Chapter 281: Not Stepping on Ants Is Actually Pretty Hard
Chapter 281: Not Stepping on Ants Is Actually Pretty Hard
Near a small island not far from Pegasus Island, the Warship anchored in the ocean within sight of land but didn’t approach the shore. By the time Kuro arrived, Zeff was already gone from the Warship.
“Kuro’s aura is here.”
Kuro hovered in midair, scanning the island below with a cold glint in his eyes.
He raised his hand, fingers preparing to clench into a fist, but paused and relaxed his grip. Glancing toward a specific direction within the island, he muttered, “Fine. For the old man’s sake, I’ll play nice this time.”
Descending swiftly, he landed on the island’s surface—right at the center of a pirate camp. A group of pirates sat around a roaring fire, roasting meat and drinking heartily, their laughter echoing.
One pirate, mid-cheer, took a swig of wine, then froze mid-sip as his eyes caught the sky. A spray of alcohol erupted from his mouth, drenching the face of the pirate beside him.
“What the hell?!”
The drenched pirate wiped his face, scowling.
“There’s someone flying!” The drunkard pointed upward, his voice trembling with disbelief.
“Don’t joke—how could anyone fly? Wait, they’re actually flying!”
As the pirates gawked skyward, Kuro’s silhouette landed before them with a soft “Yo.”
“It’s the Navy!”
“Why is the Navy here?!”
“Get him!”
Weapons drawn, the pirates surrounded Kuro.
“Just one guy?”
Only then did they scan the area, realizing no backup was coming. One lone Navy officer?
Thud! Thud!
A five-meter-tall ogre shoved through the crowd, each step shaking the earth. Towering over Kuro, he cracked his knuckles menacingly.
“Navy? Just you? Brave—or stupid. You know where you are?”
The pirates erupted in laughter.
A single Navy officer? No threat.
“This is the West Blue’s most fearsome pirate alliance—the Pirate Alliance!”
Leaning down, the giant sneered, “You know what I did to the last Navy crew I met? Smashed ’em into meat pulp, one by one!”
He swung his fist downward.
“Oh! Fray’s at it again.”
“Hey, Fray, hold back a little—we’re drinking here!”
“Don’t stop him, idiot. Haven’t we learned our lesson? Let Fray play. We’ll just move to another spot later.”
The pirates watched Fray’s punch like it was a spectator sport. To them, the Navy officer was already dead meat.
Slap!
A single finger blocked the massive fist. Kuro’s index finger pressed against the knuckles, halting the attack cold.
“Listen up,” Kuro remarked, eyeing Fray’s stunned face. “Do your brains weigh less than plankton? A Navy officer walks into a pirate nest—it’s obvious, right? He must’ve brought enough firepower to make this trip safe.”
He nudged his finger forward. The ogre’s arm trembled under the pressure as he stumbled backward.
Index finger raised, Kuro declared, “Flyfishman Karate: Explosion.”
Bang!
A crimson hole pierced Fray’s forehead, as clean as a bullet’s mark.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Before the pirates could react, identical wounds bloomed between their brows. They stiffened and collapsed like puppets cut from their strings.
“Phew.”
Kuro casually brushed his index finger against his lips and strode onward.
He’d long mastered combining unarmed combat with the Nailsfist technique.
“Might as well clean up these pests while I’ve got time.”
This was his specialty. Back in the East Blue, as a rookie, he’d trailed superiors on pirate raids. Whenever he encountered nuisances the Navy couldn’t handle directly, he’d “leave for a quick errand.”
And that was the end of those pirates.
---
Bang!
Bang! Bang!
“Ehrnando! Face me!”
At a cave’s depths on the island, Zeff punched down another pirate, reaching the end of the tunnel. A trail of fallen bodies marked his path.
He’d walked straight through the pirates—no challenge at all.
“Zeff… Master.”
The voice came from above. Golden-haired Ehrnando stood atop the cave’s entrance, gazing down. “I knew you’d come alone.”
“What’s your goal, Ehrnando?” Zeff’s eyes darkened. “You were always kind. Why descend into this darkness?”
“Kind?” Ehrnando laughed bitterly. “Be kind like you? Look at you, Zeff! Look at this foolish old shell of yours! You’re stuck with that clunky mechanical arm—do you actually take pride in it?”
He leaped high, legs snapping together. “Still Step: Spear!”
A piercing, cone-shaped slash tore through the air.
Zeff swung his mechanical arm, shattering the attack. But in the same breath, Ehrnando landed atop him, hand slamming Zeff’s face into the ground.
Crash!
Ehrnando’s voice boomed with the shockwave.
“Clumsy! Useless! Crippled! You’re ancient, yet you still fight pirates the same way. If you won’t kill them, one day they’ll hunt you down for revenge!”
His fingers tightened around Zeff’s face, bones creaking.
Wham!
The mechanical arm swung sideways. Ehrnando dodged, but the retaliatory kick to his gut sent him skidding back.
Zeff flipped upright, sighing. “Still brooding over that incident, huh?”
“That incident?” Ehrnando’s eyes bloodshot, voice a growl. “That was my family, Zeff!”
