Chapter 276: You're a Failed Navy
Chapter 276: You’re a Failed Navy
As his fist began its descent, a chill suddenly pierced Ehrnando’s neck, causing his pupils to contract. Instinctively, he shifted his punch upward.
Clang!
A massive force sent Ehrnando flying backward, slamming into the rocky cliffside at the base of the hill, leaving a deep indentation.
“Hmph!”
Spitting out a cough, Ehrnando bit his lip and steadied himself, pulling free from the rock as he glared at the young man who had appeared beside Zeff.
The man gripped a Black Blade crackling with golden lightning, a cigar dangling from his lips. He tilted his head upward, smirking, “Advanced Armament Haki? Not very refined, huh? Only one punch in you?”
A gash had opened on Ehrnando’s arm, bleeding steadily despite the protective Haki aura.
Ehrnando inspected his wound, flicking the blood away with a casual swing. Frowning, he narrowed his gaze at the enemy. “Lucius Kro? What are you doing here?”
He recognized the man—this new-generation Navy Commander who had shone brightly during the Top War.
“Who do you think you’re talking to?”
Kuro slung his blade over his shoulder, exhaling a plume of smoke. “I’m a Navy Commander. This is my station base. If I’m not here, where else am I supposed to be?”
“As for you—very gutsy, ex-Vice Admiral turned pirate? What for? One Piece? That dream-chasing crap makes me want to puke!”
“Ehrnando Officer!”
The pirate who had been preparing to move earlier jumped down, worry etched on his face. “You alright?”
Ehrnando gave Kuro a long, searching look before shaking his head. “I’m fine. With him here, looks like I won’t get to catch up with our teacher. Shu Di Ka, get ready.”
“Yes.”
The pirate reached out to touch Ehrnando’s shoulder, but before he could finish—
“Shu Di Ka?! You’re Shu Di Ka?!”
Ai En, who had been supporting Binz, suddenly cried out. “Why did you become a pirate too, Shu Di Ka?!”
The pirate stiffened, lowering the hood from her head to reveal a delicate face—indeed a woman.
“It’s been a while, Ai En,” she murmured softly.
“Shu Di Ka…”
Zeff’s entire body trembled. “Why? Why have you, who once swore to uphold justice, fallen so far?”
“Zeff-sensei, everyone has their own path to walk. The die has already been cast,” Shu Di Ka shook her head. “Perhaps you should focus on dealing with the current situation, teacher.”
“You two!”
Zeff’s veins bulged as he stomped forward, his left fist cloaked in Armament Haki. “I’ll drag you back and make you face judgment!”
“Old man, don’t lose your head—it’s already too late,” Kuro interjected coolly.
Bang!
Zeff’s punch tore through the two figures, slamming into the cliff behind them and carving a crater.
It passed through them!
Ehrnando and Shu Di Ka’s bodies flickered like ghosts on Zeff’s fist, gradually fading into illusions.
“Shu Di Ka!” Zeff’s eyes widened in fury.
Shu Di Ka glanced away, avoiding his gaze. “Sensei, I’ve eaten a Devil Fruit these past years. I’m the ‘Reflection Human’ from the Reflection Fruit. Our true bodies aren’t here anymore—this is just a projection.”
“Sensei, remember what you taught us before?”
Ehrnando addressed Zeff. “You always said we must take pirates seriously—deceitful and vicious creatures. A single misstep could bring disaster. And if civilians suffer, that’s a failure of the Navy, who vowed to protect them.”
“So, let’s play a game.”
He raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
Snap.
After a pause, he continued, “In these years, I found a Devil Fruit too. I’m the ‘Parasite Human’—my ability lets me implant seeds in people. Should they die, the seeds sprout into clones that share my form.”
“Sure, they’re not that strong, but for a pirate, it’s more than enough. These clones obey my every command—whatever I order, they’ll do.”
“For example, I could command them to…”
His voice darkened. “Kill everyone in sight!”
Zeff’s pupils constricted as realization struck. “The pirates in Pegasus Town who died!”
Ehrnando spread his arms, reveling in the moment. “Exactly! Those dead pirates? My seeds took root in them. Now they’ve awakened—my clones!”
“Sensei, I’ve always wanted you to admit it: You are the failed Navy. Sensei, stop me if you can. If not, Pegasus Island will be wiped out!”
“My clones’ actions feed back to me. Right now, in Pegasus Town you can’t see, clones are already swinging their blades. A civilian stands before me… What a glorious sight of terror. Just slice it off—so simple, isn’t it?”
The last word carried a note of confusion.
No feedback.
All his clones in Pegasus Town had vanished, completely severed.
Though weak, these clones were fearless—killing one meant a gain, an annoyance to any Navy.
Yet now, nothing remained.
The strongest sensation? Something descending from the heavens, and then… nothing.
“Ehrnando Officer?” Shu Di Ka, noticing his pause, asked with concern.
“Nothing,” Ehrnando replied curtly.
His gaze shifted to Kuro, who stood biting his cigar, face relaxed.
“Lucius Kro,” Ehrnando growled. “I advise you not to interfere.”
Kuro exhaled another smoke ring lazily. “So, as a pirate in my territory, you’re telling me—the base commander—not to interfere? What, does the ex-Vice Admiral’s name carry that much weight?”
Pegasus Town wasn’t far. Precision strikes? Child’s play.
Clones? Just die once, and I’ll kill them again. Heaven itself would rain weapons down.
He gripped Autumn Water, slashing forward.
“Slash Wave!”
A colossal golden arc surged forth, obliterating everything in its path. The gathered pirates on the hill were cleaved in two, the slope itself carved flat, sending clouds of smoke and dust skyward.
“Made up my mind—I’m ending you myself!” A cruel smirk twisted his lips.
As the smoke cleared, Ehrnando and Shu Di Ka’s figures reappeared but now wavered like ripples on water.
“Told you—it’s not our true forms.”
Ehrnando glanced at Zeff. “Sensei, hurry and find me—otherwise, Pegasus Town won’t be the only hell.”
The rippling illusions dissolved completely, vanishing.
Boom!
Zeff’s fist slammed into the ground, gouging another crater.
“Ehrnando! Don’t run! Fight me!” Zeff roared, his voice shaking the air. “You’ve become a Navy utterly devoid of honor!”
