Chapter 269: Owl and Black Dog
Chapter 269: Owl and Black Dog
Next to the newspaper headline was a large, moving photograph of a man with a haggard face, long, messy hair.
The article behind it detailed the life and crimes of Sirius Black, with the editor specifically warning that Sirius was an extremely dangerous individual who had once used a spell to blow up half a street, resulting in the deaths of over a dozen Muggles.
After reading this, Ivan put down the book in his hand and turned his gaze to the Polyjuice Potion that had just finished brewing on the table.
"It's time, just in time!" Ivan stood up, muttering to himself.
"Sir, are you planning to rest now?" Dobby, noticing Ivan's actions, said with great delight.
"No, now is not the time to rest." Ivan walked to the table, filled a vial with the Polyjuice Potion, and took out a few strands of the attacker's hair, putting them in his pocket. After a moment's thought, he also added Aisha's hair.
Dobby's happy expression froze and then turned to one of disappointment, but he still eagerly waited for Ivan's next command.
A few days later, in the sky above a street near Privet Drive,
a grayish-white Owl, carrying a letter in its beak, flapped its wings and stared down at the wide street below. It then slowly descended and landed in a dense thicket.
This letter-carrying Owl was, of course, Ivan's Animagus form. Over these two days, he had spent a lot of time tracking Sirius Black's movements.
What Ivan had not expected was that Sirius was even better at hiding than he had imagined.
He had only once spotted Sirius in a narrow alley, transformed into a Black Dog.
But Sirius was very cautious and did not stay there for long, slipping into the underbrush and disappearing.
Ivan had no choice but to wait for Sirius near Privet Drive,
because in the original timeline, Sirius would come to visit Harry after he was kicked out of the house.
After all, it was around Harry's birthday, a special day, and Sirius would naturally want to see his godson.
Ivan did not believe that his presence would change this outcome.
As the sky grew darker, Ivan kept a constant watch on the Dursleys' house.
Not long after, Ivan heard a scream and a stream of curses coming from the front.
Ivan, carrying the letter, moved closer.
Through the window, he clearly saw a large, inflated middle-aged woman floating on the ceiling, like a giant human-shaped balloon.
She was screaming in terror, while the Dursleys below were frantically trying to pull the floating Aunt Marge down.
A few minutes later, Harry, carrying his trunk, stormed out of the house, angrily dragging it down the street.
Ivan flapped his wings and approached, pretending to be a mail Owl.
He was unsure if Sirius was watching from the shadows and might notice this Owl that had been lingering for a long time, so it was better to be cautious.
Harry dragged his trunk aimlessly through several streets, then collapsed, exhausted, against a low wall on Magnolia Crescent.
Thinking about the abuse he had endured at home, Harry's anger surged.
He had endured so much just to be able to go to Hogsmeade with the other young wizards this school year!
Even when Uncle Vernon deliberately said that he was attending a school for juvenile delinquents, where he was whipped and punished every day, he did not refute it at all.
But the one thing he could not tolerate was Aunt Marge's insults and slander towards his parents. So, even at the risk of being expelled from Hogwarts and having his Wand snapped, he had to teach her a lesson!
Intense anger burned in Harry's heart, but it was quickly doused by the cold night wind, turning into worry about the future.
He knew he had seriously violated the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery, and he had nowhere to go now.
The only consolation was that the Ministry of Magic had not yet sent anyone to arrest him.
Perhaps the people at the Ministry of Magic had forgotten about it. They were so busy that they probably had countless things to deal with every day.
Just as Harry was harboring a glimmer of hope, he saw a grayish-white Owl flying towards him, carrying a letter in its beak.
A letter from the Ministry of Magic?!
Harry's heart raced, and his hands and feet turned cold. He had long expected this moment, but when it actually happened, he still felt very anxious.
"Co-co-co", the grayish-white Owl landed on his shoulder.
Harry's hands were trembling as he struggled to tear open the envelope.
He thought he might see a stern letter informing him that he would be expelled from Hogwarts or that his Wand would be snapped and he would be sent to Azkaban.
Surely, things couldn't get any worse than that, right?
Harry felt he was prepared for anything. He brought the letter to his eyes, and it was written in pale gold ink:
"Happy 13th Birthday, Harry-Potter!"
The signature below was from Ivan-Hals.
Harry stared at it, feeling a sudden wave of emotion. The worry and fear he felt after being kicked out of his home eased a bit.
Even though he was at a dead end and might be expelled from school, Harry felt that he still had friends who cared about him!
He had not received a birthday card from Ivan in the morning, and he had thought that Ivan might have forgotten. But now, he had sent it at this moment.
Harry felt a bit more hopeful. He looked at the Owl perched on his shoulder, which had not left. He found it strange because he remembered that Ivan's Owl didn't look like this. Where was Macka?
The grayish-white Owl paid no attention to Harry. Its eyes were fixed on a dark spot ahead. The letter was just a cover for Ivan to appear like a real mail-carrying Owl.
Its real target was Sirius Black!
Harry followed the Owl's gaze curiously. The area was pitch black, but two eyes were clearly visible, reflecting the streetlight and blinking.
Harry was startled and fell to the ground, his luggage landing on his foot, but he didn't even notice.
"Lumos!" Harry waved his Wand, casting the Lumos spell. He no longer cared about the rule against casting spells outside of school; he had already broken it once.
The light dispelled the darkness, and Harry saw a large, Black Dog in front of him. It looked very thin, and its eyes were fixed on him.
Finally, you've come. Ivan in his Animagus form was also staring at the Black Dog, but he didn't move immediately, as Harry was still there.
