Chapter 274: Elite Unit Recruitment Token
Chapter 274: Elite Unit Recruitment Token
September 25, 2017
The small mountain camp had only a few hundred bandits, and most of them were the most basic type with just 2 points in their attributes. Their equipment was also in poor condition.
Against such opponents, the Elite Guard Camp could easily wipe them out without any special preparations. However, medium-sized camps were a different story.
Medium-sized camps started to introduce some elite units, such as the Bandit Archer (Elite) with a strength of 15, which Lu HaiKong had encountered. There were also other elite units that Lu HaiKong hadn't seen before.
For example, the Bandit Blade Diver (Elite) and the Bandit Spearman (Elite) were units that Lu HaiKong hadn't personally encountered, but the Fire Word Regiment had eliminated quite a few of them. It was unclear if it was due to drop rate issues, as they never managed to obtain the recruitment tokens for these special units.
Lu HaiKong wasn't particularly interested in the recruitment tokens for these special units, as the Elite Guard Camp was more than capable of overwhelming the (Elite) units.
Lu HaiKong's main concern was the potential casualties in the Elite Guard Camp. Although medium-sized camps didn't usually have many elite-level soldiers, there would still be around a hundred of them, with the rest being ordinary bandits. Even a hundred elite-level soldiers could pose a significant threat to the Elite Guard Camp.
Therefore, Lu HaiKong led the Elite Guard Camp to gather materials locally, crafting several hundred simple wooden shields to defend against the elite-level archers. With these preparations, Lu HaiKong and Pan Feng set out to conquer the first medium-sized camp the next day.
Fortunately, the chosen medium-sized camp had elite-level units, but instead of archers, they had the weakest of the elite units, the Bandit Blade Diver, with a strength of 15. However, compared to the Elite Guard Camp, they were still far inferior.
Despite the opponent being a medium-sized camp, there were at least one or two thousand bandits in total, so Lu HaiKong couldn't afford to be careless and personally joined the battle.
Lu HaiKong's personal involvement didn't mean he would take action; instead, he commanded the Elite Guard Camp from within the formation. If he were to fight himself, the Elite Guard Camp wouldn't have much to do.
Under Lu HaiKong's command, the Elite Guard Camp advanced and retreated strategically, relying on their strength advantage and the lack of strong long-range attacks from the enemy. Eventually, they eradicated the medium-sized camp in a little over two hours.
Although they emerged victorious, the opponent was a medium-sized camp, and the Elite Guard Camp did suffer some casualties. However, thanks to Lu HaiKong's presence, the casualties were kept to single digits.
Lu HaiKong gained a significant harvest from this battle, as several dozen ordinary bandits from the Elite Guard Camp successfully advanced to the (Elite) unit level. Lu HaiKong was thrilled to obtain a 'Bandit Blade Diver Recruitment Token' (Elite) from the camp boss.

Military Item
Usage Conditions: Barracks Level 10
Although Lu HaiKong didn't plan to recruit new soldiers, having an additional unit type was never a bad thing.
After defeating the medium-sized camp, Lu HaiKong allowed the troops to rest. As Lu HaiKong was planning their strategy for the next camp, Pan Feng approached him with a request to lead the attack on the next mountain camp.
Seeing Pan Feng's excitement, Lu HaiKong suspected that he had developed a bit of an addiction to commanding troops. Pan Feng's sincere request moved Lu HaiKong, who eventually agreed to let Pan Feng lead the attack on the next camp.
Ideally, Pan Feng should have been the one leading the Elite Guard Camp. Lu HaiKong's decision wasn't due to a lack of trust in Pan Feng but rather his desire to improve his command skills.
Despite Pan Feng's imposing appearance, he had a surprising talent for leading troops. Unlike Lu HaiKong's steady and cautious approach, Pan Feng favored a more aggressive style, which inevitably resulted in higher casualties when clearing camps.
As expected, when Pan Feng took over, he immediately unleashed the 'Army-Awesome Presence'.
Pan Feng's 'Army-Awesome Presence' not only stabilized troop morale in adverse situations but also boosted morale and combat effectiveness in favorable conditions.
With Pan Feng's 'Army-Awesome Presence', the entire legion charged forward. Lu HaiKong had taken nearly two hours to conquer the previous medium-sized camp, but Pan Feng managed to take down a medium-sized bandit camp in less than two hours.
However, the cost was higher casualties. Compared to Lu HaiKong's casualties, Pan Feng's Elite Guard Camp suffered significantly more losses. Fortunately, the surviving bandit guards advanced to the (Elite) unit level.
The reason Pan Feng only suffered around twenty casualties in this battle was that the elite unit in this camp was the Bandit Spearman. If they had encountered the Bandit Archer instead, Pan Feng's casualties would have at least doubled.
After this battle, Lu HaiKong obtained another recruitment token, the 'Bandit Spearman Recruitment Token' (Elite). With this, Lu HaiKong now had the complete set of three elite unit tokens.
In addition to the recruitment token, the camp boss also provided Lu HaiKong with a blueprint, which was a bit disappointing as it wasn't a construction blueprint but an equipment blueprint.
Scarlet Feather Spear Blueprint
Item Type: Equipment Blueprint
Crafting Conditions: Advanced Blacksmith
Equipment Description: An elite-level weapon capable of easily piercing through defenses of non-elite units. Extremely sharp and deadly.
Lu HaiKong was thrilled to obtain the blueprint for an elite-level weapon, especially considering that even the 'Light Cloud Spear', 'Light Cloud Armor', and 'Light Cloud Boots' weren't elite-level equipment. This highlighted the exceptional nature of elite-level gear.
Speaking of this, Lu HaiKong couldn't help but complain about Elder Gong Sun. The old man was stubborn and wouldn't work unless he received payment. If he didn't get paid, he wouldn't show up for work the next day. That was tolerable, as it was reasonable to expect compensation for labor.
What infuriated Lu HaiKong was that Elder Gong Sun, a master blacksmith, had countless weapon blueprints in his mind but refused to craft any weapons for Lu HaiKong without the appropriate blueprints. Even the 'Gong Sun Ballista' was optimized by the original group of blacksmiths, and Lu HaiKong had to pay an optimization fee.
If Elder Gong Sun were willing to work, Lu HaiKong was confident that every person in the camp with a strength above a certain level could have an excellent-level weapon.
This was precisely why Lu HaiKong was so excited to obtain the elite-level weapon blueprint. At least the bandits who used spears as weapons would benefit from this.
