Chapter 28: The Light Spell
Chapter 28: The Light Spell
For Cho Chang, Cedric Diggory's future girlfriend and Harry Potter's white moonlight, Kyle knew very little and had never interacted with her.
The only thing he knew was that she was in Ravenclaw.
But now, he had learned one more thing about her... she was helpful.
After all, not every Ravenclaw would go out of their way to help others. They preferred to immerse themselves in their own world, thinking about their studies or other matters.
Of course, this didn't mean that Ravenclaws were cold-hearted; it was just a difference in personality. If someone sought their help, Ravenclaws were also willing to provide assistance.
In short, they were neither proactive nor rejecting.
Cho Chang was chatting with her friends, so Kyle only glanced at her and then withdrew his gaze.
"This is just the first class. What will we do in the future? We can't leave an hour early every time."
Beside him, Michael was pulling his hair, looking a bit overwhelmed as he said, "If this continues, I'll be late one day."
"Don't worry," Kyle patted his shoulder and reassured him. "By the way, let me show you something good."
"Something good?"
Michael and Ryan approached curiously.
Kyle took out the map and spread it on the table. "Thank Cedric. Otherwise, you might have been lost for a while."
"This is... the Hogwarts map?"
Michael was still puzzled, but Ryan, who had a wizard father at home, immediately recognized it and exclaimed in surprise, "Where did you get this? Can I copy it? I promise to return it to you after class."
"Of course, we're roommates!" Kyle nodded and then turned to Michael. "What about you? Do you want to copy it?"
Michael was a bit tempted but shook his head after some thought.
As a newcomer to the wizarding world, he didn't want to waste any opportunity to learn magic, especially for a crucial subject like Spellcraft.
"Can I copy it after class?" Michael asked.
"Sure, no problem."
Kyle nodded and then lightly tapped the map with his wand. "Duplicate."
Upon completing the spell, an identical map appeared on the table.
Kyle picked it up, examined it, and then handed it to Michael.
"Here you go. The magic on this should last for about a week. You can copy it whenever you want."
"???"
Michael took the map with a confused expression and then instinctively turned to look at Ryan, who also had a confused look on his face.
Ryan was stunned. He looked at Kyle, then at the parchment in front of him, feeling a rush of heat on his face. Just as he was about to say something, a voice came from in front of them.
"A beautiful duplication charm, Hufflepuff gets five points!"
Kyle was startled and looked up, only to see Cho Chang. Upon closer inspection, he realized there was another person standing at the table.
"Thank you for your praise, Professor Flitwick." Kyle said.
Flitwick smiled and said, "I'm just stating the truth, Mr. Diggory. That's your name, right?"
Kyle nodded. "Yes, that's my name."
Professor Flitwick turned back to Michael, "May I take a look at that map?"
Michael initially didn't recognize the short wizard in front of him, but he quickly remembered Kyle's earlier introduction and hurriedly handed over the map with both hands.
"Okay... yes, Professor."
"Thank you."
Professor Flitwick took the map, carefully felt its magic, and then returned it to Michael.
"Oh, the magic is quite stable. If nothing unexpected happens, this duplicate should last until midday eight days from now."
Professor Flitwick winked at Kyle and said with a hint of regret, "If the end-of-term exam question was on the Duplication Charm, I'd definitely give you an O, but for now, I can only award Hufflepuff three more points."
"Professor!"
At this moment, a little witch from Ravenclaw asked curiously, "Can't items created by the Duplication Charm exist permanently?"
"No, Miss Mittal," Professor Flitwick replied, "If duplicates could exist permanently, there wouldn't be so much parchment in the window displays of Flourish and Blotts."
The error-free version is available at 69 Book Bar! 6=9+Book_Bar.
"Not even Dumbledore?" asked another young wizard.
"Unfortunately, no," Professor Flitwick shook his head, "Even if the Headmaster could make his duplicates last for a hundred years or more, they would still not exist forever."
"Alright, let's leave the topic of the Duplication Charm here for now. It's too early for you all. Now, let's begin the class."
Professor Flitwick turned and walked up to the podium, facing all the young wizards, "In this lesson, we will learn the Light Spell, one of the most basic spells in the Wizarding World. The spell is Lumos. Watch closely..."
The first lesson of Spellcraft was on the Light Spell, which Kyle wasn't surprised about since it was one of the simplest and most straightforward spells in the magical world.
You didn't even need to worry about hand gestures; as long as you were a wizard with a wand and could speak, you could cast it.
In earlier times, the Light Spell was even used to distinguish between wizards and Squibs, with a near-perfect accuracy rate of almost 100%.
It could be said that if someone couldn't cast the Light Spell, they were definitely not a wizard.
Given this situation, Professor Flitwick only demonstrated the casting process of the Light Spell once before letting the young wizards try it themselves.
Soon, the classroom was filled with twinkling lights of various sizes and brightness.
Although Kyle was not the first to succeed, the light on his wand was stable.
It was like an electric light bulb, constantly emitting a fixed and gentle white light to its surroundings.
Unfortunately, there was no extra credit for this.
Because he wasn't the only one who could do this; there were seven young wizards in Ravenclaw who could also make their wands glow steadily.
As for Hufflepuff... there were fewer, but only six less than Ravenclaw, so the gap wasn't significant.
"Don't forget what I said earlier, stay calm and don't panic," Professor Flitwick reminded them in a high-pitched voice, "You must remain calm, just like when you pick up objects normally. Pronouncing the spell correctly is also crucial; don't make any mistakes."
With his reminder, more and more young wizards successfully cast the spell, creating stable 'light bulbs'.
Kyle looked at his two roommates... they were still trying.
