Chapter 283: Basic Breathing Technique
Chapter 283: Basic Breathing Technique
When Teacher Chen offered to teach him the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique, Mu Yue naturally didn't refuse. It would be a great opportunity to acquire an advanced taijutsu skill and distance himself from his past.
However, Mu Yue didn't want to simply accept the technique as a gift. Instead, he chose to exchange it for another taijutsu. He gave Teacher Chen a scroll that detailed the training method for the Stone-Splitting technique.
It might seem like a slight loss for Mu Yue to trade a technique he didn't know for one he already mastered, but he felt it was worth it. Firstly, Stone-Splitting wasn't a particularly important skill to him. Secondly, he could use this new technique to showcase his ninja talent and inventiveness. Lastly, it would serve as a way to improve his reputation and expand his social circle.
"Teacher Mu Yue, what's the name of the taijutsu you just used?" Might Guy asked eagerly as he approached.
He had been thrilled to witness the clash between Wood Leaf Dragon God and Tiger-Style Air Cannon, as both combatants were his teachers, and he knew he would have the chance to learn these techniques.
"It's called Daytime Tiger," Mu Yue replied with a smile. "Once your physical strength reaches the required standard, I'll teach it to you."
Daytime Tiger had extremely high requirements for physical prowess, even more so than Wood Leaf Dragon God. It was a typical brute-force style taijutsu.
"My youthful passion is burning even more fiercely now!" Might Guy exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement.
Konohamaru Sarutobi and Ebisu Hiruzen exchanged envious glances. Indeed, having a great teacher like Mu Yue had its perks—access to advanced taijutsu.
"That technique is not something just anyone can learn," Teacher Chen interjected, noticing the longing looks on their faces. "You should focus on mastering the Wood Leaf Dragon God first. That would already be quite an accomplishment."
As a master of taijutsu, he could discern the principles behind Daytime Tiger, and it was definitely not a technique meant for ordinary ninjas.
"Alright, let's get back to training," Teacher Chen said. "After witnessing this battle, you should have a better understanding of how far you still need to go to become true ninjas."
"Yes!" Might Guy, Konohamaru, and Ebisu chorused in response. After bidding farewell to Mu Yue, they resumed their training.
"Then we won't disturb you further," Mu Yue said, offering a gentle smile.
"Take care, Spirit Uncle!" Obito called out enthusiastically, waving at Teacher Chen.
Despite the time they had spent, Obito felt that the trip had been worthwhile. Not only had he seen Mu Yue use a new taijutsu, but he had also managed to learn a cool and powerful-looking technique.
"What do you mean, Spirit Uncle?" Teacher Chen said, his face twitching in annoyance. "Call me Teacher Chen or Uncle Chen. Don't give me these strange nicknames."
"Okay, Spirit Uncle," Obito replied with a cheeky grin.
Mu Yue gave Obito a light tap on the head and then offered an apologetic smile before leading Obito back to the Southern Border Forest to continue their training.
Upon their return to the Southern Border Forest, Obito scanned the area, looking for Kakashi. He wanted to brag about Mu Yue's recent battle. However, he was surprised to find Rin Nohara there as well, sitting and chatting with Kakashi. Obito immediately ran over to her.
"Rin, you're here to train too? How have you been these past few days?" Obito asked, his voice filled with concern.
Unlike Obito and Kakashi, who had already experienced similar dangerous situations several times, this was Rin's first encounter with such a crisis on a mission. Obito believed that it must have taken a toll on her mentally.
"Thank you for your concern, Obito. I'm doing well. I've mostly been studying theoretical medical knowledge at home these days," Rin replied with a smile.
It would be unrealistic to expect Rin to feel completely unaffected by the unexpected turn of events on her first mission, but it didn't seem to have impacted her spirit. She had spent the last two and a half days at home, primarily focusing on expanding her medical knowledge and improving her skills.
"That's good to hear," Obito said. "You know, Rin, I just went with Teacher Mu Yue to meet Guy's mentor, Teacher Chen. And let me tell you, their battle was incredible!" Obito exclaimed, eager to paint a vivid picture of the clash between Wood Leaf Dragon God and Daytime Tiger.
As he described the techniques, Obito even went so far as to physically act out the part where he was blown back by the force of their attacks, trying to make his storytelling more engaging.
"Teacher Chen's Wood Leaf Dragon God was like a massive green dragon, and Teacher Mu Yue's Daytime Tiger was a huge white tiger. The force of their attacks was so strong that it could blow people away!" Obito exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Clap clap.
Rin smiled and applauded gently. "It sounds amazing."
"Maybe I have a talent for acting," Obito said, beaming with joy at Rin's affirmation.
"Teacher Chen truly deserves his reputation as the strongest taijutsu ninja in the Leaf Village," Obito continued, turning to Kakashi with a smug expression. "He immediately saw the hidden potential in my body and offered to teach me Wood Leaf Dragon God."
