Chapter 268: Rain
Chapter 268: Rain
Watching Aquariana run away without a hint of sadness, Qiao Sang fell into deep confusion.
Another failure?
What went wrong this time?
After thinking for a long while, Qiao Sang suddenly realized that the problem wasn't how to make Aquariana suffer a Heartbreak, but rather how to achieve a Heartbreak at all...
...
Time ticked by, one second after another.
Soon, night fell.
Evening came, and Aquariana still hadn't experienced a Heartbreak.
Qiao Sang, holding a pair of scissors, spoke with a heavy heart to Fangy, "I've thought it through. The reason Aquariana likes you is that you're too handsome. If we change your appearance a bit, Aquariana will definitely Heartbreak."
"Seek..." Treasure Seeker nodded in agreement beside them.
"Ya Ya!"
Fangy, tears welling up in its eyes, shook its head vigorously.
"Don't be afraid, your fur will grow back quickly", Qiao Sang said softly, slowly approaching with the scissors.
"Ya Ya!"
Fangy took a step back, then another, until it was cornered against the wall. Seeing the scissors about to touch it, Fangy's eyes filled with tears and its expression turned desperate.
What does Heartbreak have to do with fur?
Shaving its fur won't make it any less handsome, will it?!
...
Meanwhile.
In the courtyard.
Aquariana was seriously trying to condense the Water Mist.
But soon, the Water Mist dissipated.
"Lulu..." Aquariana's face fell in disappointment.
"What are you practicing?" Yang Du approached with a smile, "Maybe I can help."
Those who accept missions usually follow an unwritten rule: during the mission, they won't interfere with the mission-giver's personal life unless it pertains to the mission itself.
So, Yang Du had mostly stayed in his room since returning.
But today, the mission-giver had said it might be the last day of the mission, and Yang Du couldn't stay put anymore.
Aquariana, seeing the human, flicked its tail, transforming its disappointed expression into one of pride, and turned to leave.
"I guess you're trying to condense the energy of Water Mist", Yang Du said.
As a B-Class Beastmaster, he had the necessary discernment.
"Lulu."
Aquariana stopped and turned back, its face wary.
Yang Du smiled, "You don't need to be so defensive. I just want to help. I might be leaving after today."
"Zezhe." Deep Sea Marshbeast nodded, confirming that its Beastmaster was a good person.
"If you don't trust me, I can have Soy help you", Yang Du pointed to Deep Sea Marshbeast, "It knows Water Mist and is quite knowledgeable about Water-Type Skills."
"Zezhe." Deep Sea Marshbeast nodded again.
"Lulu?"
Aquariana's deep eyes looked at Deep Sea Marshbeast.
Can it invoke rain?
"Zezhe." Deep Sea Marshbeast nodded.
Yang Du, though he didn't understand Aquariana's words, understood his familiar's response. He smiled confidently, "Rain Invocation, it mastered that nine years ago."
"Lulu..."
Nine years ago?!
Aquariana's eyes widened in shock. The time it took to learn Rain Invocation was longer than its own age!
Yang Du seemed to think of something and suddenly said, "Today is almost over. I wonder when your Beastmaster will make it rain."
"Lulu?"
Aquariana looked at the human with confusion.
Seeing the obvious question in Aquariana's eyes, Deep Sea Marshbeast didn't need to translate for Yang Du to understand. He explained:
"I took the mission to invoke rain. They said they wanted it to rain whenever they needed, but it hasn’t rained even once since I got here. Today, your Beastmaster said it was the last day, but it’s already dark and there’s still no rain. I have no idea what’s going on."
As he spoke, he recalled the events of the day and continued, "Your Beastmaster seemed a bit off today, and so did Flame Listener and Treasure Hunter Demon."
Yang Du noticed the conversation was veering off course and smiled. "Let’s not talk about that. If you want to learn Rain Invocation, you can ask Soy to teach you. Once you learn it, your Beastmaster won’t have to post a mission every time they want it to rain."
"Lulu..."
Aquariana looked puzzled.
Why would they want it to rain all the time?
Aquariana wasn’t dull; in fact, it was quite sensitive to certain things, able to detect even the slightest changes.
This was the main reason it had managed to escape from the Ancient Fog Region and reach the Yuhua Region without being captured.
Rain whenever they wanted...
Rain...
Rain...
Rain!
Suddenly, a long-forgotten memory surged back, and Aquariana’s eyes widened in shock.
"The most effective way for you to grow stronger is through Evolution. I’ve done some research, and if you want to Evolve, you need to experience Heartbreak during a rainy day. The emotional surge will trigger your Evolution."
"That’s why I showed you those videos to see which type of familiar you like."
"Is this one okay?"
"What about this one?"
"Teeth?"
The memory cut off abruptly as Fangy’s face loomed close.
Aquariana’s body trembled.
Fangy! It was an actor! From the beginning, it had been a ruse to manipulate emotions! Everything was fake!
"Lulu!!!"
With a heart-wrenching cry, a white light enveloped Aquariana’s entire body.
Yang Du stood there, mouth agape, completely stunned. "Damn! What’s going on?!"
Evolution Light?
Just talking about it triggered Evolution?!
Is that even logical?! Scientific?!
"Qiao Sang! Qiao Sang!" Yang Du snapped out of his daze and ran inside, shouting loudly.
"What’s wrong?" Qiao Sang stopped what she was doing and opened the door, asking.
"Fangy" Fangy sighed in relief.
"Aquariana is Evolving! Come quick!" Yang Du exclaimed excitedly.
"Evolving?!" Qiao Sang’s expression froze, then her eyes widened as she sprinted toward the Courtyard.
As she ran, she shouted, "Rain! Make it rain! Right now!"
"Okay! Okay!" Yang Du, though confused, knew his mission was to make it rain.
He didn’t run to the Courtyard but instead used his mind to enter the Beastmaster Codex.
"Ze..."
Deep Sea Marshbeast, who had been in the Courtyard, sensed something and lifted its head, calling out.
Dark clouds immediately gathered in the sky, and raindrops began to pour down in a frenzy, making a 'pitter-patter' sound as they hit the ground.
Qiao Sang reached the Courtyard and saw a heavy downpour and the slowly dissipating white light.
It really Evolved... Qiao Sang felt a profound sense of unreality as she looked at Aquariana, who was still enveloped in the white light.
She couldn’t understand it. They had experimented all day, trying every method, but nothing had triggered Aquariana’s Evolution.
Yet, just now, while they were doing nothing in the room, Aquariana Evolved. Why?
Qiao Sang didn’t dwell on this question for long because the white light was dissipating...
