Chapter 267: Seasoning with a Kick
Chapter 267: Seasoning with a Kick
Unbelievable! Fred, George, and Lee Jordan had been feeling particularly unlucky lately. Ever since the Christmas holidays ended, a string of bad luck had befallen them.
There was an endless amount of holiday homework, and to make matters worse, they had been confined to the school by Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape for failing to complete it on time, causing them to miss their dinner.
Fred and George's situation was even more dire as they had missed several Quidditch practices due to their detention. Charlie had flown into a rage and wrote home about it, prompting Mrs. Weasley to send a sternly worded letter warning them that she would cut their meager allowance if it happened again.
Of course, Fred and George's allowance was already pitifully small.
"Look what I found!"
As soon as they entered their dormitory, Fred was drawn in by a mouthwatering aroma. His eyes locked onto the steaming egg and potato pancakes on the table, and he couldn't help but swallow hard. He handed the meat pie he had been biting into to George and rushed to the table with supernatural speed.
Well! All three of them moved swiftly and surrounded the food on the table.
"Where's Albert?" Lee Jordan asked in a low voice.
"He's probably... taking a shower?" Fred replied uncertainly.
"Did he make this especially for us as a midnight snack?" George took a bite of his meat pie and compared it to the steaming egg and potato pancake on the table, then promptly tossed his pie aside.
"Must be."
The three boys exchanged glances, each understanding the unspoken message in the others' eyes: finish it off before Albert returns! The hot egg and potato pancakes were far more appealing than the meat pies, and the delicious aroma only made them hungrier.
So, the trio quickly devoured the food.
And then...
When Albert returned from his shower, he couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Fred, George, and Lee Jordan with their lips swollen like sausages.
"What happened to you guys!" Albert feigned surprise and asked, his face twitching as he struggled to hold back his laughter.
"We ate the food on the table..." Fred's tone was mournful, and his swollen lips made his words sound muffled.
"And then, this happened!" George pointed to his lips, feeling like his whole world had turned gloomy.
"I must be dreaming. Yeah, I'm definitely dreaming." Lee Jordan looked sad. Lately, he had indeed been rather unlucky.
"You're not dreaming. Cough, let's go see Madam Pomfrey. She'll definitely be able to fix your lips." Albert struggled to suppress his laughter and lightly coughed, leading the trio to the school hospital.
Fortunately, it was already nightfall, or they would have attracted quite a bit of attention.
Madam Pomfrey was clearly not pleased to be disturbed during her rest time, but seeing the boys' swollen lips, she reluctantly provided them with a potion... Well, in less than thirty seconds, she had cured their sausage-like lips and sent them on their way.
Of course, she had used a Swelling Solution.
"Did you put something strange in those egg and potato pancakes?"
As soon as they returned to their dormitory, Fred, George, and Lee began interrogating Albert.
No matter how they looked at it, this guy seemed to be playing a prank on them. After all, Albert had prepared the food, so he was the most suspicious.
"Cough, that was a midnight snack I brought from the kitchen to share with you guys. If you hadn't eaten it all without me, you wouldn't be in this situation." Albert rolled his eyes at the three boys, clearly enjoying their misfortune. "Luckily, you ate it first, or I would've been in the same boat."
At that moment, the three boys' faces turned red, but they quickly recovered.
Wait a minute!
Albert must have anticipated that they would sneak a bite, and then...
Yep, that's something he would do.
Damn, we fell for Albert's trick!
But those egg and potato pancakes were too little; we're still hungry! "Come on, tell us how you did it," George said, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"How could you not tell us about something so fun!" Fred also wanted to know how Albert had pulled off this mysterious prank. Surely he had added something to the food?
No, that can't be right! They hadn't noticed anything strange when they were eating the pancakes. But all three were certain that Albert was behind this.
"Cough, fine. I just added some seasoning to it, and I didn't expect it to have such an effect." Albert took out a small bottle of seasoning from his pocket and placed it in front of the trio.
"What is this?" Lee Jordan asked eagerly.
"It's a special seasoning," Albert replied. This was actually an experiment he had thought of during one of Snape's Potions classes.
Since Love Potions could be added to chocolate, he saw no reason why Swelling Solution couldn't be added to food as well. During the Potions class, he had made an improved version of the Swelling Solution, and after class, he diluted the remaining potion and mixed it with some seasoning, creating what he now held in his hand.
Of course, the amount of Swelling Solution he had added was very small; otherwise, Fred would have noticed his lips swelling while he was still eating.
"But that seasoning is quite good." Fred recalled the taste of the egg and potato pancakes he had just eaten and suddenly thought of something very interesting.
"You know..."
"No way, if you're planning something crazy, don't drag me into it," Albert interrupted Fred before he could finish.
"I haven't even said anything yet," Fred complained.
"If everyone in the school ends up like this, do you think you can avoid it?" Albert shot Fred an annoyed glance.
"So, you added the Swelling Solution to the seasoning, right!" George had figured out what had happened and couldn't help but admire Albert's cunning.
"The effects of the Swelling Solution are much stronger than this," Lee Jordan pointed out.
"This is a diluted version, so the effects are much weaker," Albert admitted.
"When did you make this?" George was growing more curious.
"While you two were in detention," Albert huffed. "Don't think I don't know it was you who spread those rumors."
"It was Fred's fault," George quickly threw his twin brother under the bus.
"I swear on my pocketful of Galleons that I had nothing to do with it," Fred immediately swore to prove his innocence.
"Don't be silly, your pockets are empty."
"It was Lee Jordan who said it."
"Hey, don't drag me into this. I didn't say anything!" Lee Jordan protested.
The three boys started bickering and pointing fingers at each other.
Albert glared at them and put away the bottle of seasoning, intending to store it in his cabinet. He knew exactly what these three rascals were planning.
"No, lend it to me!" Fred wailed, as he had intended to use it to play a prank on a few despicable people he knew.
"Make your own," Albert said dismissively. "The Swelling Solution isn't that hard to make."
"We plan to give it to Peeves!" Fred blurted out. "He'll definitely enjoy seeing others in trouble."
"Be careful not to get yourself into trouble as well." Albert gave a soft humph and tossed the method to create the seasoning to Fred, leaving them to figure out how to improve it.
