Chapter 279: Divine Abomination
Chapter 279: Divine Abomination
November 9th, 2024
"The various sorcerer forces have negotiated and decided to divide the Toxic Sovereign's head equally."
On the second day of their arrival in the mountain forest, Cyril brought new information to Su Nan.
"Divide it equally?" Su Nan's eyes flickered slightly.
This outcome was somewhat expected.
Divine bodies are vastly different from ordinary beings, with no concept of vital vulnerabilities or critical organs.
The head, throat, and heart are no different from other body parts.
A head is no more valuable than limbs of the same volume.
So, it was not surprising that the Toxic Sovereign's head would be divided.
It seemed that with so many sorcerer forces involved, none had the confidence to claim it alone, leading to the agreement of equal division.
"How many divine corpse fragments are yet to be discovered?" Su Nan asked further, "I believe you've all compared the number of divine corpse fragments in your possession, right?"
Cyril looked at Su Nan in surprise and couldn't help but exclaim, "Sometimes I really wonder if you're a veteran sorcerer who has lived for five or six thousand years, knowing the styles of the major sorcerer forces so thoroughly."
"Indeed, we have exchanged intelligence. We're only missing the head. Once we obtain it, the Toxic Sovereign's divine corpse will be complete."
Li Ze, standing nearby, asked curiously, "Which sorcerer force has collected the most divine corpse fragments?"
Cyril spread his hands and said, "The Celestial Tower. Their efficiency in matters related to divine beings is always astonishingly high."
After some casual conversation, Cyril steered the topic back on track.
"Tomorrow, the major sorcerer forces will send a portion of their members to cooperate in dealing with the divine creatures in the mountain forest."
"Lord Ronnin has instructed that this battle does not require the involvement of affiliated organizations. You can prepare to evacuate. Once we find the Toxic Sovereign's head and obtain our share, this contest will be over, and you'll be able to leave the Crystal Plane."
After delivering the message, Cyril didn't linger and hurried back to the Codex of Wisdom's base to prepare for the upcoming battle.
"It's finally coming to an end," Li Ze sighed in relief.
This was her first time leading a plane war, second only to Su Nan in authority, and the pressure she felt was unimaginable.
Although the contest had only lasted a little over six months, it felt like an eternity.
"It's ending?" Su Nan's eyes flickered.
He was becoming increasingly certain that the Toxic Sovereign's head might be the catalyst for the sorcerer civil war.
This operation might not go as smoothly as Cyril and the others imagined.
"What is it?"
Seeing Su Nan deep in thought, Li Ze asked with confusion.
Su Nan shook his head and said, "Have all troops board the Sorcerer Towers, Star Fortresses, and Demon Ships, ready to evacuate at any moment."
After more than half a year of battle, the Star Alliance's golem legions had suffered significant losses, and their numbers had dwindled. With the addition of the twelve Sorcerer Towers 'donated' by Blackthorn Tower, even without the use of the mana cube, the Star Alliance had more than enough Sorcerer Towers and War Constructs to transport all their forces.
Li Ze looked at Su Nan with curiosity but didn't question further. She nodded in agreement and turned to carry out the order.
The next day, at noon.
A group of sorcerers gathered at the entrance to the mountain forest.
Considering the need to deal with divine creatures, the least powerful sorcerers sent by the various forces were Second Tier Wizards.
Standing at the forefront were over a dozen True Spirit Heirs, mostly leaders of the major sorcerer forces.
The concentrated mental energy of over a hundred elite sorcerers formed a powerful mental force field that enveloped the mountain forest, creating a palpable sense of oppression even from a distance.
Su Nan gazed from afar, watching as over a hundred sorcerers flew into the forest, led by the True Spirit Heirs.
Soon, intense energy particle fluctuations erupted within the forest.
According to Cyril, there were over sixty divine creatures roaming the forest, making it the largest group they had encountered so far.
Among them were several Second Tier creatures, and even two or three that had reached the Third Tier.
However, even with their formidable array of high-level combatants, the sorcerers faced a formidable challenge.
Su Nan could clearly sense the divine energy within the forest rapidly diminishing.
After about half an hour, the energy particle fluctuations in the forest ceased entirely, indicating the battle's conclusion.
