Chapter 273: It's Said That the Aurors Were Terrified That Day
Chapter 273: It’s Said That the Aurors Were Terrified That Day
The next morning, before dawn, Sirius Black, who had been curled up in a corner resting, was startled awake by a slight noise. He jumped up, his right hand instinctively reaching for his Wand, but found nothing.
Then, Sirius remembered where he was and relaxed his guard.
Ivan was busy dealing with the remnants of the failed potion from the night before. Even with his current level five Potions expertise, he had failed several times before successfully brewing Veritaserum, a highly difficult potion.
"You’re up so early?" Sirius was quite surprised, then frowned as he remembered something. "Or did you not sleep at all last night?"
Ivan ignored him completely.
For Ivan, now was not the time to rest. Every moment was precious.
He had already thought of a way to recreate the scene from that day.
This time, while luring out those spies, he also planned to use them as test subjects.
Ivan’s silence irked Sirius, who spoke again.
"Listen, kid, you should go to sleep and give me your Wand. Whatever you need to deal with, whatever you need to do, I can handle it for you. Killing isn’t something a young wizard like you should be doing, and you don’t need to put yourself at risk!"
Sirius spoke earnestly. After escaping from Azkaban, he was eager to track Peter’s movements, but that didn’t mean he would stand by and let the child of his former comrade face trouble alone.
In fact, Sirius didn’t want to see a child as young as Ivan facing dangerous Dark Wizards. The time he would spend waiting was worth it.
Ivan glanced at him, his eyes filled with distrust. The meaning was clear:
You? Save it.
Sirius understood Ivan’s look and felt completely underestimated. He was a battle-hardened wizard who had dealt with countless Dark Wizards.
In the Order of the Phoenix, his combat skills were among the best, if not the best.
Sirius believed that the main reason he had been captured so easily was because he didn’t have his Wand.
Ivan’s next words shattered Sirius’s confidence.
"How many Dark Wizards can you handle at once? Three? Five? Ten? What if there are dozens? What will you do then?" Ivan asked.
Sirius was speechless. He hadn’t considered facing so many enemies. Dealing with three or five Dark Wizards was already a struggle, and there was a risk of losing.
Any more, and he would prefer to retreat and fight another day.
"Are there really that many enemies?" Sirius asked, amazed. The Ministry of Magic only had a little over a hundred Aurors, and he had assumed the opponent was just a powerful Dark Wizard.
"You’d better be prepared for that!" Ivan wasn’t entirely sure what they would face, but he didn’t want Sirius to be too complacent.
Sirius realized Ivan wasn’t joking and stopped trying to persuade him. Instead, he asked detailed questions about Ivan’s next steps.
Ivan didn’t hide anything and explained his bait plan. He then handed over ten Wands, letting Sirius choose a suitable one.
These Wands were taken from the black-robed wizards who had attacked the Dark Magic Shop.
Notably, for some reason, he hadn’t found Aisha’s Wand at the scene.
While Sirius was choosing a Wand, Ivan drank the Polyjuice Potion. The taste was awful, like expired soup.
A moment later, Ivan’s body began to elongate and transform. When he looked in the mirror again, he found that he looked exactly like the young wizard he had killed with the Basilisk Eye.
Ivan used a Transfiguration Spell to make his clothes fit better and instructed Dobby and Sirius Black not to follow too closely, so as not to arouse suspicion.
After that, Ivan took a flask of Polyjuice Potion and walked out of the temporary residence.
Sirius Black transformed back into a Black Dog and followed slowly, while Dobby snapped his fingers and disappeared on the spot.
After leaving, Ivan wandered aimlessly through Knockturn Alley, trying to stay in crowded areas and making some odd gestures or stirring up trouble to attract as much attention as possible.
Whether his behavior matched that of the young Black-robed Wizard he was impersonating was not important.
The difference was whether the other side would send someone to approach him amicably or to capture and interrogate him.
Wandering around for a whole day, Ivan found that no one had approached him, and he had not encountered any attacks.
Frowning, Ivan still proceeded to the final destination as planned.
In the evening, Ivan wearing a black robe, entered the Leaky Cauldron.
The place was still bustling with noise, the rising heat from the stoves spreading warmth. Two Goblins were sitting at the front, arguing over who should pay for the drinks.
Behind them, a male wizard who had had too much to drink was singing off-key, but the other customers paid no mind, with some even jokingly chiming in.
Ivan even spotted Harry eating dinner in a corner, looking in good spirits, possibly because he had escaped punishment?
At the next table, two wizards were playing cards. One of them glanced subtly towards Harry, while the other stared at the newly arrived Ivan. Seeing that he did not approach Harry, the wizard lost interest and focused on his cards.
Ivan guessed that these two might be Aurors assigned to protect Harry, but it was none of his concern.
"Barkeep, a bottle of Butterbeer!" Ivan shouted, tossing a few bronze Knuts over.
"Got it, why so loud?" Tom, who was chatting with a flamboyant witch, grumbled, then took the money and placed a bottle of Butterbeer on the table.
The other patrons in the bar also turned to look at Ivan due to his loud voice.
Ivan deliberately turned to acknowledge them, his goal being to attract as much attention as possible.
Turning back, Ivan took a few swigs of Butterbeer. Since no one had shown up, he deliberately complained to Tom. "Things have been rather unstable in Knockturn Alley lately. I feel like it’s not safe to go out."
Tom perked up at this, immediately joining in. "Yeah, I heard two gangs of Dark Wizards had a fight at a Dark Magic Shop. It went on for a while, leaving a lot of bodies and blood everywhere."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. They say the Aurors who arrived were scared out of their wits", Tom remarked.
Ivan frowned. He remembered clearly placing the attackers’ bodies in a compartment and cleaning up all the traces.
Could it be that a group of Aurors passed by while he was looking for Dugard?
Ivan felt that what Tom described seemed to be a different incident from what he had experienced.
