Chapter 275: Listing the Well-Known Strong Ninjas of Konoha
Chapter 275: Listing the Well-Known Strong Ninjas of Konoha
First to arrive was Minato Namikaze. Whenever he had free time, he would come to help Mu Yue with chores, not wanting to freeload.
Minato was slightly taken aback when he entered the living room and saw Kakashi Hatake and Obito Uchicha sitting there, but he quickly smiled and greeted them.
"Teacher Minato," Obito and Kakashi said, unsurprised to see him.
Although this wasn't their home or Minato's, they often ran into each other here, so it wasn't unusual.
After a brief greeting to his students, Minato made his way to the kitchen to lend a hand.
A few minutes after Minato arrived, Might Guy turned up as well. Seeing Kakashi and the others, he wore an delighted expression and greeted them with a brilliant smile:
"My dear friends, even though we're not on the same team anymore, the bond between us has only grown stronger. How about a friendly taijutsu spar?"
"No, it's almost dinnertime," Kakashi promptly refused.
"What a shame," Guy said, a little disappointed. He had been feeling that his taijutsu had improved lately, and he wanted to test it out on Kakashi.
"Hey, Guy, who are your teammates after the reshuffle?" Obito asked curiously.
"Genma Shiranui and Ebisu," Guy answered, glancing at Mu Yue busy in the kitchen before sitting down.
Now that he was here, Guy decided to ask Mu Yue if she was willing to meet with Teacher Chen after dinner.
"They're not bad," Obito said thoughtfully. "Their strength is considered among the top in the fourth grade, and they're pretty decent people, too."
"Yeah, they're reliable teammates," Guy agreed, giving a thumbs up in the air and laughing.
If it weren't for Ebisu using his Confusion Technique on Teacher Chen at the crucial moment, and Genma spitting out a thousand paper bombs, they probably wouldn't have gotten that bell.
After chatting with Guy for a while, Obito suddenly remembered the Uchiha exchange meeting his grandmother had mentioned, and he asked Shizune, "Shizune, did you receive an invitation to the young ninja exchange meeting?"
Shizune nodded.
"The young ninja exchange meeting? What kind of event is that? I've never heard of it. And isn't Shizune still attending the Ninja Academy?" Kakashi asked, puzzled.
Kakashi felt that the words "young" and "ninja" just didn't seem to fit with Shizune.
"It's an internal activity of the Uchiha clan," Shizune explained briefly. "Technically, only those who have become ninjas should receive the invitation, but the clan head feels that the Uchiha should interact more, so he sent me an invitation as well."
Hearing that it was a private Uchiha event, Kakashi immediately lost interest. Such events were usually kept strictly confidential.
"I heard that this exchange meeting has rewards. Shizune, do you know what the rewards are?" Obito asked curiously. If the rewards weren't that great, he might as well skip it and save the time for training.
Shizune recalled what Fugaku had told him and replied, "If you perform well, you might have the chance to obtain advanced Fire Style techniques, as well as secret ninja tools and medicines."
Hearing about the advanced Fire Style techniques, Obito's eyes lit up. Although he had just learned a powerful Fire Style technique from Mu Yue, one could never have too many jutsu. Moreover, if Mu Yue didn't know it, he could practice it with her, and it would be a way to repay her for her teachings.
"Then, Shizune, are you going? If you are, let's go together. I received an invitation, too," Obito said, his interest piqued by the prospect of advanced Fire Style techniques.
"Alright, then let's go together," Shizune agreed with a nod.
He had intended to go even before Fugaku's invitation, but not for the advanced jutsu. He wanted to meet and observe the younger generation of Uchiha ninjas.
After answering many historical questions about Konoha and listening to Mu Yue's history lessons, Shizune had realized something. The transformation of the Uchiha clan into its current state had a lot to do with the actions of many of its members.
Not long after the village was founded, the Uchiha clan head had rebelled against Konoha and later returned to wreak havoc. In the end, he had dueled with the First Hokage, creating the famous Valley of the End, a well-known landmark in Fire Country.
But that wasn't the end of it. After the death of Hashirama Senju and the ascension of Tobirama Senju as the Second Hokage, the Uchiha clan caused trouble again. Regardless of the destructive nature of their actions, this incident was even worse than what Madara Uchiha had done, as the Uchiha clan's hawkish faction attempted to overthrow the Hokage and seize power.
Therefore, Shizune wanted to observe whether the younger generation of Uchiha leaned more towards the dovish or hawkish faction. If the hawks were in the majority, he feared that the attempted coup during the Second Hokage's era might repeat itself.
When the food was almost ready, Mu Yue called her students to the table to eat.
Minato carried his lunch box and bade farewell to Mu Yue and the others.
"Teacher Minato, why don't you just eat here? Aren't you off duty for the next few days?" Obito asked, confused as he watched Minato leave with his packed meal.
He found Minato's behavior strange. He came to help with cooking every day but always took his food to go.
Minato wore a thoughtful expression, trying to come up with a reasonable explanation for his actions.
Slap!
