Chapter 267: Hero and Coward
Chapter 267: Hero and Coward
Ivan looked at the group photo, and it seemed that Headmaster Bohan didn’t hate him as much as Dugard had said.
As he thought, Ivan sat down on a chair in the living room, quietly waiting for Headmaster Bohan to return, with Dobby quietly standing by his side.
Ivan didn’t know where Headmaster Bohan’s residence was, so this was the only place they could meet.
He waited from dusk until nightfall.
No one entered the Headmaster’s Office during that time. Just as Ivan’s patience was about to run out, the sound of a doorknob turning finally came from the entrance.
Click.
The door to the Headmaster’s Office slowly opened, and Bohan entered, holding several medical reports, looking exhausted.
Closing the door, Headmaster Bohan took a few steps forward before suddenly stopping.
There was an additional figure sitting on the living room chair, and he remembered that he hadn’t invited anyone over today. Normal guests wouldn’t leave the lights off either.
Headmaster Bohan vaguely sensed something was amiss and reached for his Wand.
"I advise you to put down your Wand."
A sharp, peculiar voice came from behind. Headmaster Bohan turned around to see a House-Elf blocking the door, its left hand fingers glowing with magical light.
Headmaster Bohan wisely released his grip on the Wand. Dobby nodded, pointed to the living room, and gestured invitingly.
"Please go over there, Mr. Headmaster!"
Headmaster Bohan calmly walked towards the living room.
Meanwhile, Dobby turned on the magical lights in the Headmaster’s Office.
The dim living room instantly became bright, and Bohan finally saw the young Wizard sitting on the chair, whom he had met last year.
"Long time no see, Headmaster Bohan!" Ivan spoke up, using his eyes to signal Dobby to relax and not act rashly.
He was here to ask questions, not to confront the Headmaster.
Besides, Headmaster Bohan had helped him last year, and Ivan didn’t want to make things too difficult between them.
"Hals?" Headmaster Bohan looked deeply at Ivan. "I didn’t expect we would meet again in such a manner."
"This time, you’ve come to see me for something, right?"
Headmaster Bohan walked to the opposite side of Ivan, as if entertaining a regular guest, and poured him a cup of tea.
"I have some questions for you, about Dugard. Do you know where he is?" Ivan had no interest in sipping tea and making small talk; he got straight to the point.
As he spoke, Ivan’s eyes locked onto the elderly man in front of him, hoping to catch any hint of dishonesty on his face.
When Ivan mentioned Dugard, Headmaster Bohan frowned, seeming even more weary. After a long pause, he sighed.
"Dugard? Then you’ve come to the wrong person. I expelled him from the Bohan family over a decade ago. He and I have no connection anymore."
Ivan didn’t respond, instead taking out the photo of the group and placing it on the table.
"You should know that when people get old, they tend to reminisce about the past. Since you’ve interacted with Dugard, you should know that we didn’t get along. I have no idea where he is", Headmaster Bohan said, his expression unchanged.
Ivan fell silent for a moment. The other man’s demeanor was very calm, and Ivan decided to abandon the hope of finding Dugard’s whereabouts from Bohan. However, he still asked,
"What about the Dark Mark on his arm? You don’t know about that either?"
Ivan couldn’t understand Dugard’s drastic change over the years. It was impossible for someone to fake it for so long.
In his memories, Ivan clearly saw Dugard’s concern and affection for Aisha, which contradicted his cold demeanor on that day.
Headmaster Bohan looked at Ivan with surprise, pausing for a moment before continuing.
"I am well aware of that, which is why I disowned him from the Bohan family!"
"So Dugard really was a Death Eater who followed Voldemort?" Ivan's face was as dark as a stormy sky.
"Yes, that's right!" Headmaster Bohan sighed.
From Ivan's expression, he guessed something might have happened. After much hesitation, Headmaster Bohan slowly spoke.
"I can tell you about Dugard, if it helps you."
Ivan hesitated but nodded.
A hint of nostalgia appeared on Headmaster Bohan's face as he began to recount events from over a decade ago, during the height of the Wizarding war, when the magical world was in chaos.
Almost every day, a large number of injured Aurors and ordinary Wizards who had suffered from Dark Magic attacks came here for treatment.
As a medical institution, St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries naturally had to provide them with aid.
The only ones who were unwelcome were the Death Eaters. Bohan had always despised these fanatics who preached Pure-blood Supremacy and acted recklessly, so he was unwilling to provide any form of treatment to Voldemort's minions.
Moreover, he had always been on good terms with Dumbledore, so the entire St. Mungo's Hospital aligned with the resistance.
"Did Voldemort just let you treat those who opposed him?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
"Of course not! At the height of the Dark Lord's power, the Death Eaters organized several attacks. Despite the difficulties, we suffered heavy casualties, but we managed to hold them off."
Headmaster Bohan shook his head and continued. "The Dark Lord himself was preoccupied with other matters and couldn't spare the time."
"What about Dugard?" Ivan grew impatient; he didn't want to hear about the battles between the Death Eaters and St. Mungo's Hospital.
"He was captured during our seventh battle with the Death Eaters", Headmaster Bohan answered Ivan's question.
"So Dugard surrendered and became a Death Eater?" Ivan thought, that was the only possible explanation.
"Exactly, I thought he would be braver, but it turns out he was a coward!" Headmaster Bohan's face rarely showed anger.
When he first received the news, Bohan had even prepared to bury Dugard.
Although Dugard was his only son, Bohan had always believed that Dugard would resist the Death Eaters' threats and persecution to the end, even at the cost of his life!
Just like those who died heroically at the hands of the Death Eaters!
Unfortunately, the result was disappointing. Two days later, Dugard reappeared before him.
Dugard brought some Death Eaters and turned some of the less committed medical staff. They worked together to seize control of the entire St. Mungo's Hospital!
"The Dark Lord promised him fame and power, and Dugard directly replaced me as Headmaster, imprisoning all those who defied him, preparing to hand them over to the Dark Lord.
He wanted to turn this place into a service center for the Death Eaters, which was probably what Voldemort desired", Headmaster Bohan's tone was sharp, as if he were speaking about a hated enemy rather than his own child.
When everyone was resisting with all their might, his son Dugard was the first to surrender. This was a disgrace!
How could he face those who defended the hospital, fought bravely, and died with honor?
"And then?" Ivan had never imagined that Dugard became a Death Eater in such a way, and the most despicable traitor!
"And then, on that very night, his greatest support, the Dark Lord, fell!" Headmaster Bohan said.
