Chapter 276: Compensation
Chapter 276: Compensation
The medical team entered the Fighting Arena to examine the unconscious individuals, discovering nine fatalities and seventeen severely injured from the recent chaotic battle.
Most of the deceased were First Limit Fighters, a far less dire outcome than initially anticipated.
An security advisor approached Sun Xuechang and whispered, "Sir, Gong Zhanyi from the Gong Clan is critically injured."
Sun Xuechang briefly acknowledged, "Do your best to save him."
Gong Zhanyi, a member of the Gong Clan, was injured in the attack on the Canglong Corporation's ship, and his life was in jeopardy. This could be a slightly troublesome matter, but as Gong Zhanyi was not the heir to the Gong Clan, the situation could be resolved.
"Also, find a way to use this opportunity to determine if Wei Wusheng is connected to them. It's crucial, and I authorize you to use any means necessary."
The security advisor understood and added, "We've located Wei Wusheng's previous hiding spot. He's familiar with the ship's layout, especially the cargo corner where he hid. It's an obscure location that only an insider would know about."
"Sir, could there be someone within the company...?"
Sun Xuechang immediately cut him off, "No speculation without evidence."
The security advisor fell silent.
Although Sun Xuechang stopped him from continuing, he understood the advisor's inference. It was indeed possible that someone within the company was involved.
It seemed that the 'Duomu Project' under his responsibility had encroached upon certain interests.
After a moment of contemplation, Sun Xuechang asked, "How are the other two doing?"
"They're recovering after taking the medication, and their condition appears stable," the security advisor replied.
Sun Xuechang nodded and gestured for the advisor to attend to his duties. He then glanced at Chen Chuan standing in the Fighting Arena, holding the Xuejun Blade and gazing at the undulating seawater under the night sky.
Sun Xuechang approached Chen Chuan and said, "I've had the medical team examine everyone, and your classmates are unharmed. I've instructed them to administer a calming agent. If there's no reaction within half an hour, they'll be fine."
Chen Chuan asked, "Sun Xuechang, what was that?"
Sun Xuechang replied, "It's a toxin induced by the Crimson Sea Worm, capable of stimulating Third Limit Fighters, intensifying their states..."
He provided a brief explanation, then added, "But for most Third Limit Fighters, it's not beneficial. It can affect their mental faculties."
Chen Chuan didn't inquire further. Since Sun Xuechang had explained, he would tentatively accept this as the truth.
At that moment, Sun Xuechang turned to Chen Chuan and spoke earnestly, "Chen Chuan, I checked the records and noticed your recent application for Lumina Exposure. This project is also heavily funded by Canglong Corporation.
As a gesture of gratitude and compensation for this incident, I'll use my company access to secure an additional three hours of exposure time for you each month. This is our sincerity, and I hope you'll accept it."
Chen Chuan's thoughts shifted. Sun Xuechang's offer of compensation was genuine, but it was likely also a request for him, as the only conscious witness, to refrain from publicizing the incident. Chen Chuan agreed, "This is indeed necessary. In that case, I won't decline."
Sun Xuechang, seeing Chen Chuan's willingness to accept, relaxed further and said, "Chen Chuan, if you ever need assistance in the future, you can reach me through this method."
At that moment, Chen Chuan noticed a new contact on his communication interface—a long dragon soaring through clouds, illuminated by a beam of light, its body partially obscured. The name was Sun Zhiming, which Chen Chuan recognized as Sun Xuechang. He accepted and added the contact.
Chen Chuan then asked, "Sun Xuechang, who is Wei Wusheng?"
Sun Xuechang explained, "Wei Wusheng was a core member of the Tiansu Gang, but he was recently expelled. He's a martial arts fanatic, always seeking out renowned fighters to challenge. With his Cross-Training Power, he's a formidable opponent, and it's unclear why he acted as he did today. We're still investigating."
Chen Chuan nodded. Wei Wusheng was indeed formidable. He rarely encountered someone who could withstand the Xuejun Blade solely through physical prowess. Even with the Honglu Breath Method, Chen Chuan felt this opponent might withstand it.
Dealing with such an opponent would require unique strategies. He would need to continue training and consult Teacher Zheng for guidance.
Chen Chuan shared his thoughts, "From what I understood, he seemed to be pursuing his heart's will."
"Heart's Will?" Sun Xuechang's expression turned solemn upon hearing this. "This information is crucial, Chen Chuan. Thank you for sharing."
Possibly receiving a communication, Sun Xuechang touched his Ji Pin and said to Chen Chuan, "Chen Chuan, I must take my leave. If you need anything, contact me directly."
After a handshake with Chen Chuan, Sun Xuechang quickened his pace and departed.
