Chapter 276: Is This Legal, Baburilla?
Chapter 276: Is This Legal, Baburilla?
"Bamo, Bamo!" (I am the Thunder God Baburilla, for the glory of the ranch!)
Five minutes later, Baburilla was flying back and forth over the ranch with a hammer in his hand, like a child who had just received a new toy.
Naoki and Little Blacksmith stood below, watching this display.
After the initial surprise, Baburilla quickly took a liking to the hammer.
To impersonate the superhero that Naoki had just mentioned, named Thor, Baburilla even went back to his room to put on his red cape.
Now, he really looked the part.
Naoki recalled the scene of Baburilla electrifying the hammer earlier, deep in thought:
"From the hammer's performance after being electrified, the Steel Armor Crow's feathers have excellent conductivity and can perfectly adapt to Baburilla's electric power."
"The electric power enhances the hammer's might, and for now, it seems Baburilla has intuitively learned the attacking method of swinging the electrified hammer... What should I call this? A self-created move, Thunder God's Hammer?"
"I wonder if the Padia League's battle rules would allow Baburilla to fight while holding the hammer."
"But, I suppose it should be allowed?" Naoki speculated.
After all, Gigalith, a Pokemon that also wielded a hammer, was permitted to battle.
Additionally, there were Pokemon like Mr. Mime and Durant that brought their whole families to fight.
In a sense, this hammer could be considered Baburilla's signature weapon.
And from this day forward, Baburilla would no longer be an ordinary Baburilla, but a special individual among the Baburilla tribe, a Pokemon known as the Thunder God Baburilla.
Naoki had a vague premonition that his efforts would not be in vain, and that he was creating a new legend.
It was truly exciting to imagine what heights Baburilla, having eaten the Lightning Bun, could reach in the future!
At this moment, his sister, Ai, came out of the servant's room and called out to Naoki, "Ai!"
Realizing that Ai wanted something, Naoki said to Baburilla and Little Blacksmith:
"You two play here. By the way, Baburilla, the Little Blacksmith species is very skilled with hammers. If there's anything you don't understand, feel free to ask it for guidance!"
Hearing this, Baburilla's eyes lit up, and he looked at Little Blacksmith eagerly, asking, "Bamo?"
Little Blacksmith felt a bit embarrassed to be looked at with such admiration, but he nodded anyway.
"Woof."
Naoki was right; every Little Blacksmith was adept at using hammers, as if the skills were innate to them.
Seeing this, Baburilla immediately asked Little Blacksmith to teach him.
Little Blacksmith was also delighted to be of assistance. Ever since being rescued, he had been freeloading at the ranch, so he was happy to finally be able to contribute with his strengths. He readily agreed.
The two hammer-wielding Pokemon held hands and ran to a nearby open space to practice hammer techniques.
Naoki turned and headed back to the living room with his sister, Ai.
As he entered, he heard the sound of the video phone.
Hmm? Who could be calling at this time? Naoki was a bit surprised, but he answered the call, and the next second, Dr. Olin's face appeared on the screen, exuding a valiant aura.
"Long time no see, Naoki," Dr. Olin smiled at him.
After a brief moment of astonishment, Naoki quickly regained his composure, "Long time no see, Dr. Olin. Golett is sunbathing outside; I'll go call him now."
However, Dr. Olin shook her head, "No, this call isn't about Golett. It's a personal matter that I'd like to trouble you with."
Hmm? Naoki was slightly taken aback but promptly replied, "Go ahead."
"It's about Papi," Dr. Olin said, a hint of guilt flashing across her face as she spoke of her son. "The research in Zone Zero is at a critical stage, and Professor Futu and I can't leave for an extended period."
"Over the years, Papi has been living alone, and we've neglected him a lot. Yesterday, when I was communicating with him, I saw the child sitting alone in a dark room. Compared to his peers, he's too lonely and too mature."
