Chapter 28:
Chapter 28: "I Have Special Teaching Techniques"
Hermione asked, "Professor, what is the purpose of this runic circuit?"
Felix waved his wand, and a piece of chestnut wood floated from her hand into the air, drawing their attention.
"This piece of chestnut wood has only one explosive runic circuit, which is very unstable. Just a slight guidance, like this..." He snapped his fingers lightly.
"Boom!"
The chestnut wood piece exploded with a loud bang and a burst of fire, startling Hermione.
Then, Felix demonstrated a few more runic circuits to Hermione, giving her a basic understanding of his research.
"That's enough for today. Tomorrow, I'll start teaching you Ancient Runes."
Before they knew it, it was already half past nine.
Hermione returned to the common room and saw Harry, covered in dust and looking exhausted, sprawled on the table, idly toying with a wizard chess piece. The "insulted" knight kept jabbing Harry's fingers with its miniature lance.
Ron was working on his Potions homework, with three reference answers spread out in front of him.
Seeing Hermione return, Harry couldn't help but ask, "How was your first day as an Ancient Runes Class Assistant?"
Hermione smiled, "It was fantastic!"
Ron was curious about her duties, "What did you do? Grade papers?"
"Yes, I only handled part of the fifth and seventh-year papers. You see, not many students choose Ancient Runes in sixth and seventh years, and they have classes together from all four houses."
Ron suddenly became animated, "If I were you, I'd deduct a lot of points from Slytherin's papers."
Hermione's face turned serious, "Ron, I have to be responsible for my duties."
Ron deflated like a punctured balloon, slumping on the table.
"Harry, how was your Quidditch practice?" Hermione inquired.
"It's the same as usual, especially since Fred and George Weasley got some intel from Slytherin. The Nimbus 2001 is so fast, you can't even see their faces", Harry said pessimistically.
Hermione couldn't do much about it. The whole school had little confidence in the first match between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were more interested in seeing the practical power of the Nimbus 2001 to prepare their own strategies.
The team's morale was low. Wood confided in Harry, "Our brooms can't match Slytherin's, but if you're fast enough and catch the Golden Snitch early..."
This only added to Harry's pressure.
...
On Sunday evening, Hermione returned to Professor Hup's office.
From a distance, she suddenly saw Malfoy leaving the office. Hermione quickly hid behind a pillar, watching as Professor Hup spoke to Malfoy, who nodded repeatedly.
Her mood became complicated.
Inside the office, Hermione sat quietly on the sofa, watching Felix wave his wand and move a stack of parchment to the corner.
Could it be Malfoy's essay?
Hermione's mind raced with various thoughts. She wanted to ask Professor Hup why Malfoy was there, but she wisely kept quiet.
As before, Felix sat on the other side of the small table, with ten pieces of chestnut wood in front of him, each engraved with a Runic Script.
"Today, we will begin our practical study of Ancient Runes." He emphasized the word "practical."
"These ten Runic Scripts have different magical meanings. For example, this one", he pointed to the first piece of chestnut wood, "represents the concept of Connection. Specifically, it can connect similar Runic Scripts, such as liquid or flowing elements, or generally related concepts, like explosion and stability..."
"In practical application, I have found that it can transform into seven different forms, each suitable for..."
Felix spoke for an hour straight, his throat parched.
"Next, we will conduct a practical exercise."
Seeing Hermione take out her wand, Felix smiled. "Our practice doesn't require a wand."
"I once told Professor Mcgonagall that I have a special teaching technique."
Hermione was still a bit puzzled, but Felix had already leaned forward, gently touching the tip of his wand to the young witch's forehead while muttering a spell under his breath.
She suddenly felt her vision blur, the office furnishings rippling and distorting like water, colors blending together, making her feel as though she were inside an abstract painting.
But soon, the distorted environment returned to normal.
She was surprised to find that she and the professor were still sitting on the couch, but a small coffee table between them had split the room in half. On the professor's side, the space was piled high with books of various colors, numbering in the thousands.
These books were arranged in over a dozen stacks, seemingly representing different categories.
But what caught her eye most were the Ancient Runes that danced on the books. They glowed in different colors—bright red, emerald green, cypress blue, metallic sheen...
Hundreds of Ancient Runes, like tiny sprites, darted around the half of the room.
Hermione couldn't resist standing up. She glanced at Professor Hup, who waved his hand slightly, indicating she was free to explore.
The young witch stepped over an invisible barrier, and an Ancient Rune flew up to her. Hermione couldn't help but cup the little thing in her hands, letting it bounce and jump.
When it finally hopped away, she reluctantly shifted her gaze. She wandered among the stacks, browsing through the titles quickly—
The History of Ancient Runes, Exploring Ancient Runes, Ancient Alchemy Exploration, Principles of Spells, Advanced Spell Analysis, Selected Transfigurations, Book of Duels, Art of Dueling, Ravenclaw Manuscript (Volume 1), Illustrated Guide to Dangerous Magical Creatures, Magic, Advanced Ancient Runes, Charms of Alchemy...
There were too many, and they were all massive tomes. Hermione even spotted a book two feet tall and half a foot thick.
Even as a top student, she couldn't help but feel a bit intimidated. She resolved to herself that she would read as many books as this in the future...
She stepped over a tall stack of books, avoiding a deep green curtain that fluttered without a breeze. In front of her was a pile of Muggle books: Thought Experiments, Secrets of the Human Brain, Mind Analysis, Selected World Jokes...
She even found a complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica, her childhood favorite!
Besides these more normal books, in one corner of the room, there were seven or eight books scattered about, emitting a constant black mist. If she stared at them closely, she could faintly hear the wailing of a male wizard.
Could these be Dark Magic books? The young witch was a bit taken aback and glanced nervously at the professor.
