Chapter 28: She Built a Real Treasure!
Chapter 28: She Built a Real Treasure!
"A fruit? A Devil Fruit?"
Aggin, who had just arrived, exclaimed in surprise, "The same Devil Fruit as that Straw Hat Kid?"
"Straw Hat Kid?"
The little girl flicked her head and shouted, "I don't know any Straw Hat or Rag Hat. It's you guys who barged in here and tried to take my ship. Luckily, I finished it just in time; otherwise, it would've been stolen. You pirates don't understand the value of this ship!"
Sage was taken aback for a moment. "You built this ship?"
"Of course!"
The little girl puffed out her chest proudly and said, "I'm the best shipwright and the most formidable mechanic in the East Blue—Renitia! Can't you tell that I made that stone door on the island?"
It would be impossible for ordinary people to carve out a massive cave inside an island that could dock a ship, let alone create a stone door mechanism. Only someone with her ability to manipulate objects could achieve such a feat.
"The best shipwright is a little girl? That's a bold claim," Aggin said in astonishment.
"You dumb ape with your thick lips and black skin!" Renitia snapped at him, baring her teeth.
Aggin's mouth fell open at the insult, feeling struck.
Palu raised his hand and asked, "Is there another Iron Man? Can you make another one? I want one."
He still had his heart set on the Iron Man, even though the captain had destroyed it. After all, it was an Iron Man!
If he could ride on the Iron Man, he would truly be the invincible Iron Palu!
"Shut up, you blockhead! That ugly iron shield of yours, did your mom weld it on? It looks like a turtle shell! If you say one more word, I'll hammer you to death!"
Renitia rolled her eyes at him and then turned to Sage, shouting, "Anyway, the ship is gone now, and a lot of people will be coming down soon. Just wait for your death, you idiots who almost ruined the value of this ship!"
Sage twitched at the corner of his eye. Not only was she a little girl, but she was also a short-tempered one with a foul mouth.
Lily couldn't help but speak up. "A ship is meant for sailing, and that's all it's worth. No matter how good a ship is, it's still just a ship."
"Oh? You're not stupid, that's true," Renitia said, not arguing but nodding in agreement. "But the sea is different. There are massive waves, gloomy storms, sea beast attacks, cannon fire in battles, bad luck with reefs, and the turbulent currents of the Upside-Down Mountain."
"It's such a shame that people might not reach their destination just because of their ship. They might perish at sea just because their ship couldn't withstand the challenges of the ocean. It's not that their ship had reached the end of its lifespan, but because of unforeseen circumstances at sea!"
Gripping the hammer's handle tightly, she declared loudly, "The ships I build will never be destroyed by weather, currents, or battles. I want everyone to be able to sail safely on the high seas! That's the true value of this ship, something you pirates will never understand!"
Her words rang loud and clear, leaving the pirates staring at each other in awe. What she said seemed to make sense.
"So that's your reason for robbing so many towns?" Sage clicked his tongue.
"Who told them not to give it to me? They wouldn't even sell it to me for money!" Renitia gritted her teeth. "They insisted on calling it a treasure and wanted to hold a grand market for everyone to see. The price would've skyrocketed, so I might as well just take it!"
She raised her head and continued, "The sun sail cloth from Campas Town has the durability to withstand cannonballs and the strongest storms without being torn. The ironwood from Ward Town is as hard as steel, immune to reefs and rapid currents. And the iron from Money Town has the best malleability, stabilizing the ship and preventing it from disintegrating or ripping apart, even when used to make cannons."
"The materials from other towns, when combined to create a giant ship, will ensure that no wave can flip it over! That's a ship worth sailing on!"
"So what does that have to do with me?"
Instead of getting angry, Sage laughed. "In fact, the more you talk, the more I want that ship. After all, you've been robbing places left and right, pinning the blame on me. There should be a price to pay for that, so I'll gladly take that ship!"
What a great find!
He had initially thought that the ship was just a bonus because of its size and that it was better than a warship. But now it turned out to be an even greater treasure!
A ship that couldn't be capsized by waves, sunk by reefs, or affected by any current—it was perfect for his bad luck!