All that remained was to retrieve the Toxic Sovereign's head from the cave, and the mission would be a complete success.
"Now, we'll see what secrets the cave holds."
A faint glimmer flashed in Su Nan's eyes.
At the same time, the team formed by the alliance of the Sorcerer forces had already reached the entrance of the cave.
Feeling the majestic Divine Energy emanating from within, the True Spirit Heirs, led by Roning and Bo Ben, couldn't help but share a faint glimmer of joy in their eyes.
Roning and Bo Ben exchanged a glance and entered the cave side by side.
Both were outstanding among the younger generation of True Spirit Heirs, and in this operation, they were naturally acknowledged as the leaders of their respective factions.
To prevent any foul play, this final step was naturally to be taken together.
The other Sorcerers waited outside.
The cave wasn't large, only about two to three hundred square meters. The walls were uneven, covered in sharp protrusions, and the ground was marked with numerous animal footprints, obviously left by the Divine Creatures outside.
As soon as they entered the cave, Roning and Bo Ben's attention was immediately drawn to an object deep inside.
It was an enormous head, its skin an emerald hue, with a hideous and ferocious expression. The bald head was covered in dense, swollen lumps, and beneath the thin, stretched skin, one could vaguely see the green pus within.
Two sharp fangs protruded from the upper lip, emitting a chilling glow.
Even though it was the remains of a fallen Divine Being, and only a head, in the moment of close confrontation, powerful individuals like Roning and Bo Ben still felt an indescribable pressure bearing down on them.
A Subtle Intent intruded into the depths of their consciousness, swirling with vague prayers and chants, attempting to twist their will!
Bo Ben snorted, mobilizing his mental power to instantly disperse the intent from his mind.
At the same time, Roning's eyes only flickered for a moment before quickly regaining clarity.
"Even a deceased Divine Being possesses such formidable might; I can't imagine how terrifying a living one would be," Roning sighed.
Bo Ben gave him a sidelong glance and scoffed, "It's just a Divine Being. How many have died at the hands of Sorcerers? One day, I'll slay a god with my own hands and bring their corpse back to the lab as material."
Roning smiled faintly and said, "Good ambition. Then you can take care of sealing the Toxic Sovereign's head."
Bo Ben pouted but didn't refuse. With a thought, his shoulder skin split open, and a pale bone protruded, rapidly expanding into a massive bone claw that reached for the Divine Being's head on the ground.
Just at that moment, the previously motionless Toxic Sovereign suddenly opened its eyes, its gray-green irises staring coldly at the approaching bone claw.
The next instant, a thick Toxic Mist erupted!
Upon contact with the mist, the bone claw sizzled as if corroded by strong sulfuric acid, quickly dissolving and spreading upwards.
Bo Ben's face changed abruptly, and he decisively severed the bone claw.
"What's going on?"
Roning's expression also changed, his gaze fixed on the Toxic Mist. His eyes glowed with a faint bluish light, and the once-dense and blurry mist in his vision suddenly became clear, revealing the situation within.
The Toxic Sovereign's head was melting like heated butter, quickly transforming into a revolting ball of flesh that rapidly expanded to a height of about two meters.
A tear appeared in the flesh, and a hideous figure emerged.
"Roar!"
A prehistoric beast-like roar echoed through the cave, shaking loose dirt and stones from the walls.
The creature that emerged from the flesh was about two meters tall, a robust humanoid with thick, dark green skin. Its demonic face resembled a skull with a protruding lower jaw, its muscles knotted, and its hunched form wielded two claw-like hands as sharp as blades.
"A Divine Creature?" Bo Ben furrowed his brows.
"No!" Roning's expression had turned grave, "Divine Creatures are transformed by Divine infection; they couldn't have come from a Divine Being's corpse!"
Reminded by Roning, Bo Ben seemed to realize something, and his face turned ashen.
"A Divine Abomination?"
"Most likely."
Divine Abominations were known to be extremely fearsome creatures in the Sorcerer world, a universally acknowledged fact.
The origin of Divine Abominations could no longer be verified. Some believed they were living weapons created during the ancient wars between Divine Beings, while others thought they were the result of failed Divine power experiments.)
However, after years of research, Sorcerers could only confirm one birth method for Divine Abominations: under specific conditions, the corpses of fallen Divine Beings undergo mutations, giving birth to Divine Abominations.
