Chapter 276: Tearing Cards, No Problem?
Chapter 276: Tearing Cards, No Problem?
"My turn, let's draw!"
Manjome drew a card and then declared in a deep voice, "Watch closely, You Xuan. This is the secret power I acquired at the Northern School!
Armed Dragon LV3, effect activation! During my Standby Phase, I can send this card from the field to the Graveyard to Special Summon its evolved form from my deck!
LV upgrade! Evolve and return to my field in a stronger form—
—Armed Dragon LV5, I summon you!"
The tiny Armed Dragon disappeared in the soaring storm, its body rapidly growing and transforming into a new form—an Armed Dragon covered in spikes and with a fierce gaze, appraising the field before it.
[Armed Dragon LV5: ATK 2400]
"Go, Armed Dragon LV5! Attack 'Magic Jammer'!" Manjome commanded.
The Armed Dragon leaped forward, its claws slicing through the air like red wind blades, tearing the Magic Jammer apart.
[You Xuan: LP 4000 → LP 3400]
"I set a card in my Spell & Trap Card Zone. Then, during the End Phase, the effect of Armed Dragon LV5 activates!" Manjome raised his arm.
"When Armed Dragon LV5 destroys a monster in battle, I can send this card on the field to the Graveyard and Special Summon 'Armed Dragon LV7' from my hand or deck!"
The audience was once again astonished. "Another evolution?"
"Indeed, the evolution of the Armed Dragon never stops!" Manjome exclaimed. "Evolve once more and bring me the fruit of victory! LV upgrade—
—Armed Dragon LV7, I summon you!!!'
A white whirlwind swept through the arena, and within the storm, the Armed Dragon grew even larger and more formidable. In the blink of an eye, it had transformed into an even more imposing figure, looking down at You Xuan.
"Oh, that's Manjome's new monster!" Jaden exclaimed from the sidelines, rubbing his hands together. "Ah, what a shame. If I had won the representative duel, I would be the one facing such a monster now."
Headmaster Ichiro's smile widened as he watched, "Hahaha, I knew I didn't mistake this young man. Lightning-san has managed to master our school's secret card in such a short time.
I can already foresee Ms. Dome giving me a welcoming wave."
Headmaster Samejima's face turned green with anger. "Damn, don't get too cocky!"
Manjome's two older brothers smiled with satisfaction.
"This guy never fails to surprise. He's doing a great job," the eldest, Manjome Tatsumasa, commented.
The second eldest, Manjome Chosaku, added, "If he crushes his opponent too quickly, it might become a headache for me, though."
"Hmm?" Tatsumasa looked at his brother questioningly.
Chosaku explained, "Because if he ends the duel too fast by completely overwhelming his opponent, we'll have unused airtime that was booked with the TV station."
"That's true."
The two brothers exchanged a glance and then burst into laughter, tilting their heads back.
". . ."
"Amazing, Manjome. You've summoned LV7 so quickly," You Xuan said with a smile. "You certainly know how to put pressure on your opponent. My turn, draw!
I activate the spell card 'Pot of Greed' and draw two more cards from my deck."
You Xuan drew his cards. After glancing at his new hand, he once again wore a strange smile.
For some reason, Manjome felt a chill run down his spine when he saw that smile, and a sense of foreboding washed over him.
"Since my opponent is Manjome, using this monster's power is most fitting," You Xuan said.
As he spoke, a card was removed from You Xuan's Duel Disk's Graveyard.
"I activate the Trap Card 'Double Snatch' from my Graveyard, which was sent there by 'Mind Shuffle' last turn," You Xuan explained. "By removing this card from the game, I can Special Summon two 'Des Kangaroo' monsters with different names from my deck!"
He drew out the two cards automatically searched from his deck.
"Special Summon 'Des Kangaroo Yellow'! 'Des Kangaroo Green'!"
[Des Kangaroo Yellow: DEF 1000]
[Des Kangaroo Green: DEF 1000]
"What?!" Manjome exclaimed, his eyes widening. "You're using these useless monsters?!"
The Des Kangaroo Yellow spirit next to him popped out, translucent and ghost-like. "Big brother, big brother! Look, someone actually uses me in a duel! Why do you say I can't be in duels?!"
"Shut up!"
Annoyed, Manjome pushed the spirit of Des Kangaroo Yellow back into his deck and then glared at You Xuan's field, his eyes narrowing.
"You plan to take on my Armed Dragon with these weaklings?"