Chen Chuan stood for a moment before heading towards the medical room. Halfway there, he noticed the Ji Pin's external communication function had been restored. A call came in, and he saw it was from Ni Qianqian. He accepted the call, and her voice sounded in his ear, "Chen Chuan, are you on the Rhino Horn Cruise Ship?"
"Chen Chuan, are you there? I'm Ni Gan Shi, and I'm calling about the violent incident that occurred on the cruise ship earlier," said the voice over the communication badge.
"What a coincidence! That saves us a lot of trouble," Chen Chuan replied.
"Canglong Corporation has its own security team and wants to handle this internally without our involvement," Ni Qianqian explained. "But we've learned through certain channels that this incident involves Wei Wusheng from the Tiansu Gang. He's already on the Bureau's watchlist, and whenever a fighter is involved in a crime, the Bureau has the right to participate in the investigation."
"Canglong Corporation didn't handle this incident well, and we need to look into it. Since you were involved, it's convenient. Please submit a report to the Bureau when you have time," Ni Qianqian instructed.
"Okay," Chen Chuan acknowledged.
"I won't disturb your holiday any further," Ni Qianqian said, ending the call.
Chen Chuan ended the conversation and walked for a while before entering the medical room. After some time, Pan Xiaode, Tan Zhi, and Qi Huixin gradually regained consciousness.
Pan Xiaode, upon waking up, immediately asked, "Who won? Who ultimately won?"
Tan Zhi rubbed his head, confused. "It seems there was no result. I saw someone smash open the aquarium, and then we all ended up lying here. Why is that?"
Qi Huixin massaged her temples, struggling to recall what had happened.
It was unclear whether it was the effect of the awakening medicine or the influence of toxins, but all three of them had completely forgotten what happened afterward. In fact, not only them, but everyone who woke up had forgotten the previous fight. Their memories only went as far as Wei WushENG smashing the aquarium.
Chen Chuan explained, "According to Sun Xuechang, the water in the aquarium contained toxins released by the Crimson Sea Worm. Since the aquarium broke and leaked outside, we were all exposed to the toxins."
"Is that so?" Pan Xiaode asked. "Chen, you woke up faster than us."
Chen Chuan pondered, thinking it was odd that only he remained conscious while the other three were unconscious. He simply hummed in response.
Tan Zhi began to regain some clarity and looked at the Boundary Vessel. "It's almost 10 o'clock, and today's main event is over. I think we should head back and rest. I still feel a bit dizzy."
Pan Xiaode expressed disappointment. "It's a shame we didn't get to see the entire match today, and we're leaving tomorrow. It might be a while before we get another chance."
Tan Zhi comforted him, "There will be other opportunities."
Chen Chuan waited with them for a while longer. Seeing that they had mostly recovered, they left the medical room and returned to their guest rooms. After freshening up, Chen Chuan drafted a report, sent it out, and then went back to sleep.
Back in the main deck cabin, Sun Xuechang called over the leader of the Duomu Project and inquired, "About the trainee Chen earlier, he's just a Second-Level Fighter, but he wasn't affected by the Polyope Field. He took medication to counter a Third-Level Fighter, is that normal?"
The leader thought for a moment. "There are always some special individuals in the population, whether they're Third-Level Fighters or not. Those with exceptional physiques might not be affected. I haven't met this trainee Chen, but based on your description, it seems he might be one of those cases."
"Especially since he took medication to counter a Third-Level Fighter, if his will to survive is strong, it's highly possible for him to maintain a certain level of consciousness. Although there are no recorded cases of this, it is theoretically possible."
Sun Xuechang nodded and asked, "How is the 'Polyope' doing?"
The leader replied, "The 'Polyope' is stable. The fight between the two fighters didn't last long, and the Polyope hasn't collected complete information expressions and field records yet.
Later, when Wei Wusheng appeared, the field became mixed with information from other fighters, especially those of lower levels. This requires us to guide and sort through it, which might take some time."
Sun Xuechang asked, "Is it a significant issue?"
"No," the leader answered. "In fact, with Wei Wusheng's involvement, we might even be able to add another field record, even if it's not complete. If we get the chance, we hope to collect a full set."
Sun Xuechang said, "Although the Polyope Project is just one part of Canglong Corporation's grand plan, it's an essential piece of the puzzle. What happened earlier won't affect us. I've communicated with the company, and you can proceed with peace of mind, without worrying about other impacts."
The leader took out a hand from their lab coat pocket and adjusted their glasses. "That's good to hear."
Sun Xuechang leaned on the railing before him and said, "All major corporations are pushing their projects for the next era, and Canglong Corporation must stay ahead."
"I'll submit a report to the company and promote the derived services of the Polyope to the market, further perfecting our data. Please prepare accordingly."
