Chapter 270: Fried
Chapter 270: Fried
Mira's mood improved significantly when she saw Erza react this way.
Losing to Erza once, it seemed she had won back in a strange way.
Mira picked up the 'Top-Grade Sweet-Deadly Strawberries', washed them again, and put them aside. She then tidied up the broken bowl and pushed the dazed Erza into the kitchen to make a cake.
With the matters outside being handled by Rhod, Mira felt very relieved.
However, in the afternoon, an unfriendly person arrived at the guild.
Rhod looked at the long green hair: "You are... Fried?"
The other person nodded and placed a mission request on the counter: "Where is Mira Jane? Or the Guild Master?"
"I can handle it. They are busy with other matters."
Rhod reached for the mission request, but Fried pressed it down.
He said calmly: "The rules are absolute."
Rhod was puzzled: "What do you mean?"
Fried explained: "According to the rules, accepting a mission should be done in the presence of the Guild Master or their assistant. I cannot confirm your identity or whether you have the authority to do so."
It seemed Fried was a rather rigid person. Rhod nodded, understanding that the guild had its fair share of odd characters, and Fried was no exception.
He pointed to the emblem on his arm and said patiently:
"Rhod, joined the guild last July, and have been helping Mira handle such matters since the beginning of this year. The Guild Master has approved it, and you can verify this with most of the guild members."
Fried glanced around the guild, and while some people were surprised by his appearance, no one seemed to find it strange that Rhod was standing there.
He nodded and lifted his hand from the mission request: "I see. I've heard of you, the 'New Era Fairy Strategist.' As long as the rules are followed, I'll leave it to you."
He didn't seem particularly difficult to talk to, just not very frequent in the guild.
Rhod's initial impression of Fried was favorable—rigid, serious, but reasonable and rule-abiding.
He carefully read through the content and flipped through the mission documents. It was a task to chase down a criminal gang, which included quite dangerous mages.
Rhod frowned: "This mission is very challenging. Are you going alone?"
"We, the Thunder God Tribe, will act together. If necessary, Laxus will also participate."
Fried only showed a hint of a smile when mentioning Laxus.
Rhod nodded, so there was no problem.
He stamped the request and wrote the names of the Thunder God Tribe and Laxus in the register. He then handed over the necessary documents and the mission request to Fried.
"I suggest you pay special attention to the second and third pages, but with Laxus around, it shouldn't be a big issue. Be careful on the way."
Fried could sense Rhod's goodwill.
More importantly, he could tell that Rhod held Laxus in high regard.
This made Fried's gaze soften toward Rhod.
His criteria for judging people were relatively simple—'As long as you respect Laxus enough, we might become friends.'
As he left the guild, Fried was considering whether to invite Rhod to join the Thunder God Tribe.
He would gather more information about Rhod after completing this mission to see if he lived up to his reputation.
Rhod, on the other hand, was thinking about how Fried seemed like a subservient little wife when he was around Laxus the last time they met...
But after a brief conversation, he found that Fried, apart from being very strict about 'rules,' was relatively normal compared to most of his companions.
A while later, Erza came out of the kitchen with a small cake, as there weren't many strawberries.
Even so, Erza generously gave half to Mira.
"Oh, Erza, this makes me feel a bit embarrassed. I was just teasing her earlier."
"I'd believe you if you didn't keep smiling while saying it."
"Hmph~" Mira tasted the cake Erza called the best in Fiore.
Rhod also naturally got a taste.
"Delicious!" Rhod didn't ramble on as he used to, but gave a straightforward and simple evaluation, then continued to open his mouth for more.
Mira was in a good mood today, so she decided to indulge him a bit.
She accidentally saw the names in the register and exclaimed, "Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe have come?"
"Freed took the mission. Erbagerin and Bigusrow were waiting for him outside and didn't see Laxus."
Rhod wasn't very familiar with the Thunder God Tribe's strength and asked, "Is this kind of mission okay for them?"
"It's fine. The Thunder God Tribe is one of the strongest teams in the guild. They've completed many high-difficulty missions."
Mira thought for a moment and added, "But I haven't seen them in action for a very long time. They must have become even stronger, right?"
Rhod casually asked, "What kind of magic do they use? Is it also lightning-based?"
They had talked about them before, but he hadn't asked much about their magic.
But the fact that even Mira had to think hard to recall their magic showed how isolated they were in the guild.
"Sounds like they all use very powerful magic..." Rhod didn't think much more about it; it was good that his companions were strong.
"This is the last strawberry." Mira shook the fork in her hand.
Rhod grabbed her hand and suggested, "Why don't we just hold it and bite together, one half each?"
Mira seemed to visualize the scene and her cheeks turned red. She quickly snatched the strawberry and puffed out one side of her cheek like a hamster, looking at Rhod triumphantly.
She was kind of cute.
So, Rhod took advantage of her moment of triumph, sneakily kissed her puffed cheek, and then got up to run away: "I'm going to the library!"
Kissing and running, it was quite exhilarating.
...
In the year X686, the first Master Mavis founded Fairy Tail along with Yuri Doreah, Precht Gerbera, and Volod Shinken.
The four were known as the 'Original Fairies,' but according to the first Master, there was a fifth Original Fairy, though few knew who it was or what they looked like.
It was something from 98 years ago, and as Rhod flipped through the guild's records, he wondered if that person was some hidden big shot.
Continuing to read, he found more interesting entries. Yuri Doreah was the old man's father and Laxus's great-grandfather.
The Master's birth was even recorded in the guild's history.
Yuri had married and had a child in front of everyone, and the first Master had even helped name the child.
Reading this, Rhod couldn't help but think about his and Mira's future. If things went well, they would also marry and have children with everyone's witness and blessings, right?
And then the child would grow up in the guild... well, he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but at least they wouldn't have to worry about being bullied in the future.
Rhod slapped his face; he was already daydreaming in broad daylight.
Back to reading.
He was becoming increasingly interested in the guild's past and thought about telling the new members about it in the future.
—He suspected that even the 'old-timers' like Natsu and Gray might not know these things.
The last new member to join the guild was Tono, and that was five months ago. He wondered when the next new member would join.
Would it be Lucy or Wendy?
Rhod remembered the posters he had seen in the dormitory. He had already met Wendy, and Lucy, if he recalled correctly, was a blonde girl.
Although he didn't know who would join first, once they both joined, life probably wouldn't be as peaceful as it was now, right?