Mu Yue struck out with a burst of chakra, precisely hitting Obito's forehead with a crisp sound, and said, "The world isn't only busy because of missions, and Teacher Minato can eat the food in his box anytime. If you don't hurry up, all the delicious food will be eaten by others."
Obito immediately activated his Sharingan to enhance his insight and joined them in their intense eating, no longer concerned about Minato's meal.
Minato smiled and shared a glance with Mu Yue before leaving with the dishes to find Kushina.
After the meal, the disciples helped Mu Yue clean up, and it was time for some post-dinner leisure. Might Guy brought up the topic of Teacher Chen.
"Teacher Mu Yue, do you have some free time soon? My mentor, Teacher Chen, would like to discuss cultivation with you."
"Teacher Chen? Sure, no problem. Tell him to choose a time tomorrow or any day this week; I'm available," Mu Yue replied after some thought.
In his previous life, whether it was the anime or the manga, there was no information about Might Guy's mentor. So, after the class allocation results came out, Mu Yue had also used her privileges as a Jonin teacher at the Ninja Academy to take a look at the information.
What surprised her was that Might Guy's mentor turned out to be Teacher Chen, the developer of the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique.
However, Mu Yue soon attributed this to her butterfly effect. In the anime, Might Guy didn't seem to regard Teacher Chen as his mentor.
She speculated that Might Guy's exceptional talent in taijutsu had caused this change in class allocation, and such a talent in taijutsu warranted a suitable mentor.
"This is an opportunity to showcase some of my taijutsu prowess," Mu Yue thought to herself.
It was reasonable for a taijutsu ninja to discuss cultivation through sparring. Moreover, if Teacher Chen used the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique, it would also set the stage for Mu Yue to use it in the future.
"Okay, I understand," Might Guy nodded.
"So, Guy, your mentor is Teacher Chen. Indeed, he's a suitable mentor for you," Kakashi said, recalling some information about Teacher Chen.
Teacher Chen was renowned as Konoha's strongest taijutsu ninja, proficient in various taijutsu styles.
"Who's Teacher Chen? Is he strong? I've never heard of that name," Obito asked curiously, having no recollection of the name.
"How many powerful ninja names do you even know besides Teacher Mu Yue and Teacher Minato?" Kakashi glanced at Obito and said flatly.
In Kakashi's opinion, Obito's knowledge was lacking in most areas except for his exceptional performance in one-on-one battles.
Seeing Kakashi's dismissive attitude towards his knowledge, Obito felt indignant. After thinking for a moment, he said, "The Third Hokage, Jiraiya-sama, and..."
Obito stalled after mentioning the second name, frantically racking his brains but unable to come up with a third.
Kakashi, exasperated, gently rubbed his forehead and said, "You practically don't know any. The Third Hokage's name is Hiruzen Sarutobi, and Jiraiya-sama isn't called a toad."
"Tsunade!" Obito suddenly thought of a name—the ninja that Haruno Rin admired, one of the Sannin, just like Jiraiya.
"Okay, that's one. Who else?" Kakashi asked nonchalantly.
Obito scratched his head, unable to think of any other noteworthy strong ninja. Feeling annoyed, he challenged, "Then, how many can you name? Don't mention the ones I've already said."
"Danzo Shimura, the assistant to the Hokage and a disciple of the Second Hokage. His strength is formidable.
Orochimaru, a disciple of the Third Hokage and, like Jiraiya-sama, one of the Sannin..." Kakashi effortlessly listed numerous powerful Konoha jonin.
"As expected of my dear friend, you know a lot," Might Guy praised, giving Kakashi a thumbs-up. In this regard, he was on par with Obito.
Realizing that he was at a disadvantage, Obito steered the topic back to Teacher Chen's strength. "So, how strong is this Teacher Chen?"
"According to Ebisu, he's Konoha's strongest taijutsu ninja. But I feel that Teacher Mu Yue's taijutsu shouldn't lose to him," Might Guy honestly replied.
He was a relatively knowledgeable person, having witnessed the battle between the Six Gates Might Guy and Mu Yue.
During that battle, neither fighter had gone all out—Might Guy had not utilized the Seventh Gate, and Mu Yue had only activated two gates along with the All-Directional Dynamic Breath. Nonetheless, it had left a profound impression on Might Guy.
"Teacher Mu Yue, can you defeat Teacher Chen using only taijutsu?" Obito, ever direct, chose to ask Mu Yue directly.
"Teacher Chen is indeed strong in taijutsu, but I shouldn't lose," Mu Yue replied with a smile.
"Then it's an absolute victory," Obito translated, paraphrasing Mu Yue's words.
Smack!
Mu Yue lightly rapped Obito's head.
Obito chuckled, feeling that his statement was accurate. The other disciples also believed that Mu Yue possessed the capability to do so.
Especially Might Guy—having trained in both the Eight Gates and the Rock Breath, he knew the terrifying power that could be unleashed when using these forbidden techniques together. The fact that Mu Yue had achieved such strength after only a year of training made him curious about how formidable she would be after an unknown number of years of cultivation.
There's one more chapter coming up.
