but didn't let it show. Instead, she offered a cheerful smile, tilting her head slightly as she greeted her cousin. "Hello, Cousin Lianrong. I'm Mingxi, but you can also call me Suisui."
Upon hearing that Suisui was her cousin's pet name, Lu Lianrong's eyes sparkled with newfound delight. "Ah, that's a cute nickname. It suits you well—round and soft."
The admiration in Suisui's eyes grew more intense, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of affection for this cousin of hers.
However, the current situation took precedence, and Lu Lianrong refrained from giving in to the urge to scoop Suisui into her embrace. There were matters to be addressed, and the presence of their aunts prevented her from doing so. Nonetheless, she couldn't resist reaching out to gently tug at the tassels on Suisui's hat. "Why are you so well-behaved? Children should be more lively. Suisui, you must be brave and bold, alright?"