"Professor Futu and I have always wanted Papi to go out and experience the world, to come into contact with interesting things, but he's always been glum and uninterested."
"Yesterday, when I mentioned your ranch, Papi showed a glimmer of interest. So, I want to ask a favor of you. Please take care of Papi for a few days and show him the outside world."
"Last time you were unable to capture the Paradox Pokemon you desired. Recently, the Paradox Pokemon Research Institute has made new breakthroughs, and if any appear that can adapt to this era, Professor Futu and I will do our best to give you the opportunity to care for them."
Naoki's expression turned helpless as he replied, "That's fine with me, but as you know, this is only a temporary solution to the problem."
Dr. Olin sighed. "I know we haven't fulfilled our responsibilities as parents, but we are helpless in this matter..."
Hearing this, Naoki let out a sigh.
Oh well!
If Papi was destined to have such a tragic future, then now was the time to create some happy childhood memories for him!
Without saying another word, Naoki silently agreed to Dr. Olin's request.
"Thank you so much." Dr. Olin expressed her gratitude. "The Institute will be on vacation in a week. By then, Professor Futu and I will return to the Padia region and pick up Papi from your place."
"Alright." Naoki nodded.
After hanging up the call, Naoki stood there for a moment before heading upstairs to prepare a vacant guest room.
"We'll be having a guest at the ranch in the next few days," Naoki said as he made the bed, addressing Ai and her brother, who were trailing behind him. "He's the son of the two doctors, and his name is Papi."
"Ai~"
Ai nodded enthusiastically, indicating that they would take good care of their guest.
Naoki smiled. He had met Papi before, and contrary to the typical mischievous child, Papi was exceptionally well-behaved and obedient.
According to the doctors, Papi would be departing from Little Spoon Town in an angry parrot taxi, and he was expected to arrive at the ranch by tomorrow afternoon.
Taking advantage of this time, Naoki thoroughly cleaned the second-floor room and waited with a group of Pokemon for Papi's arrival.
The following afternoon, at three o'clock, as Naoki was pouring fruit wine in the wine cellar, a commotion suddenly erupted from the ranch.
Naoki assumed it was Papi arriving and paused his task to go out and greet him.
However, to his surprise, the visitor was not Papi but a luxurious, understated black car.
Naoki: "?"
The car came to a stop in front of the ranch.
Before Naoki's bewildered eyes, two individuals emerged from the vehicle.
One was an elderly man with white hair, dressed in a black suit and a white shirt, appearing very much like a butler.
The other was a small girl with a ponytail, her eyes shining with intelligence.
As soon as the little girl stepped out of the car, her gaze locked onto Naoki, who was standing at a short distance away.
She then took out a red and white Poke Ball from her pocket and enthusiastically challenged, "Let's battle!"
Naoki: "???"
The butler standing next to the little girl wore an expression of helplessness as he said, "Miss Nemo, you're being too hasty."
Nemo... Nemo?!
Naoki was taken aback. Was this little girl Nemo? No, that couldn't be right. How did Nemo end up here?!
At that moment, the elderly butler stepped forward and politely addressed Naoki, "I apologize for the intrusion, Mr. Ranch Owner. This is Miss Nemo; we've come from Little Spoon Town. Miss Nemo saw you with those Dragonites on TV, and she rushed over here without a moment's delay, eager to have a Pokemon battle with you."
Upon hearing these words, Naoki instantly understood what had transpired.
He looked at the little girl, thinking that she truly lived up to her 'Stubborn' trait. But...
Naoki opened his mouth to explain that he wasn't a trainer when a pink figure flew over from above the ranch.
The pink figure was draped in a majestic red cape, and it held a hammer in its hand. The wind made its cape flutter dramatically.
That Pokemon was...
Nemo's attention was immediately captured.
Even the butler standing beside her was stunned, his mouth hanging open in astonishment.
A... flying Baburilla?!
Could his eyes be deceiving him?
And it was even a differently-colored Baburilla!
