Chapter 282: If Lanchi Became the President
Chapter 282: If Lanchi Became the President
Every breath and every slight sound of movement within the classroom seemed amplified, even the leaves rustling gently in the wind outside the window. The students waited with bated breath, their eyes occasionally darting towards the teacher standing at the front of the room.
Time seemed to stand still in that moment of silence, stretching out for what felt like an eternity, yet passing in an instant.
Xido pulled out a handkerchief and wiped his hands before putting away the potato chips. His expression turned solemn once more.
He cleared his throat gently, breaking the oppressive silence.
"The Campert family of Anphis, my fellow student, has a history dating back to the Solar Calendar year 1725. In recent years, they have been staunch right-wingers. Although there are many demons in the family, they are all bought as servants, and their trade with the Kingdom of Essetai Land is legitimate and law-abiding. There are no risks regarding tax or imperial secrets, and I believe that no matter how much they are investigated, there will not be any problems. This kind of family could never be a traitor to the Protoss Empire. They have withstood the tests of storms and struggles."
Xido's voice carried a gentle breeze that swept away the chill of winter as he spoke from the lectern.
Hearing Xido's attempt to defuse the situation, the others gradually relaxed.
It seemed that the class could continue on calmly once again.
Or not; they couldn't quite tell if Xido was helping or digging a hole for Anphis, a blonde noble lady.
Soon, someone noticed that she was avoiding eye contact, her forehead gleaming with a thin layer of cold sweat.
This associate professor seemed to be a joker! He was toying with her.
"My fellow students," Xido said gently, a hint of pleasure in his voice. "I know that you are all excited, tense, and perhaps even a little afraid because of these topics. But remember, this is just a classroom."
...
The Royal Magic Academy of Protoss, with its ancient history department, was nestled amidst the misty gardens, exuding an air of dignity and historical grandeur that permeated every inch of the land.
Despite the morning hour, the stone corridor on the side of the building was bathed not in harsh, blinding sunlight but in a soft, subdued light that mirrored the unassuming nature of the history department. Like the building itself, the light hinted at the profound knowledge and wisdom that lay within.
The entire class eventually came to a peaceful and quiet conclusion.
In terms of discipline, it even surpassed the classes at the Academy of Eckolite.
After class, Gloria, a direct subordinate, disappeared, and Xido, briefcase in hand, came to the back row of the classroom to invite Lanchi for a walk and chat.
The two tall figures strolled along the path, their strides confident and respectful in their mutual conversation.
"Mr. Rocky McCarthy, may I ask you to be my assistant? This is equivalent to a formal teaching position appointed by the History Department of the Royal Academy of Protoss."
Xido felt that the students needed some encouragement from a strict teacher.
"Of course, I'd be delighted to accept, or rather, I already have quite a few questions about the history of the Northern Continent that I'd like to discuss with Associate Professor Xido."
Lanchi had always been eager to take on such responsibilities.
He had realized that whenever he went to a school, his outstanding student management skills would inevitably lead to job opportunities sooner or later.
If he had wanted to, he could have easily retired in the North Continent, relying on the support of his student, Zestira.
However, his life was about more than just eating and sleeping. He carried a grand vision of creating a happy and prosperous society that would endure forever.
"You're a great help, Professor Rocky," Xido said, and proceeded to brief Lanchi on the procedures they would need to follow and the corresponding benefits.
Although the salary was not as high as what he had been receiving from Viscount Francis, Lanchi already had three sources of income: the Extinction Branch and the Dominance Branch would both be paying him a wage.
"Additionally, Xido will be able to grant Lanchi the credit points that he's entitled to as an associate professor, which will then be transferred to Zestira. That's more than what she would typically earn from completing her daily schoolwork."
The cat boss, lurking in the shadows, remained silent as Lanchi's number of jobs became increasingly abstract. This guy's talent and drive seemed limitless. Now that Lanchi had become the Holy Son of Batian, the cat boss finally understood why Xiubo always said he needed to keep an eye on him.
However, for the time being, things didn't seem too out of hand, even without Xiubo around. At the very least, Lanchi hadn't caused any major incidents. The most that could be said was that by reporting the Great Priest of the Extinction Branch, he had gained some minor notoriety in the political and legal circles of Helrom, the imperial capital, not to mention the entire Protoss Empire and the Northern Continent, which was countless times more expansive than their realm.
Everything would be fine once they found Xiubo!
"A month? No problem. Help me teach the students for a week, go hard on them, and they should be cured after one course of treatment." Xido thought for a moment before nodding. It would be best to just get rid of the student; it would be less hassle.
"I'll do my best." Lanchi replied.
As Lanchi and Xido walked towards the office building, they found that they shared similar views on classroom management, favoring the idea of strict discipline and strong medicine to cure deep-rooted issues.
As they walked, the number of students around them gradually dwindled, and they soon reached a sparsely populated area near the faculty office building.
"Rocky, what's your take on this war with the Protoss Empire?" Xido asked suddenly.
This was a sensitive topic that was not typically discussed. However, since Lanchi hadn't been very subtle about his stance, Xido felt he could be direct with him. Not many people dared to express their positions so boldly these days.
Lanchi laughed upon hearing the question, as if he found the very notion of the war unnecessary. "If I were the Emperor, this war wouldn't have happened in the first place. I would've built a wall in the north to allay the northern residents' concerns and prove the northern kingdoms' innocence. But each of those kingdoms would have to pay up, and our Protoss Empire would only cover, at most, 30% of the construction cost."
He gestured confidently with his hand as he spoke.
Xido: "..."
Xido felt a lump in his throat as he listened. Although Lanchi's words sounded absurd, this was the kind of crazy thing he could pull off. Thinking about the northern kingdoms, they might actually be better off paying for the wall instead of fighting this war. It would provide them with a layer of protection, after all. This solution satisfied everyone's demands, even if no one was particularly happy about it...