The power of these Abominations depends on the strength of the Divine Being's body from which they were born and the integrity of the corpse.
The powerful ones possess strength comparable to, or even surpassing, that of divine beings.
Even the weak ones have strength approaching that of True Spirit Wizards.
Due to the intense radiation energy emanating from Divine Abominations, they can infect nearby weak creatures, transforming them into mindless monsters driven by destruction and devastation. Thus, the appearance of a Divine Abomination often leads to the collapse and destruction of a world, or even an entire plane.
When it comes to dealing with such beings, the multiverse has only one consensus: total annihilation!
Roning and Bo Ben never expected to encounter the birth of a Divine Abomination, an event with an extremely low probability, in this place.
"The birth of a Divine Abomination requires not only a divine corpse as a host but also a massive energy source nearby for it to absorb!"
Roning's gaze swept the surroundings.
His intention was clear; there must be an energy source hidden within this cave.
However, their confusion was short-lived.
As the Divine Abomination, resembling a robust humanoid creature, took a step forward, the cave wall behind it suddenly shattered, revealing a cavity beneath.
Inside the cavity, a colorful mass of light, as if the most dazzling brilliance in the world had gathered to form a floating orb, slowly rotated like a vortex.
A strange wave instantly enveloped the entire cave.
The energy in the air became intensely active in an instant.
Even without consciously absorbing the energy particles, Roning and Bo Ben could clearly feel them frantically entering their bodies at that moment.
In that instant, a sudden realization dawned on both of them.
Within just a breath or two, the stagnant understanding of the Laws, which had been stalled for so long, suddenly took a significant leap forward!
Seeing this, the two of them couldn't help but show expressions of both elation and shock, almost simultaneously exclaiming aloud.
"Law Source Vein!"
"Roar!"
A deafening roar responded to their exclamations.
Roning and Bo Ben snapped out of their elation, realizing that this wasn't the time for celebration.
As the Divine Abomination charged towards them, the two focused their gazes, without hesitation, and unleashed their innate abilities.
A crashing sound filled the cave, like surging waves.
Countless azure ripples appeared out of thin air, rushing forward like a tidal wave.
The moment the Divine Abomination collided with the azure ripples, it was as if it had fallen into the deep sea, its body momentarily halted by the pressure squeezing in from all directions.
Seizing this opportunity, Bo Ben clenched his right hand into a fist and forcefully struck the palm of his left hand, creating a muffled thud followed by the appearance of an egg-sized wound in his palm.
Blackish-gray liquid gushed out of the wound.
Despite the small wound, it gave the impression of a breached dam, with waves of liquid surging forth.
In the blink of an eye, a torrent of black-gray liquid formed, roaring as it swept towards the Divine Abomination, intent on engulfing and drowning it! This was the top ten innate ability of the Dark Throne, 'Dark Water.'
"Roar!"
The Divine Abomination let out a roar, and thick, sickly green mist emerged from its pores, enveloping its body and forming a semi-transparent mist armor.
The moment the armor took shape, its previously slowed movements resumed with thunderous force, crashing into the oncoming Dark Water!
The Dark Water, capable of eroding and assimilating all life, shattered upon impact with the Divine Abomination, scattering in all directions.
In contrast, the Divine Abomination showed no signs of damage, except for a slightly thinner mist around its body.
Witnessing this, Roning and Bo Wen were both horrified.
Even though they had studied the information about Divine Abominations, it was only after this encounter that they truly understood the terror of these monsters, despised and feared by countless races.
Below the level of True Spirit Wizards, they might not stand a chance against this Divine Abomination!
The two exchanged a glance, almost simultaneously turning around and dashing out of the cave without hesitation.
The wizards outside had sensed something amiss upon hearing the roar and were hesitating about entering when they saw Roning and Bo Wen rush out, their faces unusually flustered.
"Run!"
"Get out of here!"
Roning and Bo Ben simultaneously ordered their companions from the Azure Alliance and the Dark Throne.
The wizards from the two factions, though puzzled, obeyed without question and immediately left.
The other wizards were momentarily stunned, only to see a hideous figure emerge from the cave.
The next instant, a torrent of withering green fog swept through, engulfing the surroundings.)