The Baburilla paid no heed to the two guests behind him. Excitedly, it hovered in front of Naoki.
"Bamo!"
It had already learned to use that hammer!
Without further ado, Baburilla proceeded to demonstrate its newfound skill.
Blue lightning erupted from its body, enveloping its entire form and turning its eyes a faint blue.
Upon reaching a certain height, Baburilla let out a vigorous "Bamo!" as its pink figure plummeted from the sky, delivering an explosive blow to the ground with its lightning hammer.
In an instant, powerful electricity scattered, and the once smooth ground was left with a massive crater.
Naoki's eyes widened as he stared at the scene, incredulous.
What move was that, and how could it be so powerful?!
What was unfolding before him had already exceeded his initial expectations...
The elderly butler's face also showed a look of shock. He stood there, stunned, his mouth agape, unable to utter a word. He simply stared at the unusual Baburilla.
That move... What was that move? He had never seen anything like it before!
What kind of Pokemon was this? Could this adorable, girly-looking Pokemon really be the Baburilla he was familiar with?!
Nemo, standing beside him, watched Baburilla with excited eyes.
She clenched her fists, and a strong light shone in her eyes. "So amazing!"
"Bamo?"
Baburilla finally noticed the visitors and turned to look at the elderly butler and Nemo.
Nemo had already pressed the button on her red and white Poke Ball.
With a flash of white light, a small, fluffy Shobble appeared before Baburilla.
Nemo's desire to battle was burning fiercely as she said, "Mr. Ranch Owner, please have a Pokemon battle with me!"
Hearing this, Naoki instinctively looked down at the immature Shobble.
Baburilla also lowered its head to look at the much smaller Shobble.
Nemo's Shobble looked up at Baburilla, its fluffy face showing surprise as it saw Baburilla flying.
"Bamo?"
Baburilla was a little unsure, so it turned to look at Naoki.
Naoki looked at Nemo and said, "...This doesn't seem very appropriate, does it?"
Nemo paused for a moment.
Naoki continued, "If there's a huge gap in strength and Pokemon are forced to fight, it won't be effective, and it might even put the Pokemon in danger. That's not something a qualified Trainer should do."
Although Nemo loved Pokemon battles, she didn't want to see that happen. She looked at the Shobble in front of her and then at the Poke Ball in her hand before ultimately recalling her Shobble.
The elderly butler finally regained his senses. He looked at the other Pokemon that had gathered due to the commotion and realized that this was no ordinary ranch.
And the man before him was no ordinary person; he was likely a powerful Trainer who had secluded himself away.
The butler's long career had prepared him to remain calm and collected even in surprising situations.
Seeing that Miss Nemo had dropped the idea of battling, the butler said to her, "Miss Nemo, you can wait until you're older to have a Pokemon battle with this Trainer."
Hearing this, Nemo's eyes lit up, and she didn't seem as disappointed as she had been a moment ago.
The butler smiled slightly and then took a step forward, politely asking, "Mr. Ranch Owner, may we have a tour of your ranch? We've never seen so many Dragonite before. Miss Nemo and I would be happy to pay the admission fee."
Naoki was a little taken aback but soon understood why the butler had brought Nemo to the ranch.
It was to give Nemo a firsthand experience of Dragonite, providing her with the best educational environment.
As expected of someone from a wealthy and prestigious family!
Since it wasn't a big deal, Naoki shook his head and said, "No need for admission fees. If you'd like a tour, then follow me!"
"Thank you," the butler said politely.
Naoki was about to take Nemo and the butler on a tour of the ranch when a voice called out from behind them.
"Um... Excuse me!"
Naoki turned to see Papi, who had arrived at the ranch at some point. He stood at a distance, raising his right hand to greet everyone.
Well, well!
Naoki raised an eyebrow at the sight.
What a coincidence! First, Nemo, and now Papi.
Now, only Peony needed to arrive to complete Vermilion's trio of partners.
