Chapter 278: I Never Make Choices, I'll Take All These Classes!
Chapter 278: I Never Make Choices, I’ll Take All These Classes!
Before he knew it, only a week remained until September, and the weather was gradually turning cooler. A letter from Hogwarts was delivered accurately to Ivan's hands.
Ivan tore open the envelope and glanced inside, finding a book list for the upcoming school year.
"Is it time to go back to school already?" Ivan placed the letter aside and sighed.
A few days ago, he and Sirius Black had spent the entire night searching Borgin and Burkes, turning the place upside down, but found little of interest.
For this reason, Ivan had to temporarily give up his search for Borgin. After all, he didn't know if the mastermind was still alive.
So over the past few days, Ivan had focused his energy on researching why the Polyjuice Potion had suddenly become ineffective.
The hair taken from "Aisha's" corpse could be integrated into the Polyjuice Potion, changing a person's appearance, which confirmed that his previous theories and conclusions were correct.
What needed to be considered was how to solve the problem of the potion's unstable effects when used on the dead. This was the main cause of the conflict.
After a period of research, Ivan discovered that there was only one way to solve this problem:
Improve the potion to make the Polyjuice Potion's effects more stable!
This was undoubtedly a very difficult task. Ivan had no relevant experience and didn't even know where to start.
Fortunately, Ivan quickly remembered the research notes Severus Snape had left in Advanced Potion-Making. The notes didn't just record self-created spells like Sectumsempra; more importantly, they contained Snape's insights into researching and improving potions.
"Sir, it's time to eat", Dobby placed a few plates on the round table beside him, carefully reminding him.
"Alright!" Ivan nodded, flipping through Snape's notes as he sat down on a stool next to the round table.
A moment later, a large black dog ran over from a distance, transforming into its original form as it reached the table. It skillfully sat opposite Ivan and grabbed a piece of steak, stuffing it into its mouth.
Ivan didn't mind. While he had been busy researching how to improve the Polyjuice Potion, Sirius Black hadn't been idle either. He would go out to gather intelligence whenever he had free time.
Occasionally, Sirius would also go to the outskirts of The Leaky Cauldron to watch Harry from a distance, or scout around The Burrow, returning for meals every day.
"Did you go to The Burrow again?" Ivan looked at Sirius's weary appearance and, considering he hadn't returned on time, quickly deduced his whereabouts. He frowned and continued, "I should have told you not to approach there casually. If you raise Peter Pettigrew's suspicions and he escapes, you'll never find him again."
"Don't worry, I just wanted to confirm if that family had returned from their vacation and if Peter was still in the little wizard's hands", Sirius grinned, his face twisted in a grimace.
Today, while he was wandering around the Weasley residence, he happened to see the Weasley family return from their vacation and noticed the rat in Ron's arms.
Peter was well-fed and had no sense of danger, indicating that he was living quite comfortably.
At the time, Sirius almost couldn't resist the urge to rush over and tear Peter to shreds.
"You should be careful! If you kill him now, you'll never be able to clear your name. Think about it, Harry", Ivan glanced at Sirius's grim expression and warned him.
Sirius nodded and quickly composed himself. More importantly, he couldn't find an opportunity to kill Peter. The Weasleys weren't easy to provoke, and if he were caught while breaking into their house, it would be the end.
After a hurried lunch, Sirius noticed Ivan, who had been engrossed in his books the whole time, and felt a bit helpless. Over the past few days, Sirius had observed that Ivan spent almost all his time reading and conducting strange potion experiments, only resting for two or three hours a day.
Sirius opened his mouth but didn't know how to comfort him. He guessed that Ivan was trying to forget Aisha's death by immersing himself in intense studies, but this couldn't go on forever!
"Hogwarts is about to start, isn't it? It's almost September", Sirius's eyes swept over the letter Ivan had thrown on the table, and he changed the subject.
"Hals, I remember that third-year students at Hogwarts have to choose their subjects. Do you need some advice?"
"In my opinion, Divination and Muggle Studies aren't very useful. Divination requires exceptional talent in prophecy, and without that talent, it's nearly impossible to learn. Muggle Studies don't offer much practical knowledge, so you shouldn't waste your time on those. I suggest you consider Ancient Runes; it could be very beneficial for you", Sirius spoke confidently, sharing his personal experiences.
He felt that since Ivan's parents were gone, he should take on some of the responsibilities of an elder if he could.
Ivan stopped flipping through his book, looked at Sirius, who was about to give him a rundown of each subject, and shook his head, interrupting him.
"No, thank you. I don't plan to make any choices. I want to take every class!"
"Are you sure?" Sirius was taken aback and looked at Ivan with a strange expression, trying to dissuade him.
"Hals, while your desire to learn more subjects is commendable, many of them are not useful and will divide your attention. Besides, once you get your schedule, you'll see that many classes conflict with each other!"
"I think the professors will find a way to resolve the scheduling conflicts", Ivan shook his head and didn't say much more.
He had made this decision to obtain a Time Turner. This magical device that could reverse time was strictly guarded by the Ministry of Magic, and ordinary wizards had almost no chance of accessing such items.
Ivan had no confidence in breaking into the Ministry to steal one.
So the best opportunity to get a Time Turner was to follow Hermione's example from the original timeline. He would select all the subjects in his third year and have a professor vouch for him, applying to the Ministry for a Time Turner.
The Ministry wouldn't refuse a young wizard who was enthusiastic about learning, law-abiding, and had excellent performance. After all, he had just received the highest honor in the wizarding world, the Order of Merlin. He believed the Ministry would give him this much respect.
