Chapter 274: A Brief Separation to Strike Gold
Chapter 274: A Brief Separation to Strike Gold
"Grandma, I'm back!" Deidara exclaimed eagerly as he stepped into the yard.
"Welcome home," his grandmother said with a kind smile as she walked to the door.
"You must be hungry. Let me make you some lunch," she added, turning toward the kitchen, assuming that Deidara hadn't eaten yet since it was midday.
Deidara nodded with a chuckle and took a seat in the living room.
As he settled into the chair, he felt his body and mind relax completely, even feeling a slight drowsiness wash over him.
"I didn't feel tired before, but now that I'm sitting down, I feel exhausted," Deidara mused, scratching his head in confusion.
Despite his puzzlement, he couldn't deny the comfort of being at home, and he relished the chance to unwind.
"Deidara, young Uchiha Obito came by yesterday. He brought quite a few things, and he said that if you had time after completing your mission, you should attend the Uchiha clan's Young Ninja Exchange," his grandmother said, recalling the previous day's events as she began preparing lunch.
"A Young Ninja Exchange? What's that? Do they just chat?" Deidara asked, his curiosity piqued, as he didn't quite understand the concept.
"It's something like that, I suppose. I think they also spar and compete, with rewards for the winners. Your father participated in those exchanges when he was younger," his grandmother reminisced.
"Oh? What reward did Dad get?" Deidara asked, his face lit up with curiosity as he turned toward the kitchen, eager to hear more about his father, a topic his grandmother rarely brought up.
"I don't remember the specifics, but I do recall your father being very happy about it. He told me about the strength of the senior ninjas and how hard he worked to defeat his opponents," she replied, her movements pausing momentarily as she reminisced.
In that moment of recollection, she realized how much time had passed and how many memories of her own child she had forgotten.
"The exchange is in two days. If you don't want to go, Deidara, you don't have to. They don't know when you'll finish your mission anyway," she said, continuing her cooking as she spoke.
She understood that Deidara had never quite fit in with the other Uchiha children his age.
"Why wouldn't I go if there are rewards? And it's not like I have to pay an entry fee," Deidara replied with a playful smile.
While he wasn't interested in socializing with his clan members, the mention of rewards piqued his interest, and he figured it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
"Come and eat now. You need your strength for fighting," his grandmother urged, placing the finished dishes on the table with a cheerful smile.
Deidara eagerly nodded, ready to dig in.
"So, Deidara, how are things going with Rin? Have you told her how you feel yet?" his grandmother asked with a smile.
Deidara coughed, startled by the question, and ended up choking on his food.
His grandmother quickly rushed to his side, gently patting his back to help him ease the coughing fit.
"What do you mean by 'how I feel'? You know we're only nine years old, Grandma," Deidara replied, his face reddening.
His grandmother simply smiled, seeing right through his feeble attempt at hiding his feelings.
"Come now, Grandma, eat while the food is still warm," Deidara said, eager to change the subject and prevent his grandmother from saying anything further that might embarrass him.
After finishing their meal, Deidara shared some stories he had heard from his client about the Land of Hot Water, and then he set off toward the Southern Border Forest for training.
As he approached his destination, he ran into someone he would rather not have seen.
"Not sleeping at home?" Kakashi asked nonchalantly.
He felt a twinge of disappointment, thinking that if Deidara hadn't shown up today, he would have had an extra day to train hard and receive more guidance from Mu Yue.
"Sleep? It's broad daylight. Why would I be sleeping? Of course, I'm here to train with Mu Yue," Deidara replied, having already made his way to the Southern Border Forest.
He was glad he hadn't given in to the slight fatigue he felt earlier, as he would have been none the wiser about Kakashi's secret extra training sessions.
The two exchanged a glance and walked into the forest together. Mu Yue was working on developing her Water Style: Water Breathing, while Itachi was practicing his Constant Walking meditation.
"Why are you here at this hour? Didn't Kakashi-sensei take you for training or a mission today?" Mu Yue asked, feigning ignorance. She knew that Deidara and Kakashi had been out on a mission with Minato, as she had seen the completion rewards.
[Disciples Kakashi and Uchiha Deidara worked hard to complete a client's request, gaining a growth reward of +700 chakra]
Seeing this reward, Mu Yue couldn't help but wonder if it was her doing that kept leading to unexpected events during their missions, or if Deidara and Kakashi were just incredibly unlucky. With only two disciples and no team bonus, seven hundred chakra was a significant amount.
"Could it be that it's not my influence, but that Deidara and Kakashi truly have terrible luck?" Mu Yue thought to herself.
She had initially assumed that her deliberate choices were causing the abundance of unexpected events, but it seemed that even without her involvement, the duo consistently found trouble.
