Chapter 268: Mira vs. Erza
Chapter 268: Mira vs. Erza
Gray placed his right fist on his left palm, closed his eyes, and gathered his magic power. Then, he opened his eyes and placed both hands on the water surface:
"Ice Make: Lake Stage!"
A blue magic circle appeared, and Gray's magic power surged. An icy path quickly extended forward from his hands.
When it reached the center of the lake, the ice path suddenly expanded outward and rose upward, forming a massive ice crystal stage.
The center of the stage was deliberately made with a frosted appearance, and the edges were adorned with intricate railings.
"Phew..." Gray let out a long breath and sat down on the shore. Creating such a large-scale structure was not easy for him.
"It's done. The center of the stage is frozen all the way to the lake bottom. It should hold up unless someone deliberately tries to destroy it," Gray said.
Mira praised him, "Impressive, you did it so quickly."
Erza hugged Gray, "Thank you for your hard work."
Ding!
Laxus chuckled and placed a Crown of Insight on the dizzy Gray, then handed him his clothes, which he had casually thrown aside before casting the spell.
"Thanks." After all, it was Laxus's suggestion, and Gray felt a bit embarrassed about being so exhausted.
Gray, still a bit dazed, waved his hand, "No need to thank me. I'm looking forward to it anyway."
After many days, Mira and Erza were about to face off.
Since both of them were taking it seriously, fighting in the guild courtyard was out of the question.
However, many people wanted to watch the battle, and going too far would be inconvenient. So, Laxus suggested creating a platform on the lake.
Gray's display of skill amazed many people.
The design was exquisite, the scale was grand, and the speed was impressive. In terms of Ice Make magic, Gray was already the strongest anyone had ever seen.
Makao was surprised, "When did Gray get so strong?"
Wakaba sighed, "That's young people for you. They progress at an incredible rate."
"Gray, be a man! Sister, go for it!" Elfman had just returned and, though he didn't know what was happening, he cheered anyway.
Natsu looked envious, "Damn, I want to fight Erza too!"
Happy was not optimistic, "But Natsu, didn't Mira just take you down in a second?"
"I'm stronger than last time!" Natsu shouted.
"Love." Happy replied half-heartedly.
Kana set up two baskets and called out, "Place your bets! Put your money here if you bet on Erza, and here if you bet on Mira!"
"I bet on Erza!"
"It has to be Mira!"
A crowd of people placed their bets, and the atmosphere quickly heated up.
"You two..." Makarov wanted to remind them to be careful, but it would be a real downer to say that at a time like this.
And Laxus had thoughtfully considered the battle arena...
In the end, Makarov only said, "Then let's begin! Both of you, do your best!"
The two women walked along the long ice path to the stage and stood a distance apart.
The crowd complained about the distance, making it hard to see clearly, and demanded that Gray and Levy create some seats for the audience.
Levy was a bit hesitant; her magic power couldn't match Gray's, so she only managed to create a few small boats.
Gray had initially thought his magic power was severely depleted, but then he realized it wasn't as bad as he thought.
He looked at the blue glow around him and was surprised, "This feeling... Laxus, this magic..."
"Hmm? The Crown of Insight? Oh, you haven't experienced it yet. How does it feel?"
"It's like cheating," Gray remarked, and quickly created a viewing platform closer to the stage.
Laxus had initially wanted to sit in one of the small boats, but seeing the impatient Natsu miserably vomiting on the boat, he summoned a Swift Crab instead.
The two women on the stage had already said what they needed to say and, without waiting for the audience to be fully seated, they began their battle.
Erza, unsure of Mira's current condition, started with her Heaven's Wheel Armor, sending a dozen swords flying.
Mira decisively activated Satan Soul and used her incredible speed to dodge the flying swords, then charged toward Erza.
The two exchanged a few close-range blows, with Mira kicking Erza in the back.
Laxus winced, wondering if Mira would have to pay for the broken armor from this sparring match.
"Requip: Flying Armor!"
Erza switched to her speed-focused armor and quickly engaged Mira in over a dozen exchanges.
Their movements were so fast that the audience struggled to keep up, until the two long swords in Erza's hands shattered.
The ice surface was now marked with numerous cutting traces and small pits from their footwork.
Laxus watched Mira's hands closely, noticing that she didn't seem to be injured.
"Is it a lack of strength? In that case... Requip: Hell Armor!"
Donning the black Hell Armor, Erza unleashed a terrifying amount of magic power, and her heavy serrated greatsword left deep craters in the ice.
"Indeed, the Hell Armor is the way to go." Mira's tongue slowly licked her lips, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
It wasn't clear whether this was due to her innate love for combat or the joy of finally facing Erza again.
Bang!
Mira's fist, enveloped in a purple-black light sphere, collided with Erza's serrated greatsword, producing a thunderous explosion.
The ice beneath their feet cracked loudly, with the fissures extending all the way to the edge of the stage.
Their white and red hair was blown backward by the wind, and the spectators could feel the powerful gusts from the center of the battle.
"Unbelievable..." Gray was surprised, having reinforced the stage himself, "They really are something, aren't they?"
The two continued to exchange blows and clash, moving from the center of the stage to its edges and back again.
The ice crystal stage was riddled with more and more cracks, and the intricate railings at the edges had long since vanished.
Finally, they each stepped back, with Mira deactivating her magic and panting heavily.
Erza also returned to her regular attire, looking somewhat better off than Mira.
Laxus wished he could give Mira a buff, but unfortunately, his opponent was one of their own.
"Almost... pant... only enough magic for one last attack."
Erza nodded: "Then let's decide it with this move."
They reached a mutual understanding, and Mira transformed. Her white hair became fluffy, and horns sprouted from her head. She wore a blue and white outfit with a black cloak.
Flames burned around her feet, as if she had emerged from the fires of hell.
The ice beneath her began to melt and evaporate, and the oppressive aura around her intensified.
This was Mira's strongest form, Demon Soul Shet, which Laxus had only seen in its complete form once.
And even then, Mira had only shown him this form, never daring to use it against him.
Erza also completed her Requip, donning a pink armor with pink wings on her shoulders and a light purple cloak.
"Requip: Fairy Armor!"
This was Erza's strongest current armor, named 'Fairy,' and wearing it meant she carried the guild's reputation, so she absolutely couldn't lose.
They locked eyes for a moment, then moved their feet, charging at each other simultaneously.
Mira was surrounded by flames, while green lightning crackled around Erza.
With a thunderous boom, the ice crystal stage exploded, sending ice fragments flying in all directions and causing large waves to surge toward the audience and the small boats on the lake.
"Hey, hey, hey... this is way too much!"
"Those two went way overboard!"
"Don't just stand there, defend quickly!"
Fortunately, the spectators were all mages, and with the guild master among them, no one was injured by the aftereffects of the battle.
The worst that happened was that some people got their clothes wet from the lake water.
Laxus, seeing the ice shatter, quickly summoned a Swift Crab and jumped into the water, carrying the exhausted Mira out.
"Phew, that was close."
