Chapter 270: Don't You Train?
Chapter 270: Don’t You Train?
In his past life, if it wasn’t his turn to compete that day, Qiao Sang would definitely pack up and head home as soon as possible.
It wasn’t that he lacked a sense of collective honor; it was just that as he grew older, he found the Sports Meet increasingly boring. The events were always the same—running, high jump, and so on. After a while, they lost their appeal.
In his past life, the opening ceremony was the most crowded time of the entire Sports Meet. Once it was over, most people dispersed, and only those whose classes were about to compete stayed to watch at the school track.
However, the Beast Trainer Society was different. Most of the participants were familiars, and even if the events were the same every year, the variety in familiar forms and traits made them more interesting to watch.
Qiao Sang decided to stay and cheer for his classmates.
"Seek..."
Treasure Seeker drooped when it realized it wouldn’t be competing that day.
Qiao Sang rubbed its head and smiled. "It’s good you’re competing tomorrow. You’ll have another day to practice. I’ll go find out who your opponents are so we can prepare better."
"Seek~"
Treasure Seeker’s eyes lit up, thinking this was a good plan.
"I know!" Zhang Shuzhou, who had been talking to someone else, suddenly chimed in enthusiastically. "I know who’s competing in Bare-handed Tile Split tomorrow!"
Although he had been chatting with others, Qiao Sang, being the school’s star, was hard to ignore, especially with his dyed hair and the Treasure Hunter Demon.
Zhang Shuzhou kept glancing at the Treasure Hunter Demon out of the corner of his eye.
Treasure Hunter Demon...
He never thought that Wang Yiding from the neighboring class was telling the truth...
Zhang Shuzhou looked at Qiao Sang with a complicated expression, thinking she should be called "Qiao Monstrosity" instead.
Qiao Sang, unaware of Zhang Shuzhou’s thoughts, asked, "Who else?"
"Thirteen people are participating, one from each class", Zhang Shuzhou said. "Apart from Li Jiang from Class 2 and Zhao Fangrui from Class 8, the other eleven, no, including you, twelve participants, are all Combat-type Companions. The other ten classes are sending Combat-type Companions."
"Among them, the one with the best chances of winning, besides you, is Liu Qijia from Class 9. His familiar is a Mighty Monkey. I heard his father is a Beastmaster who specializes in breeding Combat-type Companions. He’s quite formidable."
Qiao Sang was taken aback. "How do you know I have a good chance of winning?"
Zhang Shuzhou chuckled. "Who doesn’t know about your Treasure Seeker, no, the Treasure Hunter Demon? Who doesn’t know that your Treasure Hunter Demon not only knows Tile Split but has mastered it to perfection? You could easily crush even the juniors, let alone the freshmen."
Qiao Sang’s mouth twitched. "That’s just a rumor."
"Rumor?!" Zhang Shuzhou exclaimed. "You mean your Treasure Hunter Demon doesn’t know Tile Split?"
The entire class fell silent and looked over.
Qiao Sang hesitated for a moment. "...It does."
The class resumed their conversations.
"I knew it was true", Zhang Shuzhou said with a smile.
Qiao Sang: "..."
...
8:10 AM.
After the school leaders’ usual speeches, almost all the students summoned their familiars.
Familiars were usually not allowed to be summoned casually, but the Sports Meet was an exception.
In no time, the school track was filled with familiars.
Qiao Sang summoned Fangy as well.
Lulu had been sleeping when he put her in the Beastmaster Codex that morning. Since not much time had passed, he decided to let her sleep a bit longer.
"Fangy!"
Fangy wagged its tail excitedly, taking in the lively atmosphere.
"Fangy, do you remember Ballpuff?" Qiao Sang asked.
"Fangy!" Fangy tried to recall.
"The one who’s really timid and has a dandelion on its head", Qiao Sang reminded.
"Fangy!"
Fangy barked, indicating it remembered.
"We're going to watch the Shuttlecock Kicking competition now", Qiao Sang said.
"Ya!"
"Xun!"
Jin Fanfei's Shuttlecock Kicking match was scheduled for today, and it was one of the earliest events, almost immediately after the opening ceremony. The competition area was already packed with spectators.
Qiao Sang, seeing the crowd, simply flipped onto Fangy's back.
Fangy immediately understood his Beastmaster's intent and used Psychic Power to levitate above the crowd, giving them an unobstructed view. Qiao Sang felt a surge of satisfaction.
"Bang!"
With the sound of the starting signal, the thirteen familiars began their Shuttlecock Kicking.
Qiao Sang's eyes were fixed on Ballpuff. Despite its spherical body and short legs, Ballpuff moved with surprising agility, deftly kicking the shuttlecock back and forth between its feet without resorting to Vine Whip.
Equally impressive was the Multi-claw Crab at the far end. It remained in the same spot, using its ten claws to kick the shuttlecock in a continuous, coordinated manner.
In theory, Shuttlecock Kicking should cause the familiar to move, no matter how well they kicked. Yet, the Multi-claw Crab managed to stay in place.
Is this what coordination means? Qiao Sang wondered to herself.
Fangy's Mental Power and basic attributes were far superior to those of other familiars of the same rank, whether it was Stamina, physical strength, speed, or burst power. However, in terms of coordination, there seemed to be no particular advantage.
Coordination, in simple terms, was control.
The higher the Skill Proficiency, the stronger the control.
Fangy could improve its control by enhancing Skill Proficiency, but this only applied to specific techniques, not to bodily control or energy control.
Qiao Sang couldn't help but think that although Fangy had made significant improvements in Mental Power and energy, the distance between the original and the Clone was still considerable. If Fangy could improve its control, it might be able to extend that distance further.
What method could be used to train Fangy's coordination?
"Ya Ya!"
Fangy enthusiastically cheered for Ballpuff, completely unaware that its Beastmaster was contemplating how to train it.
7:02 PM.
Skyview Manor, Room 1705.
"Are you not training?" Qiao Sang asked Glacialia.
"Lu."
Glacialia gave a cold flick of its tail.
Only someone like Fangy needed training. Glacialia was naturally superior.
The Vice Principal had said that after an Aquariana Evolution, a familiar would naturally want to become stronger. This didn't seem to apply to Glacialia. Qiao Sang was puzzled.
She thought for a moment and asked, "You were learning Rain Invocation recently. Are you not practicing it anymore?"
Glacialia looked at Qiao Sang, briefly baring its teeth before quickly regaining its composure.
If not for Qiao Sang's keen eyesight, she would have thought she had imagined it.
"Lu."
Glacialia flicked its tail and walked away with a cold demeanor, heading towards the Courtyard.
Qiao Sang was taken aback for a moment but quickly followed.
In the Courtyard, Glacialia deliberately stopped near where Fangy was.
"Lu Lu."
Then, Glacialia lifted its head and called out.
A cold wind blew, and a dark cloud appeared in the sky. Two seconds later, rain began to fall.
It's raining?
Feeling the drops on her face, Qiao Sang looked puzzled. She seemed to have an idea and quickly accessed the Beastmaster Codex to check Lulu's data.
