Chapter 277: Entangling One's Own Downfall
Chapter 277: Entangling One's Own Downfall
"Boom!"
A loud noise echoed as a massive iron cage suddenly descended from a pitch-black hole above the cave, encapsulating He Xiu entirely within it.
He Tianqing and the crowd from Tianqin Gate were bewildered, but Du Gu Yihe's expression turned grim. He pulled Ma Xiuzhen to have her scout for an exit route.
Lu Xiaofeng turned back and, seeing Zhu Ting was also present, confidently turned around and teased He Xiu, "When did you turn into a bird? Why lock yourself in a cage?"
He Xiu took another leisurely sip of wine, "When I realized I couldn't defeat any of you, that's when I became a bird."
Lu Xiaofeng asked, "A wrinkled old bird—do you think locking yourself in a cage will make us spare you?"
He Xiu smiled, "Do you find that amusing?"
Lu Xiaofeng nodded, "Indeed, it is quite amusing."
He Xiu's gaze swept across the crowd, "After I leave, you won't find it amusing anymore. When you're on the brink of starvation, nothing will seem funny at all."
Everyone's expressions changed drastically, and they immediately turned back, only to see Ma Xiuzhen crawling out of the tunnel, her face pale. She nodded to Du Gu Yihe, "The stone door leading outside has been sealed!"
He Xiu's laughter rang out behind them, "The only way out is right beneath this stone platform I'm sitting on. I know this 1,980-catty iron cage won't hold you forever, but I assure you that once I leave, I won't forget to seal this path as well."
He Tianqing, the Tianqin Gate disciples, and the trio of Ma Xiuzhen all wore unsightly expressions, but Lu Xiaofeng, Hua Manlou, Du Gu Yihe, and Su Shaoying remained unfazed.
He Xiu looked at the group, a mocking smile on his face, "Of course, I can also assure you that aside from this pot of wine in my hand, there is no other food or drink here. You'll have to resort to eating each other's flesh and drinking each other's blood."
He Tianqing's face turned ashen, and he could no longer hold back. With a wave of his hands, four darts shot out, riding the wind toward He Xiu.
However, He Xiu didn't even try to dodge. He simply extended his hand, and the four darts were effortlessly captured in his palm, like swallows returning to the forest.
He Tianqing's expression changed, and even Lu Xiaofeng raised his eyebrows in admiration, "Impressive skill!"
He Xiu smiled faintly, his gaze shifting to Lu Xiaofeng and Du Gu Yihe, "Do you two want to give it a try as well? If not, then I'll be on my way."
Lu Xiaofeng's eyes flickered, and before he could speak, Du Gu Yihe's deep voice cut through the tension, "Go ahead and leave. I give you three days. After that, whether you're in heaven or earth, I will kill you."
He Xiu's smile finally faded, and he lifted his eyes to meet Du Gu Yihe's gaze, "Do you think you'll make it out of here alive?"
"You can't trap us." Du Gu Yihe stated calmly.
"Oh? And why is that?" He Xiu asked.
"Perhaps you can trap Lu Xiaofeng by himself, or perhaps me by myself." Du Gu Yihe said nonchalantly, "But with all of us here together, how could you possibly trap us all in this place?"
A cold smile played at Du Gu Yihe's lips, "All it takes is killing two people. Their flesh and blood will provide us with the strength needed to break free."
As soon as these words left his mouth, the Tianqin Gate disciples instinctively took a few steps away from Du Gu Yihe. Even Lu Xiaofeng felt a chill rise from the soles of his feet.
"Master, you're amazing!" Su Shaoying gave Du Gu Yihe a thumbs up, then turned to He Xiu with a raised eyebrow, "Now it's your turn. How do you plan to respond?"
He Xiu's smile had vanished, replaced by a solemn expression. The disciples of Emei and Tianqin Gates were all armed, and with enough stamina, they could indeed dig their way out through the cave.
Lu Xiaofeng's nonchalance and Dugu Yihe's calm cruelty made Huo Xiu feel uneasy, prompting him to want to leave early and put this matter behind him.
"As soon as I push this button, my men will vanish, and you will never see me again," Huo Xiu said, scanning the crowd once more. "I will miss you all, and I truly hope to hear your desperate cries from outside."
As his words landed, he pushed the button.
The room fell silent as everyone watched Huo Xiu, curious to see how he would disappear.
However, Huo Xiu didn't vanish. Instead, his expression froze, and beads of sweat began to form on his forehead and temples.
Lu Xiaofeng blinked, then asked, "Why aren't you leaving?"
Huo Xiu's eyes widened as he looked at Lu Xiaofeng and then at Dugu Yihe, his lips turning white.
"Did you test this mechanism before?" Su Shaoying asked. "Could it be that it's been too long since it was last used, and it's malfunctioned?"
Despite the dire situation, Ma Xiuzhen and the other women, along with several Tianqin Gate disciples, couldn't help but laugh. Huo Xiu couldn't contain his anger and abruptly stood up, glaring at Su Shaoying. "Was it you?"
"Of course not," Su Shaoying replied innocently. "I've just been an onlooker this whole time. Can't you tell?"
"But I think there's something else you should be concerned about right now," Su Shaoying continued with a smile. "Don't you feel like you're just a sitting duck, unable to move?"
Huo Xiu was left speechless, while the faces of the Tianqin Gate disciples brightened.
Jian Er took a step forward and, speaking through the bars of the cage, addressed Huo Xiu. "Tell us how to activate the mechanism to open the cage, or we'll make sure you suffer both in life and death!"
Huo Xiu regained his composure and, looking at the impoverished scholar before him, smiled coldly. "You're overthinking this. Do you really think I'd leave you with a way out after I've made my preparations to depart?"
Jian Er took two steps back, unsure if they would have to resort to cannibalism to escape.
But Lu Xiaofeng laughed. "Are you so certain you've got us figured out?"
Huo Xiu replied indifferently, "Don't you want to eat people?"
Lu Xiaofeng glanced at Su Shaoying. "Do you want to eat people?"
Su Shaoying didn't answer but instead turned to Zhu Ting. "We don't necessarily need to eat two people."
The fat on Zhu Ting's face twitched, and then they heard Lu Xiaofeng continue with a smile, "What you say makes sense. Some people can indeed be as useful as two."
Zhu Ting couldn't hold back and turned to Hua Manlou. "I used to like that kid, but I guess I was blind."
"They're just joking," Hua Manlou said with a smile. "Who would've thought Su Erxia would know the boss so well?"
No one understood what they were hinting at, and then they heard Su Shaoying say to Dugu Yihe, "Zhu Ting's nickname is 'Boss,' and he's the best mechanism maker in the world. Unless Huo Xiu has completely sealed the exit with a massive stone, he will definitely be able to open the mechanism."
Dugu Yihe nodded, his expression turning serious as he sheathed his sword and stepped forward. "In that case, it's time to settle the score with Huo Xiu and Huo Tianqing."
Huo Xiu's face twisted in anger, while Huo Tianqing's face turned ashen.