With this thought, Sage's laughter grew merrier. "After carrying the blame for a few days, I've finally stumbled upon a treasure. It truly is Nadia's treasure!"
"It's Nadia, you idiot!" Lily's temples throbbed with a burst of blue veins. "How many times do I have to correct you?"
"Robbery."
Renitia paused for a moment, then realized, "Are you the Black Sail Pirate who was misunderstood? I think I've heard of you. There was a group of pirates who took our place under the navy's watchful eye. So it was you guys. No wonder you ended up here. Fine, you're forgiven."
"That's right, Murdoch took the ship. He promised me that as soon as the ship was ready, he'd help me promote it and make it famous worldwide." Renitia continued, "Once it gains notoriety, people will come from far and wide with precious materials, and I can teach them while building more ships. Then I can give you one."
Renitia waved her hand dismissively. "You guys should leave now. Come back after I've made a name for myself, and we'll let bygones be bygones."
"That won't do," Sage replied, glancing at the nearby spiral staircase. "I plan to ask the king here for compensation."
"I don't care if I die. Murdoch is the king of the Nadian Kingdom, and he has an army of over two thousand men," she retorted.
"It's Nadia!" Lily couldn't help but shout in exasperation.
"Ah, it's all the same. Is there some other meaning to it?" Renitia asked, confused.
Lily was momentarily lost for words. She didn't know if there was another meaning, but she felt that coming from Sage's mouth, it didn't sound quite right.
As a righteous princess knight, she instinctively disliked hearing that term.
"Anyway, I've already given the ship to him. If you still want to take it, then prepare to die," Renitia said, reaching for the intercom again. "Hey, Murdoch, why aren't you coming down yet? Are you constipated? You old fool, I told you not to get too chummy with those royal guards."
"I'm not an old fool! I haven't gotten close to the royal guards! And I don't have hemorrhoids! Also—"
A roar suddenly erupted from the intercom: "I'm not old!!"
Soon, the roar softened into a low chuckle. "Hehehe, I heard everything, and I've seen the ship. Well done, Renitia. You're a genius, but also a fool. Why would I let a ship like this be known to the world when I can keep it for myself and maximize its benefits?"
"Why?! You promised to make it famous and let everyone sail safely!" Renitia shouted.
"You're as naive as your master!" the voice on the intercom replied coldly. "The materials used for this ship take two to three decades to mature. They're expensive and have a slow production cycle. Your master waited so many years and was executed before he could even get his hands on them. How could I possibly let the whole world use them?"
"Those civilians sailing the seas can't afford a ship like this. How long would I have to wait for the next one to be completed? It's too slow!"
"Master..." Renitia's figure swayed, and her face paled as her eyes reddened. "You're saying my master died in a maritime accident while collecting materials?! You old fool! Did you kill my master?!"
"I'm not old! I'm only forty, still young!" the intercom roared again before calming down. "That guy always wanted to make the technology public, but the materials weren't ready yet. I had no choice but to execute him."
A ruthless laugh echoed from the intercom: "I want this ship because of the Black Sail Pirates! Think about it—a ship that's faster than any warship, impervious to wind and waves, and immune to cannon fire. With it, I can let the pirates ravage the East Blue! And the best part is you, Norton Sage!"
The voice grew manic: "I've already heard your name from the Navy—Norton Sage, the Black Sail Pirate who plundered several towns and destroyed a kingdom! Your existence perfectly fills the gap in my plan!"
"I've always thought that no matter how well I hide my Black Sail Pirates, they'd eventually be discovered. But now, as long as you act under your name, the Navy won't pay attention to me. No matter how much I plunder, they'll think it's your doing. It's the perfect cover!"
"And the final step in my plan is for you all to die here so that no one will ever know where this ship came from. The Black Sail Pirates will forever be your moniker, and they will also be my greatest asset! Hahahaha!"
BOOM!!
The sound from above grew louder, and black smoke filled the air as the entire cave trembled with a powerful vibration. Aggin and the others stumbled, their eyes widening in surprise.
The surroundings were cracking.
