Chapter 281: The Meeting
Chapter 281: The Meeting
September 25, 2017
The three girls had been waiting for nearly three hours, and Ye Mei was on the verge of a breakdown. If it weren't for her older sister holding her back, this young lady would have likely charged forward with a Guandao that was twice her height to confront the warriors of the Second Camp.
Although Ye Junru stopped Ye Mei, the inefficiency of the mountain camp, or rather the Second Camp, still caused her to frown.
In her opinion, the mountain camp's main gate was almost like a matter of face. She had seen the Second Camp's warriors, and they were just average, with a Strength Value that might not even average twenty. While they were certainly stronger than the typical mountain camp or county town, Ye Junru's initial impression of the camp's military prowess was not very high.
Her evaluation of the mountain camp took a dip.
However, what surprised Ye Junru was that the Second Camp's soldiers were entirely composed of Indigenous NPCs.
Although Indigenous NPCs looked no different from System NPCs, experienced people could still tell them apart at a glance. This wasn't an unusual occurrence.
In Ye Junru's opinion, the truly unusual aspect should be this group of Indigenous NPC soldiers. Such armies had many weaknesses and could be troublesome. Aside from requiring a large amount of gold for maintenance, managing an army of Indigenous NPCs was also much more challenging, and they were more prone to low morale, collapsing at the slightest setback.
Typically, Lord-type Outsiders preferred not to use Indigenous NPCs. In comparison, System NPCs were more cost-effective and had greater combat capabilities.
"Could it be that this mountain camp doesn't have any good troops, and they had no choice but to use these Indigenous NPCs as a last resort?" Ye Junru furrowed her brows, thinking to herself.
Just then, she noticed that Ye Mei, who had been jumping around restlessly, suddenly became quiet. Finding this strange, Ye Junru looked in the direction of her sister's gaze and was startled. She saw the triumphant return of Lu HaiKong and his entourage. Six hundred mountain camp guards had set out, and although only 437 returned, each soldier was an Elite presence. The 437 soldiers marched in a precise formation, and their mere presence exuded an aura of ironclad ferocity.
"What an elite force!"
When Ye Junru saw this squad, she instinctively used skills like Appraisal. Upon viewing the attributes of the Elite Guard, her face showed disbelief.
What shocked her wasn't the Elite Guard's 35-point Strength, but their 'Elite' troop rank. She knew that for a unit to advance from 'Ordinary' to 'Elite,' and then from 'Elite' to 'Elite,' was an incredibly lengthy process.
"What kind of battles did these four hundred Elite troops experience to achieve such a rank?"
Of course, Ye Junru didn't know that in this world, there was a cheat device called the 'Lu HaiKong Brand.' For others, cultivating a skill that was difficult to master became simple and easy with this device. What was challenging to train for others became several times easier with his presence.
Lu HaiKong himself wasn't fully aware of this, he just felt that his martial arts skills were slightly better than others.
"I didn't expect this guy to be so capable. I haven't seen him in a few months, and he's already cultivated such an elite force. Hey, isn't that historical warrior from Wang Hao's command?"
The masked person gazed at Pan Feng, their bright eyes gleaming with a peculiar light. On the day the aristocratic coalition army laid siege, the masked person had to return to find Wang Hao to collect money, so she didn't witness the entire battle.
She had left just as the coalition army arrived, so she missed the fight between Dian Wei and Pan Feng. She also didn't know that Pan Feng and Gao Shun had been captured by Lu HaiKong. Initially, she thought Pan Feng had fled after her defeat, so seeing Pan Feng by Lu HaiKong's side now was quite a surprise.
However, as the three girls stared unabashedly at Lu HaiKong, he, too, noticed their presence.
There was no way he could ignore them; they were the only three people under the fortified wall, and Ye Mei was carrying a Guandao twice her height, a sight that was hard to miss.
"Who are you three? What are you doing here?"
As a privileged class member, Lu HaiKong, while his elite guard marched on foot, rode alongside Pan Feng. Upon spotting the three girls, he rode over to them.
"It's you!"
As he spoke, Lu HaiKong's gaze fell upon the masked person. Recognizing her instantly, as she now appeared in the same form he had briefly seen her in at the mountain camp.
"Hey, it's been a while, boss." The masked person waved.
"What are you doing here?" Lu HaiKong had no favorable impression of this person, despite their apparent assistance.
"Don't be so cold. After all, didn't we help you once?"
"Helped me? I don't think you're that kind-hearted. If not for Yue'er, do you think I would let you leave so easily?"
"Nonsense! This broken-down mountain camp, I come and go as I please. Do you think I need your permission because of Yue'er?" The masked person was getting irritated.
Lu HaiKong narrowed his eyes. "If you're so capable, why don't you try infiltrating my camp?"
[One-Six-One-Nine-One-Bar-One-Look-No-Mistake Version!]
"Try it, and..."
The meeting between the masked person and Lu HaiKong was far from amicable; they faced each other like fighting roosters, brimming with competitiveness.
As the tension thickened, Ye Junru quickly stepped forward, pulling the masked person aside and addressing Lu HaiKong.
"Greetings, Lu HaiKong."
"Who are you?" Lu HaiKong furrowed his brows, sensing something extraordinary about Ye Junru at first sight. He immediately suppressed the personal emotions he had just displayed and adopted a solemn and domineering demeanor.
"I'm Ye Junru from the Youzhou Yellow Turbans."
Upon hearing the words "Yellow Turbans," Lu HaiKong's eyes flashed with a keen light. The childishness he had shown while arguing with the masked person instantly vanished, replaced by a serious and imposing aura.
People have two sides. If the previous display was their more genuine and unrestrained side, akin to mischievous children, then now, Lu HaiKong presented his professional and authoritative side as a true overlord.
The seamless transition between these contrasting personalities, without a hint of forcefulness, left Ye Mei and the masked person in awe. They had heard of people changing faces, but witnessing such a rapid transformation was a first for them.
In contrast, Ye Junru remained calm, her respect for Lu HaiKong growing even more.
