Chapter 275: Wasn't She Following Us?
Chapter 275: Wasn't She Following Us?
One of the black-robed wizards sneered at the burly wizard who had just climbed to his feet.
"Joseph, you really are getting worse. I thought we wouldn't need to intervene."
"You'd better be careful, he's not that easy to deal with!" Joseph pointed his Wand at Ivan, speaking with caution.
"Four of us against one, do you really think we'll lose?" Another wizard shook his head and rebutted.
Four? Is there someone else hiding in the shadows?
Ivan frowned as he looked at the three wizards who had formed a half-circle around him. Where were Sirius Black and Dobby? Or were they held back by other enemies?
Just as Ivan was thinking, Joseph suddenly spoke to the two wizards.
"Where's Kylie? Why are only the two of you here?"
"Wasn't she following us the whole time?" The two black-robed wizards also realized something was wrong, and one of them turned his head in confusion.
In that split second, a Black Dog leaped down from the roof, biting into Joseph's right hand that held the Wand, and yanked hard.
A piercing scream echoed through the quiet alley.
The first black-robed wizard to react was about to cast a spell, but Ivan was faster!
"Sectumsempra!"
An invisible blade of magical power sliced through the black-robed wizard's body, splattering blood on the nearby walls.
The other black-robed wizard had just turned around to find the situation had completely reversed. The once foolproof ambush had crumbled, and he was the only one left standing.
"I—" The black-robed wizard was about to surrender, but Ivan didn't give him the chance, sending a Stunning Spell that knocked him out.
After dealing with the two black-robed wizards, Ivan turned to Sirius Black.
A man and a dog were engaged in a fierce struggle on the ground.
Joseph had a chunk of flesh bitten off his right hand, and his Wand was nowhere to be found. However, relying on his robust build, he endured the pain and pounded the Black Dog with his fist, the size of a sandbag.
Sirius Black was also incredibly stubborn, fighting in his Animagus form and leaving deep claw marks on the other's face.
"Stupefy!" Ivan waved his Wand, helping him out. The Stupefy spell hit Joseph, and he quickly lost consciousness.
At the same time, Dobby appeared in the chaotic alley, dragging a beautiful but unconscious witch.
Clearly, the so-called fourth person had been dealt with by Dobby in the shadows.
To Ivan's surprise, he recognized the beautiful witch. She was the one who had been chatting with the Leaky Cauldron's owner, Tom. It seemed she had used some method to alert Joseph and the others.
"Dobby, take them back!" Ivan thought the sounds of the fight might attract other onlookers, so he gave the order.
Dobby nodded, grabbed the black-robed wizards, and used Apparition to transport them back to the temporary hideout, one by one. Finally, he Apparated Ivan and Sirius Black.
Multiple Apparitions in a short time was no easy feat for Dobby, but fortunately, everything went smoothly.
Back at the temporary home, Sirius Black looked at the four unconscious wizards on the ground and said disdainfully, "Looks like these people aren't as tough as you said."
"They are just some scouts." Ivan shook his head and used a healing spell to treat Joseph's injuries so he wouldn't bleed to death.
Then, Ivan took a bottle of Veritaserum and made Joseph swallow a dose, before removing the Stunning Spell on him.
Soon, Joseph regained consciousness, but his eyes were vacant and lifeless, and he sat there motionless.
"Who are you?" Ivan probed.
"Joseph Grint", Joseph's low voice replied.
Ivan nodded and then proceeded to ask Joseph who he was working for, why they attacked the Dark Magic Shop, how many people were involved, and where the members were located.
Joseph answered Ivan's questions without hesitation.
Ivan learned that Joseph and his group were among the Dark Wizards targeted during the Ministry of Magic's crackdown on Dark Magic items last year.
Compared to those who were imprisoned in Azkaban, they were fortunate enough to escape, but they still suffered heavy losses. Many barely survived the Aurors' pursuit, and it was hard for them to swallow this defeat.
They didn't dare to challenge the Ministry of Magic or the Minister Fudge, who proposed the cleanup plan, so they targeted the magic shops that assisted the Ministry.
If it weren't for the protective rings that the Auror captains wore, they wouldn't have been hunted down so ruthlessly.
"Watch out for the escapees." Ivan recalled this note from the revitalization task as he listened to Joseph's account.
Near the end of the previous summer vacation, Ivan had planned to deal with these people. However, the Ministry's cleanup operation was still ongoing, and these Dark Wizards were hiding in various nooks and crannies. He couldn't even find them, let alone eliminate them.
To ensure his safety, he had deliberately befriended the Werewolf Wizards in Knockturn Alley, so they could look after Aisha in his absence.
But he had underestimated them.
And he never expected who was leading this group this time.
"You mean the one who gathered you is the owner of Borgin and Burkes?" Ivan asked, emphasizing each word.
Joseph nodded blankly.
"Caractacus Burke!" Ivan slowly repeated the name, his anger rising.
Ivan certainly remembered this man, and he remembered him well. When he first arrived in Knockturn Alley, Burke had used a detection spell to trick him. If he hadn't practiced Occlumency, he would have been deceived. Aisha had almost come to blows with Burke in that Dark Magic Shop.
Clearly, Burke and Aisha had a deep-seated conflict, perhaps related to the transit point in Knockturn Alley.
"Where is Burke now? How many Dark Wizards are with him?" Ivan grabbed Joseph's collar and demanded.
"Unknown", Joseph's face remained expressionless as he replied. "We lost contact with Mr. Borgin over a month ago."
Ivan instinctively suspected that Joseph might be lying, that he had somehow resisted the effects of the Veritaserum.
But Ivan soon remembered that Tom had mentioned during their chat at the Leaky Cauldron that Borgin and Burkes had been attacked.
