Chapter 280: The Battle with the Strongest Taijutsu User
Chapter 280: The Battle with the Strongest Taijutsu User
Mu Yue had a habit of arriving early. The appointed time was 2:00 pm, but he and Deidara arrived at 1:50 pm.
"Genma, Ebisu, and Guy," Deidara greeted the three men, who were practicing, with a cheeky smile.
Hearing Deidara's voice, the three men paused their training and turned to look at him. They noticed Mu Yue standing beside Deidara.
"Teacher Mu Yue and Deidara, what brings you here?" Hiashi Cynada asked, confusion evident on his face.
He had been unaware of the conversation between Teacher Chen and Might Guy, only knowing that they had discussed training matters.
"Teacher Mu Yue has something to discuss with your mentor, by the way, where is he? I don't see him around," Deidara said, looking around but failing to spot the muscular man he had expected.
"Hasn't he arrived yet?" Deidara asked in confusion.
"He's right there, sitting under that tree over there," Hiashi said, pointing to a large tree not far from them, where Teacher Chen was sitting and reading a book.
Following Hiashi's gesture, Deidara looked in the direction of the tree and saw a middle-aged man wearing a shabby yellow jacket and yellow tights.
"Is that Teacher Chen?" Deidara asked Hiashi, his face full of doubt.
From Deidara's perspective, Teacher Chen didn't look like he would be much taller than himself when standing. Moreover, he didn't have prominent muscles, and there was even a slightly lewd smile on his face.
Deidara felt that this man bore no resemblance to the strongest taijutsu user in Konoha; he looked like an ordinary, middle-aged, degenerate uncle.
"What do you mean, I don't look like him?" Before Hiashi could explain, the keenly perceptive Teacher Chen closed his book, swiftly approached Deidara, and asked with a hint of curiosity.
"So fast!"
Deidara's pupils constricted as he watched Teacher Chen suddenly appear before him. He hadn't even seen how Teacher Chen had moved.
"Greetings, senior. I am Mu Yue," Mu Yue said, placing his hand on Deidara's shoulder and offering a smile as he introduced himself.
Teacher Chen examined Mu Yue for a few moments before nodding and introducing himself briefly.
Teacher Chen gave Mu Yue a subtle signal, indicating that he should move to the side to talk, away from the disciples.
He wanted to question Mu Yue about his training methods—something that the disciples shouldn't overhear—and he wanted to give Mu Yue a chance to save face.
Once they had moved to the side, Teacher Chen wasted no time and directly voiced his concerns: "Since you were able to distinguish yourself in the battle with a jinchuriki, you must be a capable ninja. Don't you know the harm that excessive training can bring to the body? The body's endurance has its limits. There might not be any issues now, but it could be disastrous when you reach middle age."
"Guy's training volume is indeed enormous. Just from what I've witnessed, it surpasses the limits of what an ordinary person can endure," Mu Yue acknowledged.
While he admired Guy's tenacity, he believed that such intense training could shorten Guy's prime years and even reduce his lifespan.
In response to Teacher Chen's skepticism, Mu Yue maintained a calm expression and replied gently, "First of all, I'd like to express my gratitude for your concern for Guy."
Teacher Chen stared at Mu Yue, expecting an explanation rather than gratitude.
"You're right; an ordinary person couldn't handle such a massive training load," Mu Yue agreed, then continued, "But Guy is no ordinary person. He possesses exceptional talent in taijutsu, and his body's endurance surpasses that of a typical person."
The main reason Might Guy could become so powerful was his relentless effort, but it should also be noted that his body was slightly superior to that of an average person. While he didn't possess innate divine strength, his endurance was remarkable.
In other words, if Might Guy didn't strive diligently, he would be just an ordinary person. However, with his relentless efforts, he could rival geniuses.
"I can see that," Teacher Chen conceded, "but even with his enhanced physical endurance, this training load is still excessive."
With a lifetime of experience in taijutsu, Teacher Chen had an intimate understanding of its demands. That was why he valued Might Guy so highly—a combination of superhuman willpower and a body with exceptional endurance was the perfect formula for a taijutsu prodigy.
"If we're only considering his current training regimen, then yes, it is a bit much," Mu Yue admitted. "But I also have a secret medicine that can eliminate fatigue and restore the body. With Guy's extraordinary endurance and the aid of this medicine, the current training load is just right for him."
It was undeniable that the secret medicine provided by the system was incredibly effective, and it complemented Might Guy perfectly.
"How powerful can a medicine be?" Teacher Chen asked skeptically. "What kind of medicine are you using?"
"You won't find this medicine anywhere on the market," Mu Yue replied, shaking his head. The medicine provided by the system was something that Teacher Chen wouldn't be able to find even if he searched all of Ninjaworld.
Teacher Chen was unsure whether to believe Mu Yue's words. If everything Mu Yue said was true, then there shouldn't be any issues. However, Mu Yue's explanation regarding the medicine was rather vague.
"Moreover, Guy has cultivated the Eight Gates, a forbidden technique that you should be familiar with, senior," Mu Yue added.
