Chapter 272: Love Makes the Heart Grow Fond
Chapter 272: Love Makes the Heart Grow Fond
The reason Feng Lihua told Lu Jiaxin about this was that her friend's younger brother was planning to leave the Flying Tigers. For someone with his profession, leaving usually meant becoming a bodyguard.
Lu Jiaxin asked, "Is he willing to work for me?"
Feng Lihua nodded and said, "I've told my friend about your situation, and she said her brother wants to meet you before making a decision."
"Let him decide the time. I'll be in Harbor City this week," Lu Jiaxin said.
Having been busy with her studies for the past year, she had only visited Harbor City and the Ocean Park, and hadn't explored much else. Now that her exams were over, she planned to take the time to thoroughly explore Harbor City.
"Should I call this number when the time comes?"
"Yes, call this number. If I'm out, I'll call you back before 9 o'clock."
"Okay."
In the afternoon, Nie Zhan sent his driver to pick her up. Lu Jiaxin didn't refuse because she wanted the servants of the Gu residence to witness this. The He family would likely be cautious about her relationship with Nie Zhan and wouldn't dare to do anything rash, even if they had any ill intentions.
Worried that she might get bored waiting for him, Nie Zhan specifically asked Wang Yadan to wait for them at the tennis court.
As the weather in June was already quite hot, everyone dressed accordingly in cooler attire. Wang Yadan, in particular, wore a slim-fitting, figure-flattering tennis outfit made of ice silk short-sleeves.
Noticing Lu Jiaxin staring at her, Wang Yadan immediately regretted her choice of clothing: "Miss Lu, please don't get the wrong idea. I usually wear this outfit when I play tennis. If you don't like it, I can go change right now."
Lu Jiaxin was perplexed: "Why would I want you to change? This outfit looks great on you."
Relieved that Lu Jiaxin didn't find her outfit too revealing, Wang Yadan secretly breathed a sigh of relief: "Miss Lu, your outfit is lovely too. It makes your skin look especially fair."
Lu Jiaxin was wearing a white tracksuit, but hers was a loose-fitting style: "Mine is nothing special. You, on the other hand, have a fantastic figure, Wang."
It wasn't flattery—Wang Yadan indeed had a great figure, with curves in all the right places. Lu Jiaxin guessed she was a C-cup. Sighing, she thought to herself that at seventeen, she was probably never going to develop beyond her current 'flight deck' status.
Realizing she had misinterpreted Lu Jiaxin's gaze earlier, Wang Yadan now understood that Lu Jiaxin had been admiring her figure. A slight smile curved her lips as she said, "Miss Lu, you're so pretty, especially with those long, straight, and fair legs. If you were to join the Miss Hong Kong pageant, I'm sure you'd bring home the crown."
As soon as she said those words, she regretted them. This was the second person to suggest this to Lu Jiaxin, and she was, after all, her boss's favorite lady. Suggesting that she join the pageant would only create more competition for her boss's affections!
"Never mind, I won't take away someone else's opportunity," Lu Jiaxin smiled and replied.
Those who entered the Miss Hong Kong pageant either had dreams of becoming a celebrity or saw it as a stepping stone into high society. She wasn't interested in either of those things.
"Miss Lu, the boss mentioned that you haven't played tennis before. I'll teach you how to serve first," Wang Yadan said.
The original owner of Lu Jiaxin's body hadn't played before, so she smiled and replied, "Sure."
Lu Jiaxin was already skilled at the game, so she picked it up very quickly. By the time Nie Zhan arrived, the two of them were already playing a match. However, as Lu Jiaxin had been out of practice for a long time, her skills were still a bit rusty, and she lost after receiving only three or four serves.
"Sorry, I was held up by some sudden company matters," Nie Zhan apologized to Lu Jiaxin.
Everyone encountered unexpected events from time to time, so Lu Jiaxin naturally didn't mind: "I just heard from Wang that you were the vice-captain of your university's tennis team and that you almost went pro?"
Nie Zhan corrected her: "Not the vice-captain, just a regular member. The captain went on to play professionally and invited me to join, but I declined.
Nie Zhan offered her a bottle of water, and Lu Jiaxin took it and drank half of it before joking, "You're so thoughtful. How could your ex-girlfriend bear to break up with you?"
Lu Jiaxin didn't believe Wang Yadan when she said that Nie Zhan had never dated anyone before. A man of Nie Zhan's caliber would surely have many female admirers, and it was impossible to believe that none of them had ever touched his heart. If that were truly the case, then she would have to reconsider her options carefully.
After a moment of silence, Nie Zhan replied, "It was me who initiated the breakup."
Lu Jiaxin's curiosity piqued, and she asked, "May I ask why? If you don't want to talk about it, I won't press further."
Nie Zhan didn't see any reason to keep it a secret. "It was my fault. After we became official, she wanted to be with me at all times, except when I was in class."
"I believe that whether it's dating or marriage, both parties should have their own social circles and personal space. She felt that being in a relationship meant having no secrets and minimal contact with the opposite sex. I couldn't accept that, so I broke up with her," Nie Zhan explained.
Lu Jiaxin understood. It seemed that his ex-girlfriend wanted to devote herself fully to the relationship, expecting the same from him, while Nie Zhan believed that a relationship shouldn't consume their entire lives. Neither was wrong; they simply had different perspectives.
Nie Zhan looked at Lu Jiaxin and said, "I think women should have their own careers and social circles as well..."
Tilting her head to the side as she looked at him, Lu Jiaxin replied with a mischievous smile, "I'm a romance-obsessed person. Once I'm in a relationship, I devote all my energy and attention to my partner."
Upon hearing the term 'romance-obsessed,' Nie Zhan immediately thought of his mother, for whom this term was most fitting. He had wanted to say that Lu Jiaxin wasn't like that, but then he recalled Feng Qinglei's advice about how girls liked to hear compliments. After some thought, he sincerely said, "You're romance-obsessed, and I like that about you."
Seeing him being so earnest about his romantic words, Lu Jiaxin couldn't help but burst out laughing.