"We just finished a mission, and Kakashi-sensei gave us four days off," Deidara explained.
"This mission was really dangerous. Kakashi's mouth must be cursed or something. Every time he says something won't happen, it happens!
Obito was genuinely awestruck by the peril they had faced. Having not witnessed Mu Yue and the Fourth Raikage's battle, he couldn't fathom the latter's true strength, but even from a distance, he had caught glimpses of the intense combat between the Fourth Raikage and Sensei.
"Was it the Raikage candidate again?" Mu Yue guessed, her eyes narrowing in thought. The mention of Cloud-Hidden and formidable strength immediately brought the Fourth Raikage and Killer B to mind.
After all, encountering the Third Raikage was no trivial matter; he was more likely to appear on crucial battlefields.
"How did you guess, Teacher Mu Yue? You're too incredible!" Obito exclaimed, his eyes wide with admiration. He couldn't believe Mu Yue's casual guess.
"Perhaps I'm just lucky," Mu Yue replied with a smile.
"Alright, let's chat later during our break. For now, let's focus on training," Mu Yue suggested, knowing that Obito and the others had come to the Southern Border Forest to cultivate their skills. There would be plenty of time for conversation later in the evening when they visited his home.
"Kakashi, begin your training with the Lightning Style: Thunderclap Stance. Maintain your focus and stay in this state as long as you have the stamina," Mu Yue instructed.
"Obito, let's start with a new Fire Style jutsu. Once you've mastered it, we'll move on to the breathing technique," she continued, addressing Obito's needs.
Kakashi's immediate priority was addressing his reaction speed issues. Achieving mastery over the Thunderclap Stance in the Lightning Style was crucial for Kakashi, as it would enhance his reflexes.
Training could only do so much to improve his reaction speed; there was an inherent limit to how much it could help. Until Kakashi overcame this hurdle, his Thunderclap Stance would remain constrained, and using his full speed was a gamble, relying on the opponent's inability to react.
As for Obito, Mu Yue felt he lacked a powerful, large-scale Fire Style jutsu.
To prevent accidentally setting the forest ablaze, Mu Yue led Obito to the river's edge for his training session.
"Teacher Mu Yue, what Fire Style jutsu will you be teaching me? Is it the one that creates a sea of flames?" Obito asked eagerly, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. He vividly remembered the intense training session during which Mu Yue had first demonstrated that technique.
"No, but in terms of power, this jutsu is no less impressive," Mu Yue replied, shaking his head.
He was referring to the Fire Style: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet, a technique taught to him by Danzo Shimura, who had provided the necessary scroll.
Mu Yue began by explaining the release principle, key points, and demonstrating the jutsu.
"Fire Style: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"
With swift hand seals, Mu Yue channeled his chakra, exhaling a torrent of ferocious flames.
Unlike ordinary Fire Style jutsu, the Fire Dragon Flame Bullet's ferocity allowed it to attack from multiple directions simultaneously.
Of course, such power came at a cost. The flames of the Fire Dragon Flame Bullet were notoriously difficult to control. If not used properly, the user risked burning themselves instead of attacking from multiple angles.
Under Mu Yue's skilled control, the unruly flames divided into three streams, rushing toward the river and evaporating large quantities of water, causing billowing white mist to rise.
The sudden evaporation of such a vast amount of water caused the river's surface to appear momentarily uneven to Obito's eyes.
"This jutsu is powerful, but it also consumes a lot of chakra. Don't use it recklessly like the Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu," Mu Yue cautioned.
"Yes, I understand," Obito replied, his eyes gleaming as he watched the raging flames of the Fire Dragon Flame Bullet. He eagerly nodded, resembling a chick pecking at rice.
After the demonstration, Mu Yue meticulously broke down the jutsu, explaining and demonstrating each component in detail.
His teaching style varied depending on the student. With Shisui, he would not go into such depth, as it would be a waste of time. Shisui was adept at applying principles across different techniques, quickly grasping new concepts.
[You taught your disciple the Fire Style: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet. Due to your disciple's gratitude, you receive a Critical Hit bonus, unlocking the Water Style: Water Prison Jutsu (Proficient Level).]
It had been a while since they last met, and despite Mu Yue's casual demeanor, Obito's emotions ran high, resulting in a small Critical Hit.
The Water Prison Jutsu was indeed a valuable addition to Obito's arsenal. It could be used to trap enemies or even protect himself by deflecting attacks.
As their training session drew to a close, Mu Yue invited all three disciples to his home for a meal.
"Yay! We get to eat Teacher Mu Yue's cooking again!" Obito readily agreed.
Shisui and Kakashi also happily accepted the invitation.
That evening, as Mu Yue prepared dinner, Sensei and Might Guy joined them at his home.