"The Eight Gates... So that's the forbidden technique. No wonder his aura would suddenly surge when we fought," Teacher Chen mused, a thoughtful expression on his face.
He had never fought a ninja who had mastered the Eight Gates, but he had heard of its reputation.
"The Eight Gates enhance the user's power by removing the body's limitations. The stronger the body, the less damage incurred when opening the gates, and the more potent their effects," Mu Yue explained.
"Guy wants to become a powerful ninja, one of the best in the ninja world. But his talent in ninjutsu is average at best, so the only thing that can support his dream is taijutsu," Mu Yue concluded.
Mu Yue's words caused Teacher Chen to fall into deep thought. Aside from being the mentor of the Might Guy trio, he actually had one more disciple.
This disciple had it worse than Guy. While Guy could still manage to learn some simple ninjutsu with enough time, this disciple had absolutely no talent for ninjutsu or genjutsu and could only rely on taijutsu. It had been a struggle for him to even graduate from the Ninja Academy.
Teacher Chen had been moved by his disciple's tenacity and taken him under his wing, intending to pass on all his taijutsu knowledge. However, due to his insufficient strength, the disciple couldn't yet learn the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique.
"You're a good teacher. No wonder Guy respects you so much," Teacher Chen said, emerging from his thoughts with a sigh.
In his opinion, a teacher who could help their disciple fulfill their dreams was the best kind of teacher.
Mu Yue smiled and returned the compliment, then issued a challenge to Teacher Chen.
"I've long heard of your reputation as the strongest taijutsu ninja in the Leaf Village. May I have the honor of challenging you?"
Fighting Teacher Chen was his primary purpose for coming here, as he wanted to showcase his taijutsu prowess.
Teacher Chen waved his hand dismissively. "Strongest? That's just people exaggerating. If we're talking about taijutsu, the Third Hokage is stronger than me. But if you want to spar, I'm game."
Seeing how well Mu Yue understood taijutsu and how skillfully he had taught Guy, Teacher Chen knew he wouldn't be lacking in that department, so he readily agreed.
"Do you want to fight here, or should we find another spot? If we stay here, those kids can watch and see what a true ninja battle looks like," Teacher Chen suggested.
Watching strong fighters in action was beneficial—firstly, to broaden one's horizons, and secondly, to learn from the strengths of powerful opponents. Of course, if they were too strong, it would be hard to learn anything because one wouldn't be able to follow the fight.
"Let's do it here. We'll just spar lightly," Mu Yue agreed with a smile.
The location didn't matter much to him, as his main audience was Teacher Chen, who had more influence.
Teacher Chen flashed to his disciples' side and announced, "I'm going to spar with Mu Yue. Watch carefully and learn what a true ninja battle looks like."
"Ah, you're fighting Teacher Mu Yue?" Hinata Hyuga asked in surprise.
She felt it was a bit unfair—a battle between the supposed strongest taijutsu ninja in the Leaf Village and a special jonin teacher.
"No, Teacher Mu Yue is capable of defeating jonin-level opponents," Hinata quickly recalled the mission story that Obito had shared.
But then, Hinata thought again. Even strong jonin-level fighters wouldn't stand a chance against someone with the 'strongest' title.
"What? Do you have an objection?" Teacher Chen raised an eyebrow.
He didn't know much about Mu Yue aside from the fact that he had fought alongside Jiraiya against a jinchuriki.
"No, no objection," Hinata quickly shook her head, worried that Teacher Chen would make her join the fight.
That was something Teacher Chen might do—occasionally throwing them a curveball to challenge them.
"Teacher Mu Yue and Teacher Chen..." Ebisu pushed up his glasses, recalling the terrifying might of the Wood Leaf Divine Dragon. He felt that Mu Yue might be in for a challenge.
Hearing that Mu Yue and Teacher Chen were about to fight, Obito lit up with anticipation. He was glad he had come along; now, he would get to witness a battle involving Mu Yue.
He wasn't worried about Mu Yue losing at all. Obito had absolute confidence in Mu Yue; even if Mu Yue relied solely on taijutsu, he didn't think Teacher Chen could win. After all, Mu Yue was an omnipotent immortal, and defeating the strongest taijutsu ninja in the Leaf Village should be well within his capabilities.
Might Guy wore a curious expression. The strongest battle he had ever witnessed was between Mu Yue and Might Dai, with both of them opening six of the Eight Gates. He wondered if this upcoming fight would be even more impressive.
"I wonder how Teacher Mu Yue will deal with Teacher Chen's Wood Leaf Dragon God," Guy mused.
Currently, he had no idea how to counter the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique. The wind pressure was too strong, and if he got too close, he would be cut to ribbons. But if he didn't get close, how could he hope to counter it?
After informing his disciples, Teacher Chen and Mu Yue chose a spot that was neither too close nor too far from the disciples to serve as their battleground.
If they were too far away, the disciples wouldn't be able to see clearly, defeating the purpose of the exhibition. But if they were too close, the fight might affect the disciples, and they could also be harmed by the aftermath of the battle.
"Begin!" Obito shouted, his role in this scenario being that of a referee.
