Chapter 27: Jerry's Flag
Chapter 27: Jerry's Flag
"Snap!"
Neville reached out to catch the chocolate frog that had jumped from the box onto the table, then popped it into his mouth, biting off its head in one go and swallowing it with a few chews.
(How cruel!ヽ()!!!)
Trevor, the golden-backed toad who had been lounging next to Neville, watched as Neville devoured the chocolate frog. He shuddered silently, turned, and quietly hopped off the seat, vanishing with a few quick leaps.
"Neville, you seem to really enjoy eating chocolate frogs!"
Hermione took a small bite of her cake, watching as Neville polished off six chocolate frogs in quick succession, her curiosity piqued.
"I don't particularly like them, but they come with cards of famous wizards. I've collected quite a few. Oh, wait, I forgot how many I have and which ones I'm still missing!"
Neville pulled a card from the box and placed it in front of them, but halfway through his explanation, he suddenly grew sad.
Indeed, the combination of blind box surprises and collecting mania works wonders on people of all ages and nationalities, even wizards are no exception.
Jerry remembered from his past life that as a child, he spent most of his pocket money on Little Raccoon Instant Noodles, not because he loved the taste, but to collect the 108 Water Margin hero cards inside.
Though he never managed to complete the set.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he and Hermione turned their attention to the card on the table.
The card depicted a clearly very old man, with white hair and a long white beard.
The man had a crooked, long nose, wore half-moon glasses, and was dressed in a purple wizard's robe, looking very kind.
Below the image, a name was written: Albus Dumbledore!
"It's Dumbledore!"
Hermione exclaimed upon seeing the name.
Jerry flipped the card over, revealing a series of facts about Dumbledore:
Albus Dumbledore, current Headmaster of Hogwarts,
widely regarded as the greatest wizard of modern times,
Dumbledore's notable achievements include:
defeating the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945,
discovering the twelve uses of dragon's blood,
and his significant contributions to alchemy with his partner Nicolas Flamel.
Dumbledore enjoys chamber music and ten-pin bowling.
"Defeating Grindelwald in 1945, that's probably the last thing old Dumbledore wanted to be known for!"
Having seen "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", Jerry knew that Dumbledore and Grindelwald had been deeply in love.
Flipping the card back over, the image of Dumbledore had vanished, likely visiting other cards.
"Neville, you should cut down on the chocolate frogs!"
Jerry shifted his gaze to Neville, who was still struggling to remember how many cards he had collected, and offered a friendly warning.
"Why?"
Neville looked puzzled.
"Because eating too much chocolate can make you gain weight, and you might never complete your collection!"
Jerry glanced at Neville's round figure.
Being too heavy might make it hard to find a girlfriend!
"By the way, have you decided which house you want to be in?"
Seeing Dumbledore's card, Hermione seemed to have an idea and suddenly became excited.
However, before Jerry and Neville could respond, she started babbling like a machine gun:
"I hope I'm sorted into Gryffindor; they say it's the best. I heard Dumbledore himself graduated from there, but I think Ravenclaw isn't too bad either..."
Well, it turns out she was actually asking a rhetorical question.
After Hermione’s lengthy explanation, Neville finally mustered the courage to raise his hand.
“I hope to be in Gryffindor because my grandmother says that both my parents were in Gryffindor!”
“Jerry, what about you? Which house do you hope to be in?”
Hearing Neville’s answer, Hermione immediately nodded in agreement and then turned her gaze towards Jerry.
Jerry hesitated for a moment before responding with a smile.
“It has to be Gryffindor!”
After much deliberation, Jerry had gradually made up his mind about the Sorting.
Initially, he had thought it would be best to be in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, where he could quietly study magic and improve himself without any danger.
However, upon further reflection, he realized he was so short on Little Red Stars, and since he could earn them in the Mini World, joining the reckless and bold Gryffindor house might not be a bad idea.
Moreover, Professor Mcgonagall, the head of Gryffindor, though strict, was also a very nice person. She had a good impression of him from their previous encounter.
As long as he utilized the “Brain Booster” function effectively, his academic performance would naturally be excellent. This could even earn him special treatment from Professor Mcgonagall, just like how she arranged for Hermione to have a Time-Turner in her third year to assist her studies.
Most importantly, he wanted to obtain a good flying broom before his next return. Without a suitable mode of transportation, his efficiency in earning Little Red Stars in the Marvel world was abysmally low.
By joining Gryffindor, he could follow the original plot and intercept the Memory Orb before Harry, showcasing his impressive skills in front of Professor Mcgonagall.
This way, she would likely make an exception and allow him to join the Gryffindor Quidditch team, even gifting him a Nimbus 2000 out of her own pocket.
Thus, he would get the fastest flying broom on the market for free!
As for his flying skills, there was no need to worry about that.
What does Quidditch really test?
Is it the level of magic within one’s body?
Is it the ability to use magic?
Of course not, otherwise, a first-year student who knew no magic like Harry wouldn’t have been given special consideration.
What Quidditch truly tests is bodily coordination and physical reflexes.
Therefore, physical fitness and sharp senses are the most crucial.
Similarly, a skilled combat wizard needs not just a good grasp of magic but also a certain level of physical fitness, reflexes, and other talents.
For example, in terms of learning ability and understanding of magic, Hermione far outshines Harry.
However, in combat, Harry’s practical skills are much stronger than Hermione’s.
This is why Harry was allowed to join the Quidditch team right from the start, while Hermione struggled with her flying lessons.
Physical fitness and sharp senses are Jerry’s strong points!
As long as he can control the flying broom and activate his superhuman state, his senses and body will instantly reach their limits. He’s confident he can outperform not just the naturally gifted Harry but even the top Quidditch players.
