Chapter 27: What Does This Have to Do with Guidance?
Chapter 27: What Does This Have to Do with Guidance?
"Your alma mater… Oh, it’s not a top-tier university, huh? That makes things difficult. Do you have a medical license?"
What's going on…
"And you probably don’t have three years of clinical experience. Who was your mentor? Do you have a recommendation letter from them? What were your grades in school? Where did you intern?"
What is this…
"Let me ask you this: What do you think your advantages are compared to the other applicants?"
The voice in my ear…
"Heh… Ahem, of course. Being a recent graduate is certainly an advantage. You can go home and wait for news. We’ll send you the interview results within a week."
The familiar scene before my eyes…
"Are young people today really that naive? They don’t even know what they can do, what they want to do, or what they should do. They barge in here, wasting my time. What’s the point?"
I knew he was strong…
"The price of the game helmet is eighteen thousand. If you can’t even come up with that, how are you going to work for it? Give up."
I never thought it would actually come to this…
Beep! Beep!
"Getting knocked out with just one punch!"
Luk suddenly opened his eyes. His body had been slammed into the ground by one of Cap’s punches, the sheer force creating a massive, fan-shaped gash in the earth.
"Ouch…"
It hurt like hell.
This was nothing like the light sparring sessions in the mysterious space. This punch felt like it was trying to kill him.
Three of his ribs were broken, fortunately not puncturing his lungs. His right hand, which had managed to block the punch at the last moment, was fractured, sending a wave of intense pain from his wrist. It was almost useless. His spine seemed to have suffered some minor damage, but he could still move.
The old man, who didn’t look particularly muscular but had an overwhelming presence, jumped down into the gash he had created, his entire body radiating a deadly aura.
Using a Swallow Hawk to barely support himself, Luk felt a chill run down his spine. The pure killing intent made his body tremble uncontrollably, his adrenaline surging, and his body temperature rising.
No, that’s impossible. Old man Cap wouldn’t kill me.
He has no reason to.
His rational mind told him that Cap was just sparring with him, but his instincts were screaming that the man before him was dead serious.
"Vice Admiral Cap, you’re not really going to go all out, are you?"
He switched to a more formal address, his tone heavy with concern.
"This is guidance, and it’s also a fight. The first rule of combat is to have the resolve to kill your opponent. You’ve never been in a real fight, have you? You still don’t have any killing intent."
But in the world of pirates, people’s blood runs thick, and deaths are rare!
Luk was at a loss.
Cap’s sharp gaze fell on Luk, like an invisible blade slicing through his body.
"If I were to kill you right now, what would you rely on?"
"Your unmanifested talent, your friendship with my grandson, your background from the Alabasta royal family, or just the two times you called me grandpa?"
Cap took a step closer to the panting Luk, his aura intensifying with each step, causing sweat to bead on Luk’s forehead.
"Luk, strength is the absolute and only thing that matters."
"Even if you have the potential to become an Emperor, even if you are my own grandson, even if you are a supreme Celestial Dragon, when you stand face to face with me, and no one is there to protect you, the only thing that matters is strength."
The fist, filled with a bone-chilling force, was raised again. Cap’s legs coiled, and he seemed to teleport right in front of Luk, delivering another punch.
Bang!
Crack.
The force was even greater than the first punch.
The already damaged earth suffered a second blow. Under Cap’s iron fist, the hard rock and soil split like paper, and even the wind from his punch could tear through anything.
Only then did Cap finish his sentence: "Strength is the only condition that decides life and death!"
"Rash actions can lead to problems you’ve never even considered."
In the deep pit, the massive impact kicked up a cloud of dust. From the unseen depths, a golden light suddenly flared, and a golden stream shot toward Cap.
Smack!
Like swatting a fly, Cap effortlessly deflected the incoming light, his expression unchanged. "You’re still alive, I see."
“Damn, I won’t die even if you do, cough, cough…”
In the dust, Luk held his Falcon in his right hand and clutched his mouth with his left, coughing up blood involuntarily. His forehead was gashed, and blood trickled into his eyes, turning his vision crimson.
A golden aura, summoned by the Golden Light Spell, flowed over his body like water.
His survival was thanks to the Healing Technique he had recently learned from the Soul Reaper world.
This technique was the most unique among the Soul Reaper's Kido. Unlike the Bind and Destruct techniques, which had a variety of effects, the Healing Technique had a single, straightforward purpose: to heal.
Simple, but highly effective.
After extensive testing by the various Leks, they found that the Healing Technique could heal physical injuries, though its efficiency varied across different worlds. In the Soul Reaper world, it was unsurprisingly the most potent. The Naruto and One Punch Man worlds were also quite accepting of healing techniques. The One Piece world, due to the diverse Devil Fruit abilities, was also compatible with healing, though not as effective as the other three.
The Dragon Blood Luk, however, had the least success. The ether and the four elements in his world had no affinity for healing, and even the Dragon Kings relied on their powerful bodies and natural regenerative abilities.
After taking the first punch from Garp, Luk had secretly used the Healing Technique to mend his injuries. Before the second punch landed, he activated the Golden Light Spell, concentrating all the golden light at the point where Garp's fist was about to strike.
The "crack" was the sound of the golden light shattering. Thanks to the buffer provided by the golden light, he managed to block the punch using a combination of energies in both his arms.
It was terrifying.
The Healing Technique continued to mend his body as Luk warily watched the old man, who was now twisting his neck, seemingly warming up.
Before the addition of the One Punch Man and Dragon Blood Luks, his physical strength, according to Koshiro's evaluation, had already surpassed that of most swordsmen. With the two Luks added, his physical strength had improved even further, likely matching that of a top-tier swordsman.
Yet, he couldn't withstand even Garp, who wasn't using Haki.
Was it the exponential growth of power as the story progressed, or did Koshiro overestimate his physical strength? Or perhaps both?
No, no, the most likely explanation was that he hadn't fully utilized his own strength. Even the strongest abilities would be ineffective without proper technique.
The Dragon Blood Luk had been mocked by the others for his poor combat awareness, but they didn’t realize that they were not much better.
Almost all the Luks had little to no combat experience. The Naruto Luk always played it safe, the Soul Reaper Luk was studying at the Seireitei, using Kido only for target practice, and the One Punch Man Luk focused solely on training, with his only combat experience being a swift defeat by Zhang Lingyu.
As for the Dragon Blood Luk, he was a nobody before getting his golden finger, unable to even defeat the village geese.
He was the one who had the most combat experience, but sparring with his seniors was always a one-sided affair. He didn’t need to think; his sheer strength alone was enough to prevent them from displaying their sword skills. Even his Flying Slash technique was used without any real effort or bloodshed.
Luk took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. There was no time to dwell on these thoughts. He needed to focus all his attention on Garp to avoid the next attack.
"Your aura seems a bit stronger now. Is that golden light a Devil Fruit ability?"
Garp paid no mind to Luk’s caution, merely noting the golden light around him. "It’s a new one, but that’s to be expected, given how many Devil Fruit users there are on the Grand Line."
"Do you know the most effective way to deal with Devil Fruit users?"
A layer of pitch-black substance covered Garp’s fist as he raised it.
"Haki. It can weaken or even nullify the power of Devil Fruit abilities. Everyone has it, but whether they can harness it depends on their ability."
This was the first time Luk had a clear look at Haki. It felt similar to the spiritual pressure in the Soul Reaper world, a method of channeling and using mental energy.
Garp, now using Armament Haki…
Luk’s face turned grim.
This was an opponent he couldn’t defeat at this stage.
What kind of training was this? It was pure murder!