Obito's expression clearly conveyed his satisfaction, and it successfully piqued Kakashi's interest.
"I think what Rin meant was that the battle between Teacher Mu Yue and Teacher Chen was impressive, not that your storytelling and acting were impressive," Kakashi said, a hint of amusement in his voice.
"Kakashi, you're just jealous of my talent," Obito retorted. "The battle was indeed amazing, but my storytelling and acting aren't bad either, right, Rin?"
Kakashi remained silent, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. Indeed, Obito had put in a lot of effort, although the results were another matter entirely.
Feeling that they had rested enough, Kakashi once again immersed himself in the practice of the breathing technique.
Although he wanted to chat with Rin some more, the sight of Kakashi training was too much for Obito, and he immediately joined his friend in the breathing exercise.
Just as Rin prepared to continue her training in medical ninjutsu, Mu Yue paused his guidance of Genma and walked over to her. "Rin, starting today, you will cultivate your water-attribute chakra nature transformation and chakra shape transformation."
Rin's innate chakra nature was water, and while her ninjutsu talent wasn't as enigmatic as Might Guy's, learning water-style ninjutsu was inevitable.
The reason he hadn't taught her before was that there hadn't been a need. It would have been a waste of time and effort.
Among all his disciples, Rin had the least amount of chakra. As a medical ninja, she needed to reserve a portion of her chakra for healing techniques, and her super strength also consumed a significant amount. There simply wasn't enough left to allocate to other ninjutsu.
So, instead of training in water-style ninjutsu, it had been more beneficial for Rin to work on physical training, improving her taijutsu experience, or honing her chakra control for medical ninjutsu.
Now, however, things had changed. Firstly, he was in the process of developing the Water Breath, and secondly, Rin's chakra was slowly increasing as she grew older and trained.
Mu Yue estimated that it would take at least another year to fully develop the Water Breath. However, they couldn't afford to wait until then to start learning water-style ninjutsu, as it would be difficult for her to use it effectively in battle.
Determined to help Rin keep up with Obito and the others, Mu Yue racked his brains for a solution. The development timeline for the Water Breath was too long, so he used his experience in creating it to devise a basic breathing technique. This new technique had no special abilities and could only enhance physical capabilities through breathing, similar to the Flame Breath.
Mu Yue intended to test it for a few days before teaching it to Rin, so that learning the Water Breath later on would be faster.
"Mmm." Rin nodded obediently and then turned to look at Mu Yue.
Although he had mentioned cultivating her water-attribute nature, Mu Yue hadn't yet taught her how to perform such a transformation, so she wasn't sure how to practice.
Mu Yue, of course, was aware of this, and he led Rin to the riverbank to begin her water-attribute chakra nature transformation training. It was easier to use water-style ninjutsu near a plentiful water source, and it also consumed less chakra.
Mu Yue instructed Rin to cup her hands and scoop up some water, feeling its essence, before sharing her thoughts.
Water was different from fire; one could touch fire with their hands, but not water, which made this exercise more convenient.
"Moist, flowing, liquid," Rin said, voicing the thoughts in her mind.
Mu Yue nodded. "From now on, when you're performing chakra nature transformation, just guide your chakra in the direction of these sensations."
After explaining, Mu Yue demonstrated. Under his control, a column of water rose from the calm river surface.
He first demonstrated by borrowing the surrounding water, and then he showed how to create water using chakra.
Rin watched intently, and after witnessing Mu Yue's display, she instinctively imagined herself performing the chakra nature transformation.
Water was Rin's innate attribute, and with Mu Yue's high proficiency in water-attribute chakra nature transformation, along with the skill's teaching buff, Rin trained diligently. With these multiple buffs, her progress in nature transformation was impressive.
In addition to the water-attribute chakra nature transformation, Mu Yue also had Rin practice chakra shape transformation, as the characteristics of water meant that many advanced water-style ninjutsu had high requirements in this area.
That evening, Mu Yue called all his disciples home for a meal.
"This kind of life is truly blissful." Obito exclaimed with a happy smile after devouring his food.
Although the training was exhausting, the delicious meals Mu Yue prepared after each session were truly satisfying, as if their souls were being redeemed.
"Eat up," Mu Yue said with a gentle smile. "Get plenty of rest tonight, because tomorrow, everyone except Rin will undergo a special training."
"Do we have to do assignments?" Obito asked with a serious expression, his greatest concern evident.
"If you can complete the training perfectly, then no," Mu Yue replied with a smile. Tomorrow was the last day of Obito's group's break, and it was time to crank up the pressure.
Obito: ...
He felt that if he could complete Mu Yue's training without having to do assignments, he would be more than capable of taking on a jonin by himself.
Thinking of the terrifying assignment training awaiting him tomorrow, Obito channeled his fear into his appetite and ate even more vigorously.
"Kakashi will also need to participate this time. It's about time he experienced my pain," Obito said, finding solace in the fact that Kakashi would share his suffering.