"Whether they're weaklings or not remains to be seen," You Xuan replied with a light laugh.
You Xuan knew that Manjyome had likely acquired Armed Dragons during his time at the Northern School, and he had also noticed his opponent's deck shifting towards a dragon-centric strategy. That's why, over the past few days, he had contemplated testing out his newly acquired Buster Blader on Manjyome.
However, in the end, he decided against it.
After all, a duel against Manjyome was far more entertaining with a Gadgets deck.
"And I end my turn by setting a monster in Attack Position, 'Gadget Hairstreak.' "
[Gadget Hairstreak: ATK 0 / DEF 1000]
"I activate the spell card 'Polymerization' from my hand!" You Xuan declared. "I fuse the 'Gadget Green,' 'Gadget Yellow,' and 'Gadget Hairstreak' on my field.
Through the unity of brothers, they transform into the ultimate form of disruption—
—Level 6, Rainbow Dragon, I summon you!"
The fusion of the yellow, black, and green gadgets created a dazzling radiance. A giant white head, with a goofy green cape, and red shorts appeared, as the Rainbow Dragon struck a silly "yay" pose, thumping down onto the field.
[Rainbow Dragon: ATK 0]
On Manjyome's side, the Gadget Yellow spirit popped out again: "Big bro, big bro! It's the Rainbow Dragon! Brothers united are stronger than anything! I don't think you can beat this!"
"Get lost!"
Gadget Yellow disappeared once more.
"Damn it, shut up! You're giving me a headache!" Manjyome shouted, feeling increasingly agitated and unable to focus on the duel.
He took a deep breath and tried to concentrate on the duel.
The Rainbow Dragon was in an attack position, yet its attack power was still zero.
You Xuan: "I activate the field spell card, 'Rainbow Ruins'!"
The projection of the field changed, and cartoonish, squat buildings sprouted from the ground, taking over the entire dueling arena.
Gadget Yellow reappeared, its eyes glistening: "Rainbow Ruins! That's where I grew up! Big bro, look, there used to be a tree like that in front of my house when I was little! And that small hill! I used to love sliding down that slope when I was a kid."
"Aaah, would you just be quiet?!"
Manjyome was growing more and more irritable.
"Whose side are you even on?!" he suddenly wondered. Could this Gadget Yellow spirit be a spy planted by You Xuan? Why else would he be tormented by his own spirit monster during a duel?
You Xuan: "The effect of Rainbow Ruins switches the original ATK and DEF of all 'Gadget' monsters on the field."
[Rainbow Dragon: ATK 0 → ATK 3000]
[Armed Dragon LV7: ATK 2800 → ATK 1000]
Manjyome's expression soured.
While the Armed Dragon had high ATK, its DEF was only 1000 points.
You Xuan: "Rainbow Dragon, attack the 'Armed Dragon LV7'!"
The Rainbow Dragon let out a monsterous roar, struck a goofy muscle-flexing pose, and then, with a superhero-like punch, sent the Armed Dragon flying and flattened it on the ground with a loud bang.
"I activate the trap card, 'Guard Block'!" Manjyome said through gritted teeth. "Negate one attack that would destroy this card I control, and then draw 1 card."
A transparent barrier appeared, blocking the aftermath of the Rainbow Dragon's punch.
While the damage was prevented, Manjyome's expression remained grim.
His unbeatable Armed Dragon had just been defeated by a Rainbow Dragon, a deck known throughout the dueling world as a synonym for trash.
While Manjyome himself would never underestimate any deck You Xuan brought out, he knew that others—especially those with less dueling experience—wouldn't share his perspective.
This duel had attracted a lot of attention, with the Manjyome conglomerate investing heavily in its promotion, and it was being broadcast live nationwide.
Many viewers might not recognize You Xuan, and their ability to read the intricacies of the duel might be limited. But there was one thing they would understand—
—The young master of the Manjyome conglomerate had just been crushed by a Rainbow Dragon, a deck known for being utter garbage.
His two older brothers had warned him before the duel not to lose. What would they think if he didn't just lose but got crushed by a trash deck?
Manjyome felt the pressure mounting as these thoughts raced through his mind. Just then, the annoyingly oblivious Gadget Yellow spirit appeared again.
"Hahaha! See, big bro? It's the power of brothers united! Your Armed Dragon never stood a chance against us!"
Manjyome: "..."
He began to contemplate something.
Maybe it was time to just rip this useless Gadget Yellow card to shreds?
